Creating an image without a background?

Well, in Runescape (and any other game), the images of the people and other things don't have a background. I want to create an image like this too, but I don't know how because whenever I do, it shows the person, and then a white background representing a rectangle around the image from left to right, and top to bottom. How do you cut out this part of the image to make the image a non-rectangle?

Thanks!

You mean, like their transparent backgrounds?
If your talking about the characters or building, those are just 3d objects and don't contain a background.
If not, then i dont get what your talking about.
Are you talking about something similar to my sig.

I'm talking about if I made a stick figure of a person in paint, it would make a rectangle around the stick figure with the background color like this:

__
(__)
___||___
||
/ \
/ \

It would make the whole image a rectangle like:

__________
| __ |
| (__) |
|___||___|
| || |
| / \ |
| / \ |
----------

So if I painted this image onto an applet where the applet has a blue background, it would have the stick figure, and the white around it that completes the rectangle.

So if I saved it, it would have the person, and a white background rectangle is how it would be saved like in the second picture. How do I have the image be just the the stick figure?

Create/edit the image in PS, GIMP, or other good image editors, delete the background, and save the image as a PNG.

Try using Adobe Photoshop CS3/4.

It has transparent options and all kinds of shit.

but, now that I looked at my transparent sig, it still has a rectangle around it but it's see through.

Once again, I could be over-looking exactly what you need lol.

in photoshop you do:

File>New
there should be something like () transparent background

you press that

then do whatever u want

then save as PNG

In Photoshop you'd pick this:

The grey and white squares represent the see-through part

And then it looks like this :)

In good old Paint, select either cutting tool (the free form or rectangular). Then, below the tools, you will see 2 pictures of a yellow rectangle with red, blue, and green shapes in front of it. Click the bottom one. Now the white background will be treated as transparent.

If you have a background other than white, use GIMP.
