Well first :

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post it.
If not, I'll ask some mod to move it.

Now, to the subject.
Most of you know the SRL Scripting Competition which occurs once in a while.
Haven't some of you dreamed of participating in one of these ? :rolleyes:
Personally : I do really want to participate in one of these :P.
BUT its impossible, you gotta be really good scripter to even get ranked in the competition and most participants are :
-SRL Members (Most)
-SRL Developers
-SRL Moderators

Most of us, SRL JR Members, believe its IMPOSSIBLE to win against someone of these ranks in such a competition (I do xD).

So i had an idea :

Making a very own competition for JR Members.

This wouldn't have any rewards or anything, but would be a good way to compare yourself to other SRL JR Members and see if you're better or worse than most of the SRL JR Members.

Pro's : Would give us (JR Members) something to compete about without being SURE to loose (Normal competitions).
Would be fun to see how good you are at scripting.
Much more, think about it, you'll understand :p

Con's : I'm sure alot of you know about it : ALOT of JR Members spammed their way to JR Member status, which would make the "Judges" (if they will be any) to get alot of "Hello World" scripts and pure fail scripts.
We will need Judges who can be neutral, not get to vote for their friends (REALLY IMMATURE ! :().

I think it would be fun, personally, I've dreamed about participating in one of these Competitions but i'm sure i'll loose XD.

How the competiton will be made.(if this actually happens)

1) The announcement.

First, me, and the judges would announce that a scripting competition has started.
The ones who want to participate have to apply to be in it on the same thread.
I (or some other person) will check daily for new applyers.

2) Start of competition.

One week has passed since the announcement. The competition starts.
You now have 5-7 days to make a script for the preliminary tests.
The preliminary tests are like a little exam for you to pass to get into the real competition.
If you don't pass it, you won't get into the real one.

Only 10 participants in the real competition.
In the first script, you will have to show that you control :
-RadialWalking
-Symbol Finding
-Failsafes (!mportant)
-Color finding
-loops (no endless [Until (false);] loops)
-Antiban and AntiRandoms.

That script will have to do something of your choice (Imaaaagination [Spongebob Squarepants]).

It doesn't have to compile or anything. Just show us that you know how to use the stuff shown up there ^^^. That means that if we add it in a real script, it compiles, no problem and works.

Of course it has to compile and SHOULD be free unless its absolutely EXEPTIONAL !!!

The judges will look if they find some skill (oh i'm sure they'll do ;)) in the scripts. If yes, you will be sent a pm by me, telling you that you passed the preliminary test.

3) The big time =)

When 10 people have been elected. They got a delay of 7 days to create a script which is :
-Failsafe !!!!
-useing SRL (very important)
-sturdy
-Safe (antiban + randoms)
-useing DTMs

And all of the stuff above (see section 2).

4) The voting.

7 days passed. We make a new thread where you can vote for your favorite script.
It will contain :
-Poll with the names of the 10 scripters.
-Scripts of the 10 scripters

YOU HAVE 7 DAYS NO MORE TO VOTE !

You vote for the one you think should be the best (script eh, not scripter ;)).

5) The results.

We read the votes (they rate 0.5 each).
We grade the candidates on :
-Use of SRL (/15)
-Failsafes(/15)
-Walking, use of minimap (/15)
-Anti Ban and Randoms (/15)
-How long the script runs(/15)
-Script look (too short, standarts, too long, unnecessary stuff) (/15)
-Votes (/10) (So if you get 20 votes, then you get 10 points more :)).

After a debate between the judges.
1-7 day(s) later, the judges EDIT the voting thread and post the results.
The winner gets really motivated to get SRL Members and the others learn from the winner's script.

RULES :
-NO COPYING ! DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING FROM SOMEONE ELSE !!!
-Do not vote for your friend just to be kind, try to find the "little extra" in the script you want to win, and vote for it.
-PLEASE , do not participate with a "hello world" script (TOTAL BEGINNER SCRIPT) here
-No corrupting between candidates and judges eh ? ;)

Judge's rules :
-You GOT to be neutral.
-Do not unnecessarily vote for a candidate in the graded stuff if you don't think its worth it.
-You have to at least TEST the script for 15 minutes on an account.

If you approve post why.
If you don't, don't post !

It doesn't even matter, hounestly. In the real competitions I always get beaten by Devs and Admins or really good scripters. SRL Competition section is in the public section if it was to be members, we could just have moved it :)

This is a very good idea, as I know it is VERY hard to compete against such good people. I believe this should be looked into. You have my vote :)

No its just that some of us at least want to have a CHANCE of beating others at scripting. Which is almost TOTALLY impossible in the normal competitions.

NOTE : I am childish and hate to loose, well not hate but lets say : I prefer to win XD.

Yeah I now agree, maybe there should be a competition for every rank SRL Junior +, so we dont always get pwned by Nielsie, The Claw and Raymond e.t.c..

A Srl member > judge?

This is a good idea. Maybe we filter out autotalkers? I don't know it needs refining but a good core idea.

Yeah a SRL Member could be a Judge, if he's neutral, of course.

Well Autotalkers are kind of "Hello World" Scripts…
Not hard to do one…

What you want to get for one of these competitions is something that stands out between the others.

May it be more original, more effective, safer… Well you get me :p

But all ppl who spammed to JR Membs will post crap scripts which won't even compile and we need someone to test that. Thats a BIG problem :/

And yeah could be good if we had a comp for each JR Memb + rank so that its a little bit more fair…

What i've read in competitions, its often admins, devs, mods who win :/

UnOfficial shouldn't be bad but you should create standrads, like you need to know basic function or something..

-use of color finding
-radial walk
-symbols on minimap
-Inventory.scar <- how to use.
-Failsafes (LOOOOL R1CH4 FTW!!!)
-some else i guess ? :p

Loool heey :p Haven't seen you on msn lately, I've been working on the script, almost done with my part !!! ;) Just a little more and we'll be done with the base of the script.
Then some perfectioning, fixing, clearing,failsafing and such and we'll be done :D.

I'd participate. I'm a bit rusty on my script making, and wouldn't mind something to get it back in shape like a competition. Always did like competitions :P.

I hope some highly placed person looks at this and approves it :rolleyes: lol.

:S I would've liked to get the reason of the guy who didn't like the idea…

Not to mention this would get people motivated and try to learn from their mistakes. Good practice, Fun, and more importantly- to get a little respect :D.

I know… Official competitions are dead (due to Starblaster100's quit :/ still don't know why he tried to make chaos on forums….) so the chances of this getting real are a little lower :( Maybe someone else can drive the Competitionzzz ?

I totally agree, this could be a motivation for those who want to stay on the forum, but just don't want to learn radial walking to become a SRL member (me) lol.

This sounds great, I think it would be awesome, because the competitions could specialise in just the things that junior members need to learn to become SRL members.

EDIT : If you agree, don't forget to tell your friends (if you got any) or some higher ranked people to look into this. This COULD get real and if you really support, you'll want this to happen, so you'll want a ranked person to look into this.

This would be alot of a challenge, and a fun activity (to compete with others in scripting.)

This would be a great idea. It would allow juniors to 'duke it out' and sharpen their skills and also allow Members to see some up and coming members. Hope this works out!!

very insightful idea when i become a junior member i would seriously considering entering once i get the hang of scripting

I think it could be a good idea, or at least a good way to motivate some more people to get off the a$$ and learn to script, or atleast some basics.

good idea. There is no way a juior can compete with the devs and mods. would also give other juniors ideas on what they can do with scripting as some stuff the mods do is too advanced. gr8 idea!:D

i think this is a very good idea. competition between junior members will make you want to learn better. but i disagree with the judging standards. i think the things on which you are judged should be the same as the SRL Competition and i think that a 100/100 script would be one that would get SRL members with 0 no votes. and a possible prize, could be SRL-Membership and a competition winner cup. something like that. would of course have to consider that if all the scripts end up being crappy the person doesn't really deserve to get members as prize. but it's an idea

I've been doing computer programming throughout high school, so hopefully I'll get good enough at scripting to participate.

Darn it I got SRL Members people… Sorry, well you shouldn't care ;) Just I won't be able to participate xD.

depends on how successful this one is :p and of course everyone has to make the same script so that everyone can be judged the same way ;)

Good point lol. I shoulda seen that one.. I want that competition cup!!
I dont know if I should put work into my yew chop and bank and probably get mems with that, or if I should make the miner and have a smaller chance of getting mems but then I'd get the cup.. So hard to choose!! This makes me waste more time thinking about it that I would have probably had it done already… Darn..:p
