Scripting School of Scar n SRL

Ok guys, for a question of organization I made this new thread :)

When would you like to hold classes? There are teachers pretty much available 24 / 7. Come to chat, an op will get you (teacher) voice and be part of the discussion of when to teach. Right now the decision made is that we just idle at the channel and help whenever someone wants, and we decide on days / hours to actually have a class.

There was a suggestion to have Noob / intermediate / adv classes. What do you think?

Suggested topics:
  1. Walking
  2. Object finding
  3. Looping
  4. Forms
  5. Failsafes
  6. Standarts

Idea: Show and Tell (student shows script n teachers suggest what to improve)

the current teacher list:
  • Rasta Magician
  • NaumanAkhlaQ
  • Tootoot222
  • Dan Cardin
  • Dr D. Dervish
  • Sandos
  • NCDS
  • Camo
  • TorrentOfFlame
  • LordSaturn
  • Iron man
  • zasz
  • Rubix
  • R0b0t1
  • Lee Lok Hin
  • Blumblebee
  • TViYH

How to become a teacher:

No because ( Imo ) once you have the basics of scar the rest is easy to pick up.

1-2 lessons a week, Teach basics and advanced stuff.

Otherwise people come to srl get classes for the basics then they stop scripting as they get into members..

I think that 2-3 lessons a week for now. Then once it gets popular we can do more. One topic should be standards. I'm pretty much on IRC all the time just idling, so if they need me I'm there.

Idle at channel for anyone who wants help, this sounds good.

also about 3/4 lessons a week looks good.

i dont see what the problem with helping whoever wants help with something, and giving the help specifically.

Having actual classes probably wont work well, especially since i haven't actually seen anyone there asking for help yet, and then there will be people coming and going in the middle of the "classes". And i think it would just turn into a mess.

FailSafes should be one of the Subjects aswell as Standardization.

The Channel is #SRLSchool correct?

RM, are you able to post an announcement on the forums about this to really get people to start coming?

Yes, i am if i find it necessary. However i will probably jsut post a sticky in scripting help.

But first i wanted to get everything organized to avoid it just being a random bunch of people together with an intention to help, so that we could actually make this a project that goes on :)

added teachers + suggestions for topics and blumblebee's idea to main post :)

I have to say I love the failsafes topic and the show and tell idea :)
There have been quite a few changes in the IRC channel, i'll make a post about that later.

I'm thinking there should be two classes held each weekend, in a schedule that we can get people from all around the world to attend at least one of the classes. I'll have to have another deeper look into everyone's free time and timezones, and I'm thinking that both classes would be on the same subject/topic so that then we can compare and share tips in-between teachers.

Zasz: I got your pm, just didn't edit your timezone n free time yet :p

From the poll i would say this is the direction we will take:

  • 2 lessons a week (possibly expand to 3 later on)
  • Idle at Chan
  • Teach Scar, SRL basics and Member Requirements
  • (Show and Tell? anyone against?)

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts :)

@Rasta, Everything sounds good so far, will you be sending out PM's to all the teachers when you set a date and time for classes? or will it just be posted on here?

I really dont think we should teach Member requirements.

If we do, then people will only want to take those classes, and once they get Members you will never see them again.

I feel that there are enough TUT's on how to get Members.

People should learn until they feel comfortable on there own, and then if they want, apply for members.

I second this. :)

There are many teachers but I do not understand how classes will be only twice a week?

Edit: Oooh, Nvm I get it :) So there are classes for specific "lessons"?

okey guys, i think we're gonna use the new user groups feature to lead this properly ^.^

channel is all set up and has been for a long time, and the user group thingy will sort of give us our own small forums :)

True, but it was a good idea. Reviving a sticky (if that's possible) never hurts. :P
