Guide to rune crafting with the abyss
First off, rune crafting takes a long time to train, although once you hit a certain level it becomes one of the best money making skills in the game.
So first off the abyss is a cave full of creatures that aren’t afraid to attack you, plus it’s in the middle of the wilderness, and to get there you need to teleport through the zamorak monk. Before you use the abyss however you need to complete a small miniquest. Just ask the monk he’ll tell you about it, but after that it’s easy money.
I wouldn’t recommend using the abyss until at least level 44 it’s a waste of time and money otherwise. If you’ve never been in the abyss before then you won’t have rune crafting pouches which help you by carrying a certain amount of essence depending on the size, if you want them just go and kill some monsters in the abyss not hard J.
As soon as you enter the abyss you’ll be skulled and your prayer drained so it’s always good to have a teletab on the ready in case you get attacked and hit quite a lot. Prayer potions do work however I wouldn’t recommend them, just take food.
Now the guide.
Stuff you’ll need-
Charged glory ammys
Essence (rune/pure depending on the rune)
The best dragonhide you can wear
Some teletabs
Maybe some food depending on your hp
Depending on your highest skill you’ll need
An axe
A tinderbox
Or a pickaxe
For agility and thieving you needn’t bring anything.
You should be wearing something like this
a long with whatever else you needed as posted above
And your inventory must consist of

E=essence
P=pouch
(depending on which pouch you can use of course)

now here is a simple map of the abyss from TipIt
this lists the monsters you will find in the abyss although not accurate to the placement as they generally mingle with each other, a lot. but with this map you can see where each of the portals are and where you will be able to enter with your selected skill. so the step by step ;)
1. Glory teleport to Edgy bank and stock up with what you need then run through the wilderness to the zamorak monk (just to the tip of the river on the east) make sure run is on and teleport through the monk.
2.Run around the abyss until you find the thing to do with your skill (tendrils, boil ect..) or until you come across something large sticking out of the wall you can push through or a pair of darting eyes, agility and thieving respectivelly. once you find one repeatedly click it till you get through.
3.find your selected altar and enter through the portal, craft runes empty pouches craft runes again and start over.
all this should have taken around a minute so it's possible to do 1.5k runes an hour, which is quite a lot :P.
if you run low on health through any of the trip just click your teletab and try the run again it makes no difference.
