VERY good documentary . i dont know how you can disagree with marijuana after watching this. http://blip.tv/file/1356143

I haven't watched it yet (going to though), but I'd just like to ask how you can agree with marijuana (not medical)? It's a drug, and like all drugs is addictive and has negative effects on your body.

I agree, Sand Storm. Drugs are bad, unless prescription, or aspirin ;). I don't get how my friends can waste their life for this.

I watched the whole thing the other day when I saw the link on Sythe. IT completely changed my thinking on cannabis.

I'd like to revise my statement. I watched the intro, and it's brought up some pretty important points that I had no clue about.

I still think marijuana is "bad" (horrible word to use tbh), if used for the purpose of getting high. According to the documentary, there's at least 25,000 uses for it.

You mean documented marijuana overdoses per year. There is no way that people don't die due to the dulled reaction time and other side effects of marijuana.

I watched the video as long as I could stand it. You know what, It seems strikingly familiar to what the tobacco companies would say about tobacco.

"Oh no, its completely harmless, we have research to prove it!"

And you know what? They did, they had lots of research PROVING that tobacco was a harmless substance.

They say things like "Oh it can't cause lung cancer because it is grown in fields that don't use radio active fertilizer!" What on earth? Radiation is NOT the sole cause of cancer… Let me repeat that, Radiation is NOT the sole cause of cancer. They have one report that says it doesn't cause lung cancer verses several hundreds that say it does. Hmm, it must be a government cover up!

This is just a video of people trying to justify their smoking habits. It is clearly bias and as previously pointed out, has factual inaccuracies. You might as well be watching a 1970s film on tobacco safety published by the tobacco industries.

I just finished watching the whole thing. I knew that "pot" as you will isn't as bad as they say because my best friend spends a dime ($20 bucks worth) every two weeks. He isn't addicted or pursuing other drugs, he goes to work does his job and comes home. He hasn't smoked in about a 2 weeks and is fine. The only thing the government is doing is brain washing us like the video said. It should be controlled just like tobacco and alcohol is. I agree with the video, but I know that it would never happen.

So your saying that a habbit forming anti-depressant that may cause suicide is better than a "drug" that causes lazyness, foggy-midedness, enhansed appetite, "the giggles", and sleepyness? I, personaly, would rather be unproductive for a few hours than take heart medcation that gives me stomach ulsers.

You have a point. I'm sure there are some undocumented marijuana related deaths (although marijuana overdose= sleep and not much else).

But then you have to consider the car accidents cause by "Bob" thinking about his marital problems. Or "Tom" looking at his cheese burger. I bet there are lots of undocumented causes of death that we do every day.

This is my favorate beacuse it seems like boberman took the time to think ouside of the propaganda handed to him.

The big difference between The Union, and a tobacco film, is money.

What good does a film like this do for it's creators? Im sure it makes some kind of money, but at the end of the day, they have nothing to gain or loose.

On the other hand, the tobacco companies are trying to sell a product. If they are convincing enough, you buy more ciggartes and they make more money. They have a reason to lie

The average marijuana smoker doesn't give a rats behide what anyone thinks about what they do, so i don't think they would jump through the hoops of film making just to "justify their smoking habits".

Im not saying marijuana is perfect and everyone should smoke it. What I'm saying is this. The United States government, and many other governments, have worked very hard to drill into our minds that all drugs are the devil.

You have to come up with ideas for yourselves, and not just take whatever is fed to you.

If you want to see a history of the propaganda campaign im talking about, Watch GRASS (narrated by Woody Harrelson) @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGKeq2HrBxA

The only thing that I would respond with is the goal of the Union and the goal of the tobacco industry is one and the same, to keep their favorite product legal (or in the unions case, make it legal). If they get a film like this shown to a lot of people, chances are that they can in fact in act a change in the government.

The thing is, They need a REAL film about the dangers of marijuana, not one filled with cherry picked research and statements like "Marijuana isn't grown in radio-active fertilizer, that makes it non-cancerous!". Because, really marijuana is less damaging then alcohol. If they can focus on that fact, they have a shot at making it legal.

But the moment they hand me some BS line that I can tell is BS, all their credibility goes straight down the toilet and I ignore pretty much their entire message (even if there is some truth in it). I doubt I am alone in this.

The other thing they need is EASILY verifiable studies, not random and obscure ones that have only the claims of a single researcher to back it up. They say that "Marijuana kills 0 people every year" Ok, that sounds good, wheres the proof? So I google it, and guess what, the only websites that have that statistic are, you guessed it, pro-marijuana websites.

So what should I do, Blindly believe what they are telling me when the only people that seem to validate their ideas are people that are most likely smoking marijuana themselves when they write up their web pages. Ummm, yeah.

Honestly, the only thing this video convinces me of is that alcohol should be banned as well. (I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, so yeah, thats somewhat unique)

I totaly see what you are saying about the facts provided in this film. When I first watched it, I was kinda thinking they were a little shakey.

The key is, to take facts from many different scorces, and from both sides, to form and objective opinions. Everyone is going to try to feed you BS from their slant. Would you trust Jagex when they tell you that scripting is dead? Would you trust these forums when they say Jagex is a group of worthless slobs? I wouldnt

Watch different films, read articles both pro and against marijuana, and then form your oppinion.

Also, dont you wonder why there arnt any marijuana films telling the "truth" (i assume you mean negative effects)? I think its because there are no solid negative "truths". At least, not enough to make a whole film about.

Talk to anyone who has smoked MJ and i bet they wont tell you "Oh its so terrible". They may not have enjoyed it, but anyone who as experienced it knows its not nearly as bad as some people make it seem.

Only reason why marijuana is illegal is because any moron can throw a bunch of seeds in their backyard and have enough marijuana not to buy from the government.

I find all anti-drug policies stupid. All it does it fuel the drug lords pockets. It gives money to sketchy people. You think the people in Afghanistan would be growing opium poppies if they could not sell heroin at the current prices? How about gangs, think they would grow marijuana if they were not making 3 million dollars a year from one grow op in a house? The only people who lose from drug legislation are the tax payers. We pay to send our friends, our family to jail. And that is not how it should be, instead of paying billions of dollars annually we should control this black market, and set up programs.

All drugs have negatives and positives to them. To classify one drug as bad or good because who is trying to sell you it. Got bad pain? No problem, you can get some prescription codeine. Does your child have ADHD and other medications have failed? Well that is alright, we can prescribe you desoxyn and there is no problem with that because you have a prescription. Want to get screwed up, not remember what you did last night, slowly kill your liver? Alcohol is your poison then.

At the end of the day, drug legislation is just to keep the pharmaceutical companies at the top. Who needs aspirin that kills your liver when you can go and smoke a little marijuana? Oh and do not get me started on using hemp industrially. The paper companies do not want that. Want to know why? Hemp paper is superior to paper from trees. Not only can you get more paper from the same area of land with hemp then trees, but it also is much, much greener. And lasts centuries.

Also another interesting fact, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was re-written by Robert Louis in 3 to 6 days with the help of binging cocaine.

At the end of the day what does it matter if you do marijuana or if you drink alcohol? The only difference is one has a social stigma and the other is the social norm. The sad truth is the government likes to baby sit us and steal away our freedoms and the big companies that run the western world pay the government big dollars to keep it that way. At least that is my opinion. Marijuana might not be the healthiest, but I rather take that then then some of the sketchy drugs the pharmaceutical companies push out.

The fact that it's all about money is very sad indeed. Alcohol companies don't want pot legalized because less people would drink. Same could be said for painkiller producers. I believe it was somewhere around the 30s during which alcohol was illegal that they banned marijuana, and it was classified as a government loss of income because it was not taxed.

As far as the studies of effects of drugs go, keep in mind the more "profound" your study is, the more it will sell. If ecstasy were to cause death for 20% of users as this study found (which it clearly doesn't, the doses given were nowhere near described in the original study and I think in all of Britain there's about 10 related deaths a year, all from dehydration/heat stroke). People used to think ecstasy caused Parkinson's disease (not exactly Parkinson's, but the results were the same). It turned out they accidentally used Meth instead and now guess what happened to ecstasy? That probably won't be getting unbanned even though it would have a positive impact on society (seen the obesity rates recently? The world needs more exercise :p).

Also, Salvia is pretty much harmless. It's un-addictive and you build up an anti-resistance to it (so instead of it having less of an effect on you, it actually has more of one over time). It's epic brainfuckery at it's best, but there's still nothing bad about it (as long as you don't have easy access to outside, but alcohol works the same way :)).

I don't honestly know much about marijuana, I won't make any claims.

Alcohol… well.. just listen to your high school "health" class ;)

That's all I have for now, time to watch that :p

Realize drugs are in everything. You can not avoid them. And if you think otherwise have fun quitting all caffeinated drinks, coffee. Never taking anti-pain medication again. If you ever have to get something amputated ask for no pain medicine because "you do not want to die". That means if you get a headache you can not take Tylenol or Advil. The world runs on drugs, you will never be able to escape this in this era.

I realize you meant illicit drugs, but the only reason why they are labeled as bad is because the government can not control it. Why do you think the government hasn't banned tobacco or alcohol even though time after time both are proven to be detrimental to a users health? However, I must admit I like the idea of yours in the fact that if someone wants to "throw away their life" they can. People should be free to do as they wish, whether it is detrimental or not.

Remember, when you broadly speak about drugs, realize this means every chemical that altars the function of the body.

Also, you have to look at MJ in perspective before you call it a drug.

You are putting it in a catagory with meth, heroin, and coccane. I havent done anything accept MJ, so im not saying these drugs are good or bad. I dont know.

What i am saying for sure, is that they have a profound physical effect on the user. You can spot a herion or a meth junkie pretty easy. There are probably people you know that smoke, and you'd never know.

Also, when we are talking about addiction, i think is major bs to hold MJ within a mile of these other substances. It's just rediculous.

Last thing. MJ is 100% natural. you dont have to cook it, or refine if. you buy and use it in its natural state.

Calling weed a drug is kinda out of line. I think it should be viewed by society, and treated just like, alcohol.

Cocaine is natural, you just extract it out of trees. Methamphetamine can be extracted from a tree. Nicotine occurs naturally in tobacco related plants. Hemlock is natural. Nightshades are natural. I reckon you will not have a problem drinking mercury or arsenic because they are natural too right?

Cocaine and Methamphetamine may occur natrual in some plants, but they must be extracted for use. I wouldnt say they are in their natural form.

No i dont want to drink mercury, or eat rocks or anything like that. But heres the point. Those things are all more dangerous than MJ, but are still legal. If you get caught with hemlock growing in your back yard, you arnt going to jail.

I personaly think alcohol is just poison for your body, but i dont think it should be illegal. just because something isnt the best thing for your body doesn't mean it should be illegal or considered "wrong".

I just do not like people saying Marijuana should be legal because its natural. I could go on all day about natural stuff that will have you looking death in the eyes.

yeah i see what you're saying. i think that the fact that MJ is natural doesn't autmaticly mean it should be legal/accepted, but its a peice of the whole agrument, which by now i think ive brought up all those pieces in this thread lol
