Just bought a laptop from HHGregg.

Sony VAIO NS190J Notebook.
Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 / 2 GHz Processor.
Microsoft Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
4 GB DDR2 SDRAM.
250 GB, Serial ATA-150, 5400 rpm Harddrive.

Got it for $750.00.

All specs can be found here: http://www.superwarehouse.com/Sony_VAIO_NS190J_S_Notebook/VGN-NS190J_S/ps/1542594

What do you guys think?

Btw, it only technically cost me $400 due to gift cards, etc.

You got ripped in my opinion :o I bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115543 , and it has almost the same specs as yours, except it has a bit less RAM. The RAM I can buy and be less than your 750 USD :p

I don't really like to buy laptops, but i rekon it's a good price for the specs. I really like to buy parts and build my PC.

Pretty good deal :) I got one with a better processor (T8400, 2.26GHz), just 3GB RAM, 13.3 inch screen, 4.3 lbs, for $830 :D

Not too shabby. You got the 4 gigs of RAM built in, and the 64 bit Vista to recognize it (Hy you would have to buy that also), which factors into price. Discrete video ram is great for gaming. 4 usb ports can be pretty handy. Screen size is great for a general purpose laptop. N wireless is a nice touch. Bluetooth would have been cool, but adapters are getting really small and cheap nowadays. AOL blows, nuff said. Hard drive and webcam are pretty standard for that price range. I'm not a big fan of Sony computers and their proprietary preferences, but let's just hope you don't have to replace anything out of warranty. All in all, looks like you got a pretty good deal.

:) Thanks Boreas.

It's good to verify a good buy from a "higher-up" like you :)

Thanks!

UK and US retail prices are different, not just the currency difference, UK is generally more expensive all round….

Why do people not like Vista? >_< I'd have agreed with that a year ago, but not now.

Lol. I've heard it has a lot of bugs.

BUT SO WHAT! IT'S LIKE $200, AND IT COMES FREE! :P

It may be because im not very familiar with it, but I just find XP to be a better system and more convenient and user friendly.

It's the former ;)

Who cares? XP still works fine, and it is a lot less intensive on the System. Vista is like Mac computers: it isn't really any better, and the only thing different is how it looks. Mac and Vista are both eye-candy, compared to a good PC with XP. Still just my opinion :o

Hy, with 4gb it won't matter.

Go kill yourself.. Saying Mac(which I still don't like) is "eye-candy" is just plain stupid. It's an entirely different OS & which is better(A current Mac OS & Vista) can be debated..

I am referring to the hardware, not entirely the operating system. Sorry, it was a bad comparison. >_>

Honestly, I think the only thing XP has over Vista now (in the past there was compatibility and bugs that were fixed in SP1) is how few resources it uses up. BUT, almost every new computer nowadays will come with 2-3GB of RAM, coupled with a modern day processor, meaning there shouldn't be any noticeable difference between one running XP and one running Vista for an average PC user (And if you're not an 'average PC user', you shouldn't exactly be buying the cheapest PC you can find ;)). Besides, Vista's new features are pretty cool (searching for a file on an XP computer kills me >_<) :).

But seems like a good price for the specs, etc

Meh, seems like an alright deal. Not good or bad in my opinion. Also about the never-ending Vista argument, I don't like it terribly much myself. I wouldn't say it's the worst ever, but it does take up an obsessive amount of computing power, and those bugs >.< If I wasn't lazy/had an easy way to do it, I would revert back to XP on this computer, (native Vista ftl).

Seems pretty good, but the thing you have to consider when buying premade computers is that if they're including a pay-to-use OS, then they're going to be passing that price on to you somehow, usually by marking up prices of each component a bit. So it's not really 'free'.

2009-01-13 21:51:17

Bad deal, Needs a better processor/video card and vista 64-bit is disgusting.

Aser

2009-01-14 00:38:22

It doesn't really matter if we think it was a good deal does it? You already bought it. What matters is if you like it or not.
Personally, I dislike Vista. That's mainly just because I like old computer stuff. I would still use floppys if I could reasonably.

Don't barge in thinking I'm wrong for asking a question.

I wasn't saying you were wrong. I was saying that if you like it, you shouldn't dislike it just because of somebody's opinion. If you hate it, you shouldn't change that opinion because of somebody else's.

Unfortunately I found out that it doesn't have a good video card.

So, Aser, I asked for that reason.
