I'd highly recommend The Gimp.

Pff. I'd highly recommend Photoshop, I dont think any other image editing software can compare.

Gimp would be your best choise, but if you are looking for professional photo editing then I'd use PhotoShop CS 3 or 4

GIMP can compare, but I don't think the UI is as good.

I use Photoshop CS2 to do any signatures/graphic editing.

I use Macromedia Fireworks/Flash to do animation. Never learned ImageReady or After Effects =/

I already have Photoshop 7.0 and 9.0 but havent tried anything above that.

Im going to give "Gimp" a try i suppose, just for something new.

Im just kind of Bored with photoshop, kinda wanna see what else is offered as far as Photo Editing goes.

No. Just no. Photoshop all the way, even if it's not open source its a million times better than gimp + has way, way more tutorials, guides and support etc… Gimp is just a retarded version of photoshop.

Of course, if you can't afford photoshop and don't know 'bout them torrents I suggest getting Gimp.

Photoshop does have more tutorials but GIMP has almost all of the photoshop features. Renders, filters, layers, magic select, etc etc. Many photoshop tutorials can be converted into GIMP tutorials so it's still cool. :)

Plus gimp is very very fast whereas photoshop loads a lot slower on my computer. 15 MB vs 1 GB :D

Gimp all the way bro. :D And yes, Gimp is probably your best bet.
