Mime Idea - Timing

A thought just popped into my head - in the mime random, wouldn't all the emotes have slightly different (thus, unique) running times? I don't have any guys in mime right now, so my research was mostly confined to hypercam videos on youtube :( I got some results, they don't seem to be very encouraging, but there are two glaring sources of error here:
a) Using a video as opposed to real client
b) Determining when the emote "ends" is a bit dodgy - I was going by when the floor is no longer 'lit up' by the spotlight, but I think this could be refined for greater precision…

I ran it a few times, with vary degrees of precision (i.e, Wait(30) vs Wait(15) vs Wait(2) in my loop).

Some things to note: laugh, lean, box, and wall are all very close (see above), whereas dance and scratch head are very easily differentiated.

CASE 1:
rope = 4156
wall = 4015
dance = 3000
laugh = 4000
box = 4078
laugh = 3984
lean = 3984
scratch = 3390
lean = 1125
box = 4094

CASE 2:
rope = 4125
wall = 4015
dance = 3016
laugh = 4000
box = 4093
laugh = 3984
lean = 4000
scratch = 3390
lean = 1125
box = 4078

CASE 2.5 :
rope = 4140
wall = 4000
dance = 3000
laugh = 4016

Discuss?

That's a very good observation. I didn't notice it till you brought it up. Could you do the wait based on what text you selected for the emote?

Wow, that could be the solving key :) Good job!

Ahhh this is a very good observation, I'd be VERY interested in attempting to make a solver with you. Add me on MSN if interested.

What about the length/width of the mime, while hes doing certain emotes?

Shermanator - I think I have you added from before.
kingarabian - could work - but what part of the body should I measure?

I was thinking we could do one of 2 ideas:

  • TPA the "black" of his clothes aka arms, then we do TPA bounds, and that combined with the time of the light.
  • Take 4(or more) pictures over the 4 seconds(or however long the emote is) and then compare the pictures just like in Piv's gaschecker(see earlier versions of SRL) and the % of difference between them could result in the answer.

I may think of some more things though, we should get talking about it. If this gets solved it will be a great day in autoing.

I can help too :)
I have one idea, maybe we should measure the distance between mime hands and his body??
And i attached 6 pictures

Trouble is though, the hands are the same colour as his shirt. Something that distinguishes them, though, is that the white glove colour appears right next to the black sleeve colour.

I think its easy to make, we can make somethink like area detector, and if area of white color is higher then f.e 100 then script should color this area black (same as in my plugin)

If the time that the light stays up is constant, then you might as well just stick with that - no need to complicate things.

The only issue is the fact that SCAR isn't as accurate on laggy computers…

We could get the first one purposely wrong, then use that time as a base: I.e.

Head should equal 2000 miliseconds
B Computer takes 2100.
If Dance should take 2500 milliseconds, then
Percentage of Lag = (2100/200)*100

2500 * % of lag = Time dance should take.

Get?

You could use the white gloves :p

@lee lag is not a percent :p

Just do so that every 20ms check if the box around mime changes, when it doesn't anymore it means that the lighting is done..

yeah there's no point checking the timing that way :p just the light color, much easier

Would present a lot problems - shirt is exact same colour.
I'm leaning towards measuring the light, but really accurately somehow.

@Metagen, it can be.

If, on your computer, the animation Dance takes 5 seconds.

On my computer, it takes 6 seconds. Which means that my computer is a bit slower than yours. My computer has 83 1/3% of your's processing capability. We can then use that 83% to divide by all the times needed for the animations for your computer, and the times generated will be the times for mine.

But there's a point at which all CPUs above a certain frequency can handle it just fine (maybe not with Vista). Mine's a single-core 2.08GHz and runescape takes up about 85-90% of my CPU. If it was taking up 100% then my cpu would be lagging it and I wouldn't be able to run it.

Also, I think the new RS uses your graphics card, so good ones would lag less than crappy ones.

Provided there's no lag spikes while the mime is performing an emote, we could divide everything by the time the shortest emote took to get the ratios, eg the shortest emote would be 1, if the next took 50% longer it would be 1.5. I'm assuming jagex dont mess with the emote lengths, so the final ratios should be the same for everyone..talthough I dont know how you would get the ratio for the emote he just performed, as theres no way of knowing which emote it is without the time taken for the shortest emote on that computer….Unless the time taken for the emote to perform is the same for the player and the mime? In which case, we could perform the shortest emote first regardless of what the mime's emote is, to get the denominator for the ratios

I don't have any characters to test with ATM, but the difference there would be that in the random, your character cheers/cries after performing the emote, where the mime turns and bows - would have to consider that in the timing.

Remember that you don't HAVE to choose an emote every time.

In other words, once you have calculated how long each emote should take on your computer, you could skip the emotes that are too close to another one to be sure what it was doing without being penalized.

Aren't there also limited emotes? I'm not sure if they change each time, but if they do you only need to compare the ones that are there (so if only one of two that have the same approx. time are on there, you know it's that one).

A G E N T

2008-12-21 10:10:08

It's always the same 6 (I think) - Dance, Laugh, Lean, Wall, Box, and Scratch Head.
But I didn't know that you can just not do one.

tarajunky

2008-12-21 13:24:56

There are 4 normal emotes. Dance, Think, Cry, Laugh. The text for these four always show up on the left half of the dialog box.

And there are 4 mime emotes. Climb Rope, Lean, Box, and Wall. The text for these four always show up on the right half.

If you don't answer, it just waits for 30 seconds or whatever and then does another emote.

A G E N T

2008-12-21 18:45:24

Then couldn't we just pick one or two that have a very unique time (shortest and longest), then wait until we find one of those? It would take a lot longer, but it would be more reliable.

MylesMadness

2008-12-21 18:48:48

Or, we can just figure out how much difference in time is and if its really a lot we can think of how to do it.

Bam Bam

2008-12-21 21:23:19

I would be surprised if Jagex doesn't just randomize the light a little bit once we figure all of this out.
