Howdy!
I recently opened SCAR (as I do every day), and I have found that for the past few days, the news has not seemed to load. I do not know if this is a bug or just a problem with my system, but I also found out that for some reason, my Internet Explorer does not seem to load. I can only open web pages via FireFox, and I also can't view web pages when I am using Ubuntu (I use FireFox with Linux).
I think that it might be a problem with my system, because a few days ago, I also had a RuneScape related problem and also Internet Explorer 8 was not working (it turns out because I had installed IE8, and I hadn't restarted the computer yet, it wouldn't load the RS Client).
Here is the posts to the recent problem (if it helps):
I decided to post the posts rather than the link for personal reasons…
Anywho, I do not think that it's the same problem again, because the Client loads, but I do think that it might be because of the Vista Theme, I am not sure.
In a possible related note, another online game I play (Guild Wars), also does not seem to want to load for some reason, it just stays at the "Connecting to ArenaNet" Screen.
I have no idea what is wrong.
Please Help.
If you would like me to post any other information, please just ask.
Cheers!

P.S.:
–WTF?!?!?! That makes no sense. Lol.
SCAR does NOT load the News when SCAR is opened or when you click on the "Read SCAR News".

Howdy All!
I have been using the Official RuneScape Client (accessible via the RuneScape Downloads Page via the Main Web-Page) ever since I started playing RuneScape (about 3-4 years ago). So far, I have NEVER had any problems with it what-so-ever, however, now is a new day, and I have finally had a problem with the Client.
When I went to open up the Client as usual, it would not load the RuneScape Web-Page up for me at all. It stayed blank for ages. I decided I would wait and see if it would load it after a while, so I went and did some things while I was waiting for it to load. I came back later, and the black screen had turned white, and still, nothing was happening.
I believe the the RuneScape Client is just Internet Explorer modified to suit the needs of the RuneScape Gamer, thus I tried opening Internet Explorer. When I tried to load it, it came up with an error saying:
"Error loading C:\Windows\system32\inetcpl.cpl
The operating system cannot run %1."
This error has never come up before for me, so I assumed that it might have been because I recently tried to install the latest version of Internet Explorer, Windows Internet Explorer 8 RC1.
I believe that the error may have been because I tried to install IE8RC1 (Windows Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1), but the %1 has reminded me of a registry change that I made a few days ago (the Registry Change was to do with making a "Command Prompt Here" Option via the Right-Click Menu YouTube Video). I do not think that the Registry change had something to do with it, but it is possible.
I have just tried re-installing IE8RC1 and so I hope that helps (I have to restart My Computer for the changes to take effect), but I don't think that it will.
Another possible thought that I think could have had an effect on it, was that yesterday I installed a new Windows Vista Theme for Windows XP (I am currently using Windows XP).
Maybe the RuneScape Client needs updating also?
Please Help Me.
Thank You.
Cheers!
Hello.
Sorry for double posting, I just used up all 2000 characters available in my last post.
Anyway, this is my current information about my computer:
• PC or Mac?
-
PC.
• Processor?
-
Intel Celeron CPU 3.06GHz.
• System RAM?
-
512MB.
• Graphics card (make and model)?
-
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
• Operating system (eg. Vista, XP, Linux, Leopard)?
-
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Dual-Booting Ubuntu Linux (I play RuneScape on XP).
• Internet browser (Firefox, IE7, Safari)?
-
FireFox/IE7/8 (I use the Official RuneScape Client to play RuneScape though, but if that fails, I use FireFox).
• Java version?
-
Version 6 Update 11 (build 1.6.0_11-b03).

About 1-2 Days Ago.
As for my RuneScape Client needs updating thought, I think that I might be correct:
"How to locate your browser's type and version
1. Open your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)
2. Select the 'Help' menu and choose 'About'. This should display version information for your browser
We support the following browsers for both the game and the website:
* Firefox 1.5, 2 and 3
* Internet Explorer 6 and 7
* Opera 9
* Safari 2 and 3"
As shown, at the moment Internet Explorer 8 is not supported/compatible so I think that would mean the Client is outdated.
I also have all my Direct X Diagnostics Tool Information Saved in a Text File if any information in that would help, but unfortunately, I do not think that I can post that Information.
If you would like me to post any other Information though that might help with the situation and fix the problem, please do not hesitate to ask me for the information if it well help.
If you can offer any help, please do.
Thanks.
Cheers!
I must thank you graciously for the clearly detailed information on the problem. :D
Anyway, I believe the Vista skin you installed was likely linked to this. Before we approach that possibility it would make me feel better if I knew it was not your web browser first.
If you have not already, please install the latest version of Firefox and test RuneScape again. If this works, then the problem is directly linked to the IE8.
Should that be the case, you can download another copy of IE7 from the Microsoft Download Center. Although I'd recommend sticking with Firefox, it's your choice. ;)
If this does not help, let me know and we can go from there.

Edit:
Did the error happen to have a number associated with it?
Dear <Removed>,
Thank you for your reply.
I currently do have the latest version of FireFox (3.0.6 (BETA)), and RuneScape has always worked perfectly fine in FireFox. The problem I am having is with the RuneScape Client (the Web-Page(the first thing you load when you open the Official RuneScape Client)). It does not load anything at all.
I have been thinking that I should probably re-download IE7, but I will only do that as a last resort if I cannot get IE8 to work.
I just tried to load RuneScape in FireFox, and it came up with a OpenGPL NVIDIA Error. I think that it's because I just updated my drivers and I need to restart My Computer for the update to take effect, so I will do so immediately and try again.
I agree with you that FireFox is better, but I also like having the most up-to-date version of IE incase something happens. Also, you are not able to view the Microsoft Updates Website if you are not using IE 6+.
Which error are you talking about? The "%1" error that I referred to in my first post?
The "%1" error that I referred to in my first post had a title bar labelled "RUNDLL".
The error number I'm referring to is usually in the title bar. In this case it will probably be a number between 188-202. If there was no number was there anything else with the "RUNDLL" in the bar? Also, was there more than one error message or is it just one?
After restarting, has RuneScape worked with Firefox?
Hmmmmmm….I have seen this happen before. I hope all goes well. Remember, if you look on the internet about something like this you may find help.
Good Luck!

The Forum Helper
<Removed>, it just said RUNDLL.
<Removed>, I don't understand what you mean. If I something need help?
Alright, so has RuneScape worked at all yet (with Firefox or the IE7)? Also, do the java log in boxes around the site work (like the one for the forum)?
I'm still trying to rule out any browser specific problems.
Well, I restarted my computer, and I finally got IE8 to work, and it's MUCH better than IE7 so I shall be sticking with it. The RuneScape Client also now seems to be working, so I am guessing that it was because there was no actually IE on this computer installed for that amount of time which is why it didn't work because the Client is just basically IE tweaked.
The forms etc. all work and so far everything seems to be working again perfectly! I have no problems at all anymore.
Thanks for all the help guys!
Cheers!
