Default SRL stats?

well, the rule of no default accounts has now been put out there; but ive been thinking over it for a few hours.

SRL Stats was once very popular, people liked to show how much they had autoed in their sigs. Now the only evidence of how much you auto is the side bar with the top autoers and it's not all that visible.

The conclusion i've come to is that most users barely care about SRL Stats because they don't see much of it anymore, which is also why the use of default accounts has become more common.

Why do scripters want them? Well, it's a way to know how much your script has been used without a posting of progress reports really. And there's been a big increase in leeching, (or at least that is the impression i have), which is why people want that default account all the more.

For example my fisher (it's been using a default account up until now) has more SRL Stats time than my alcher, and yet i had a whole lot more of proggies for my alcher.

I'm not sure why wizzup doesn't want default accounts. Might be a question of organization or principle; (maybe you can clear us up on that?)

But anyway, my idea would be to have a GLOBAL default account. Everyone can use it as a default account. sort of like

if (SRLStatsID='')or(SRLStatsPass='') then
UseDefaultAccount;

I don't think there's much harm to come from it. It'll definitely make many scripters happy, because people do like to feel appreciation for their work. Many people are posting things like "no proggies no updates". Well, i don't really think that's good, all this leeching is creating a bad environment for the scripter. And let's face it, if the scripters don't like the environment and don't make scripts, this would be pretty much a dead place.

Another solution for this is the "posting" of proggies. Sort of like the way Camo Kyle has done it. Definitely a more organized way, but i'm sure that wouldn't be too hard to do. And there are a lot of people who know php here at SRL forums, and quite a few SSRL+ that know it, so i'm sure we could pull it off.

Of course that would then bring bandwith problems.. but hosting this service on something like freehostia would probably be do-able. Especially if we use a pruning system for proggies older than a week/month.

This is mainly because no script user really sees the point to SRL Stats.

what do you guys think?

Until 50 scripts are using it at one time and pass munk and myself in stats :(.

I was just thinking of that Hyper. It would have to be a default account that wouldn't show up in top stats…

IMO I think we should vote for a srl-stats reset.
There are A LOT of scripts in the tops stats that are never used or totally outdated now.

Unless we reset it regularly there will always be outdated scripts that were previously very popular and widely used.

Anyway I agree with RM, a default acc will provide scripters with feedback on how well their script is working without needing people to post on their thread. Its rather frustrating to release a script to have very little feedback from the users. But perhaps a global stats account isn't a good idea…

We could make GlobalStats.scar send the stats regardless of if the user has entered a stats id. That way we don't have to worry about default accounts. Not sure of the bandwidth implications on the forum though…

Why not add another field to the users in the srl-stats database - a boolean, called "Default account". Give the user the option to change it at will, but if they are caught saying a default account is a real account then ban or whatever. Then only display the non-default accounts in the stats high scores

I say let's not even create the problem of people saying a default account is a real account. I like Zephyrs idea.

Oops, I missed his post :p That's a better idea.

We could move SRL stats elsewhere? Ive always thought about this, to split up certain parts of "Cpu hogging" onto cheaper servers etc. Although creates issues if you go with a new domain etc.

We could also remake SRL-Stats, so that it won't have these problems.
SRL-Stats' purpose has always been fun, and partially achievements, no more.
It is is NO way an obligation to use SRL-Stats, and for the same reason a Default Account is plain ridiculous. You are still forcing the user to use SRL-Stats in some way.

I'm willing to attempt to make a more modern SRL Stats that takes into account empty information etc. along with an "include" of information to use it with. It would just be a simple system, but I've always wanted to have a go at making something like it :)

I'm curious as to what these modern srl stats would include? :p

well, from the way I see it / remember it this worked well in two ways:
People would want to use SRL Stats to show it off in their signatures, how much they auto. This pretty much diead with the signature restriction

Scripters used to make all these images with how long the scripts had run. I used to have quite a few of those myself. Right now no website for these dynamic sigs is up. This was great for publicity.

Pretty much the only use left is for the scripter to know how long it's ran. Also, this becomes more vital with the Scripting Restrictions about connecting to webpages.
