I hope that making it more detailed and specific, counts as updating :)
This guide will contain general tips about how to become an SRL Member.
Do's
DO write an SRL script.
- The whole point of SRL members is that you know enough about scripting with SRL to advance to the next level. We can't tell if you do indeed know SRL if you dont write a script that uses SRL.
DO write a script that demonstrates you know all of the requirements of becoming a member (Proper use of player switching, DTMs, good standards, etc).
- If you are lacking in one of these areas with the script you are looking to apply with, then submit another script that demonstrates you know how to use that skill. It will increase your chances of being accepted.
DO learn as much as you can before applying.
- If you know everything beforehand then you can apply with a script that will get you in on your first try. That will save you having to reapply in a month.
DO make good posts.
- As you will see, there are certain unwritten rules (well technically they are but...) in the forum. Don't excessively spam/cuss/bad-mouth users/etc, this is common sense.
DO contribute and help as much as possible before applying.
- This will only help you with your application. You will be respected, which could make people that are on the fence about voting for you, vote yes.
DO wait a month before trying again if you get rejected.
- This time period is to make sure that you learn the subjects that you lack knowledge in according to your applied script.
DO learn to script.
- There are many, many tutorials for learning almost every aspect of scripting. If you take the time to learn, you'll be better off.
DO search first, ask questions later.
- Always remember to search to see if your problem has already been asked (it almost always has been asked before).
DO think twice before applying.
- Am I really ready? Don't waste your time or ours. Remember what some wise man said, 'Don't enter a fight unless you know you will win'.
DO take the constructive criticism.
- Usually members will post reasons why they voted no. It will help you to write better scripts and is usually helpful.
Don'ts
DO NOT try to apply with a low post count.
- Its not an absolute must, but the longer you've been here, the better the members will know and respect you. You will have a much better chance of being accepted if you aren't someone that turned up out of no where.
DO NOT rush yourself.
- The more you rush, the less you'll learn. You'll do things the wrong way in your script and it could interfere with you getting in.
DO NOT write a script just for the sake of getting accepted.
- This is mainly because we do not want members to get in, then become inactive.
DO NOT beg, be needy, campaign for votes, or be too persistent to the point of annoyance.
- This will just make people dislike you and (rightfully) vote no on your application.
DO NOT hold grudges to people that vote no.
- They have every tight to vote no. Also their voting no shows that you have more learning to do. Its for your own good and will help you to write better scripts.
DO NOT copy scripts.
- You will be caught, and it will hurt your chances of being accepted next time (if not making it impossible to be accepted at all.). You may be infracted, or banned, since this is a serious offense. It's not worth it, it wastes your time and ours.
DO NOT apply if you just care about getting scripts.
- If you don't plan to contribute to the forum after getting into SRL Members, then just don't apply. Getting member-only scripts is not what being a member is about.
EDIT: just edit my post, to get the formatting if you intend to use this. If not then…oh well :p
