SRL Member Projects!

Hey guys, i've been trolling around the forums quite a bit and saw three projects that would be nice to see active again.

  • Requests Compilation
  • Best and Running JM Scripts
  • Scar and SRL Scripting School (codename: SSSS)

Requests compilation might be a pain in the ass to do. Does anyone feel like doing it? :p (maybe just the first 2 pages of requests forum)

Best and Runnin JM Scripts is something that would take a big effort for starting, but after that would just be an update every now and then. (weekly / monthly ? )

For all of these projects, it is not a one person thing. If someone has the free time to do it, and later on has to stop for some reason (eg: don't feel like doing it anymore) you will of course be allowed to stop and no one will hold it against you. I am aiming for a group effort here. Those two would be rather nice things to have updated :)

About SSSS, i think this was an amazing idea to start with. Is anyone up for being teacher? Do you have free time? Do you want to do it? I really hope this gets a lot of responses. I could easily set up an IRC chat or the classes could be held over msn (IRC would probably be best). I would just have to have a talk with Wizzy about this chat being officially linked to #srl, but even if it isn't that shouldn't be a problem.

I hope people will want to follow up these projects :)
I will of course use my influence / newly aquired powers to make sure these projects work ;)

# Requests Compilation
# Best and Running JM Scripts

I agree on those, but they need to be updated by someone who is constant and/or a mod :p

I have no problem doing/working on the Best Running JM Scripts.
I have a Dentist appointment in about 20 minutes so when I get back I can start.

If anyone else Wants to help then PM me I guess?

or if there are any objections to me doing it please speak up!

Umm actually I have a better idea… maybe a wiki list. Can be edited by more people and will look good.

I would help but my activity is low this time of the year becuase of school and such..

Seems like a good idea tho ^^

There's the wiki.

TViYH… was thinking of using SRL wiki and just adding a page. It really needs to be used more.

Dan Cardin

I think that we should get rid of the Requests forum completely and there be made a requests database, where people could add requests, and then when someone saw that request and decided to work on it, they could mark it as "started". Then when someone posts a script that does whatever that request is, they can add that script to the request and it would go into the completed requests area. Actually it would kind of look like a bug tracker type deal, except that everyone could change the status to "being worked on", and i guess you could add multiple people being able to work on it, and it would list the different people that are trying to make the script, if its a popular script.

Quite the complicated-ish idea, but after the initial effort of implementing it, it shouldnt require much upkeep.

Does that go for request compilation too?

A G E N T, yes it does :) read the post i made in TVIH's best and running scripts thread. you'll find it helpful ;)

Dan Cardin, that's a great idea, but let's first see how this works out instead of deleting a forum immediately :p

Nauman: i was sort of hoping you would :)
I'll set up an IRC chan tommorow when i get time again, as i'll be travelling most of the day tomorrow.

I'm all up for helping with the SSSS, but I don't really feel like re-explaining what's already in tutorials (which is the bulk of information people ask about). If there's questions about stuff or anything like that, I'm certainly willing to give some advice and check out scripts.

I haven't really looked at / thought about the two other ideas.

I have a better idea, how about a script svn repo?

A G E N T

2009-02-03 21:08:52

I've got a wiki page started, but I can't fill many in for now, I also put links to that page on the wiki front page.

Maybe for SSSS we could have a bunch of different excperience levels? Maybe one even for the less experienced members? (Like myself):p

Hey, I would love to run the Best and Updated JM scripts. Im pretty active.

P.S - The best teachers learn from their students. (could be applied to me checking scripts :) )

EDIT: I edited the Request Wiki, made it look a little better

That would mean script downloading, which would very likely lead to leeching.

Updated and Running Scripts is pretty much setup to launch. TVIH and Narcle, possibly to be joined by Camo Kyle or Zasz will be in charge of running this.

I still have to send out some more PMs for Requested Scripts and SSSS;

SSSS now has a channel in freenode.irc.net (same server as #srl), #SRLSchool. That'll need some setting up which i'll take care of.

i made a proof of concept type deal of the automated script requester that i was talking about. http://dancardin.freehostia.com/request/index.php
right now, its lacking the status marker, but that can always be added if this were to actually not die.

Kyle Undefined

RM, if you need me to do anything let me know. I basically set how the Wiki should look, and if you need anything else just let me know.

Dan cardin it looks good, any chance you might put your php and websdesign skills to help out the srl wiki? :p

i was thinking of having somewhere in between the design Camo did for the wiki and what Dan Cardin did.

There is also some info mising on both.

Script name[Link to thread where it was discussed], Date Requested, Decription, Status (Requested / Being Worked On / Done [LINK] ), log

log:
RM - started working
RM - Gave up
Fawki - Started working
Narcle - Started updating old verson
Fawki - Released

and once we reach "released" we just stop logging and we leave it there for some time so people can find the new script easily.

I'd love to be a teacher at SSSS, as i'm almost always on #SRL doing basically that anyways =P

Kyle Undefined

2009-02-05 03:28:03

RM, I did what you said with the Script Requests. I didn't add the Log part because it stretched the window and I didn't like the way it looked. I was thinking that when it's done we can just put "Done" as the status and have that word linked to where it is located. Just my thoughts for now.

Okay, do you want the teaching irc to go public?? Because I can teach from 4:30 - 6pm GMT on weekdays and 10 - 11 weekends :).
Also what should we teach first??

me gusta tus ideas.

Script name - is doing
Date Requested - already done (thats just what the the date i already give should be
Status - will do
Log - good idea, i can probably fit that into the status.

[Smart Ass]

Tus Ideas (your ideas if you didn't already understand that) is in plural which affects the verb gustar unlike the others where "Me" would be the subject.

So : the correct version :

Me gustan tus ideas.

In singular :

Me gusta tu idea.

I dont really care if you use my script, but i think it will work better than the wiki and should have much less upkeep (as long as there arent stupid people that require me to put password protection on it.

As far as i can see its done. http://dancardin.freehostia.com/request/index.php
And clicking on the flag gives the log btw.

I'd be a teacher. I have too much free time. However, group lessons could be held where one person is voiced (a speaker) and the rest are unvoiced; allowing the speaker to explain an idea without interruption. The others may ask to be voiced and then will be given a chance to ask a question or two.

It is nice and would be faster. Problem would be to get people to use it. Also for the Status flags, do u have a key for the flags?

Dan Cardin

2009-02-06 07:07:50

green = done
yellow = in progress
red = no one has started or done anything to it.

Problem would be to get people to use it.

Thats why i suggested getting rid of people's ability to post in the request forum, and having a sticky topic linking to it, or implementing it into the forum or something. Cuz having it on my site doesnt really help much. (Not that you even have to use my version of it, cuz this was supposed to be a very detailed example type thing :p)

i use to do it over MSN though :)
