If you do it over a network you run into a few problems; speed, and stability being the most prominent.

To install on it you would just set that as the directory of whatever you're installing. You shouldn't have to worry about things being corrupt unless there is a hiccup where connection is lost during the install.

You can further imagine what doing this would be like by thinking of this website as the hardrive and the forums as your installed program. If the website goes down so does the forum, if your internet is slow so is the forums, if you have a hiccup during a post it sometimes leads to multiple posts.

If you try to use whats on the HD from a different computer then you installed from you would be missing the Reg keys (Well, unless said program is portable or uses no Reg Keys)

Edit: Get internal if you want to play games or whatever off of it - Get external if you want to use it as backup and file storage.

I want it because: So i can access the same files on numerous PC's, e.g. on some PC's i'm not even aloud to download anything.

It will be mostly, .txt files, .cpp, .mp3/.mp4, .avi (document, music and video files).

Just i would also like the INSTALL programs onto it because of not having much hard drive.

I really wouldn't recommend it for programs but for storage like i said it's more then fine. Just install programs on your internal and store everything on the external you should only get corrupted files when you transfer and a hiccup occurs ( you can just re-transfer the item if it does happen) which is not likely to happen often.
