Well, not quite, but I'm not going to be here in 5 days so I thought I might as well post this now.
Hey everyone, I'm JAD. A lot of you newer people may not know me very well because I haven't been on srl too much over the past months. But the older members probably do because of how much of a spammer I used to be (:p).
Anyways, in a few days it will be exactly 2 years since I officially registered here at srl so I thought I'd make a post. I started out here a 12 year old just looking for some Runescape auto's like any other leecher. I really didn't know anything about computers. Then I came across WhoCares357's guide to just beginning SCAR scripting and thought it was fascinating how easy it was to create an auto. So I started working…
I was home schooled so I did have a good amount of free time. I spent 3-4 hours a day reading up on juicy tutorials to improve my scripting and got a lot of help from some great people (Boreas was one of them. It's amazing to think that he wasn't even a dev at the time!). So in 1 week I wrote my first tutorial on teaching scripting and made a power miner and applied for membership. To my surprise, I got on one day and Fawki had posted his famous phrase, "In!".
So from there on out I wrote a few more tutorials, stayed active in helping people, had a few low quality posts here and there (maybe a little more then a few :p), and wrote a few scripts. It was a lot of fun, but sadly I think that one of the reasons I was actually here was just to try to make a name for myself I guess. It felt good to get cups and new member status's and everything. So I think one of the subconscious reasons I tried so hard was just because I wanted to get "higher up in the ranks" to boost my ego. I didn't notice it then though because it was subconscious. I may not have been the only one to have this subconscious alterior motive, but I now realize how wrong this was. I was helping people and writing tutorials partially for me, not just for the sake of helping people, and that was wrong. Anyways… It helped me become a better person and I've grown up now.
Later I started to learn other languages like C++ and Java and now I am going to community college for my programming certificate and then moving on to get my Computer Science degree.
So anyways, I just wanted to thank everyone here at srl. I had some really fun times here with all of you. It really is a great way to get started programming and create some good memories at the same time.
Sincerely,
~JAD
