Idea for Scripting Competition

Would it be a nice idea to issue a new scripting competition for any other game but Runescape?

Are you thinking about something like a SCAR widget, or a script for another online game?

Why not Runescape? It's been a while since we actually had an RS competition, competition #2 to be exact (you can't really call an autoresponder competition a real Runescape script, can you?).
Don't have ideas for a non-rs script atm :( Maybe just freestyle, and coolest script wins?

Scripting for only runescape does get boring…

For those who actually do, yes. But I just can't seem to think of any ideas. A game? Already did that one. What then? Encryption algorithms? Forms? Demo's (that would actually be freakin cool imo)?

I think other games would be a bit boring because in order to actually make a script for a game, it would need to be a fairly simple game (think of starting from scratch and trying to make a good RS script). Scripting for a simple game would be, IMO, pretty boring (of course, so is RS scripting for me).

I a non-game-related competition would be good. It really shows someone's skill more than an RS/other game script.

I think RuneScape competitions are the best for now, since it (stimulates) [Junior] Members and such to write scripts, which is always nice to add to SRL's Scripts Base.

If we did that, to be fair it would have to be the same game for everyone, and finding a game that enough people are familiar would be tough. Plus the judge(s) would have to be experts at scripting for that game. RS fits the bill.

Something we can make money off of :p

Maybe we could do some sort of utility. Like various calculators, or graphics engines (2d or 3d); useful stuff.

Possibly moving onto games on funorb would be familiar enough for a majority of scripters, since I'm sure also a lot of a normal players would have at least checked it out once or twice. If not familiar, then there's still a wide selection of fairly straight forward games that could be learnt quickly and wouldn't be challenging to do on a basic level, but very for high scores.
Just my two pennies.

Funorb games are crap though. And the ones that are kind of epic, as in it would be fun to get pretty far in. Arent really scriptable.

I stand by my childish stand of neopets ft(epic)w

I like the Neopets idea :)

Not as a scripting competition, albeit. I can't see it ever happening… I'm just saying that I'd enjoy seeing an SRL member writing a script that macros a Neopets game.
