HUGE VIRUS COMING !!! PLEASE READ & FORWARD !!!

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!

I checked Snopes (URL above, and it is for real!!

Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS AND E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

Also on Snopes:

Although the Postcard virus is real, it isn't a "BIG VIRUS COMING" (it's already been around in multiple forms for a long time now), it will not "burn the whole hard disc" of your computer, CNN didn't classify it as the "worst virus" ever, and it doesn't arrive in messages bearing a subject line of 'Invitation.'

It's actually not fake.

Yes, it was blown out of proportion. However, there IS a virus going around through "Hallmark Postcard" e-mails.

Sounds alot like a hoax to me…

Scaper, haven't I seen you post something similar on an other thread ? :S

It isn't fake, but from what ive heard its a simple RAT. So just update your AV and you should be fine.
But cmon, lol@ burn all your C drive… hehe

I lol'd really hard at that.

Actually, I lol'd at the whole thing, but that was particularly funny.

But i mean… Isn't it easy to just kill your computer by erasing the hard drive by a .bat ?

Edit, of course, nobody would open that (and .bat sharing over the net is illegal).

I mean, its kind of suspicious :

Who would be stupid enough ? :S

1. Norton sucks, Scaper.
2. Postcard/other variations of this type have been circulating for years.

Not true. There's just a lot fewer on linux than on Windows.

Just another chain-mail that's supposed to shock old and internet paranoid people and make them put on their tinfoil hats and run to their bomb shelters (if they don't own a bomb shelter they'll have to take plan B and run to the hills)..

It'd be awesome though, if someone sent a letter bomb (with a hallmark postcard included) to the starter of that crap so that he'd burn and die. The irony, oh the irony…

Why do lame "w4nn4b3 1337h4x c0d3rz" always, always have to bring up the glorious .BAT FILES and their ability to "ERASE THE HARD-DRIVE AND KILL!" (by the by, I suggest you try running that, it won't get to KILL YOUR COMPUTER, but none of the h4x0rs know it because no-one ever ends up running their crap).. The question here really is who would be stupid enough to waste their time to batch crap.

Yes, but you can't deny the fact that there are viruses on Linux. Just like there are Mac viruses. You just kinda have to want to be infected and go looking for them :P

You don't HAVE to get all pissed and burn all over the place you know :/.
And it IS possible to destroy all of windows with a batch file with a few lines of code.

Am I one of these "w4nnn4b3 1337h4x c0d3rz" ? If yes, then I'll tell you :

I never, ever claimed to be a "1337h4x c0d3r", just that I got BASIC knowledge of batch and notepad coding.

Tell me : Do you even know anything of batch coding ?

"Who would be stupid enough to waste their time to batch crap." :

Well I could say the same thing about EVERY SINGLE scripting language you know.

"Who would be stupid enough to waste their time to write thousands of uncomprehensible lines of JAVA crap ?" .

Tsss… Sorry but I'm not on the same point of view as you there.

Yeah. The Mac users always went on about no viruses, and when the first every real mac virus came out all mac users shit themselves.

You have to be an idiot to get a virus on any OS, if you have a decent Anti-Virus/Internet Security software you should be fine anyway.
