Scar Scripts Database v.1.0

I couldn't sleep so I put together a database using flash/php/mysql.
Arg you can't embed flash, here's a link. http://www.lethalplay.com/scar/ssd.html
I added a couple random scripts just to show how it works. Maybe people will find this more useful than looking through topics? IDK. I'd like to add a few features but this was just for fun, and unless people find it useful, I don't plan on updating it anytime soon.

So, what is it?
A mysql database of SCAR scripts sorted out via flash. Below is a form where you can add your own scripts. Simple, and sexy. Until I can find away around importing text in flash via php, to submit a script, you give it's name, .scar name, description, and upload the script. I purposely left the script field in the form for when I do add the option to see the scripts.

Version 1.1
I just added categories. You can now sort through the scripts. I'm pretty sure everything's working, I haven't had enough people use it to know for sure. 8:47am, time for bed. :spot:

Screenshot:

Future Updates:
  • Rating system
  • Script uploading within the flash document not from an html form.
  • Scar syntax
  • User options to manage uploaded scripts via flash.

wow, as soon as i saw the title i started planning out my own, then i realized that this is very close to what i was thinking :p. Only problem i can see is it screws up your lines of code.

Well done, although this would promote leeching of scripts.

Anyone can access it, anyone can add any script.

That's true, but I could also make an "SRL Members" script tab that only SMs can access and view the members scripts. Just an idea.

Do that. Because right now your leaking junior scripts

i don't really like this idea of a database… it seems like it would cause so many leechers which is not good because srl would fall through if too many leechers joined, plus iBot has this kind of thing(its just on their website) and it doesn't seem to get updated very often and i think the same would happen here

Lol, ya well, I can think of a way or two to avoid that. Your sig actually made me rub my screen trying to get the bug off :duh:

Like I said before, it wouldn't be hard to include password protection only accessible by "SRL Members". Also, if people actually like the idea of a flash database for scripts, it's possible people can easily update/remove anything they've added to the db.

it is easy… just nobody does it cuz they are too lazy to post at two places…eventually the password would be leaked… unless you used the same passwords that go with everyones account here, then i could see this working(but you would have to team up with the admins for that!)

i honestly dont see how this is going to promote leechers. The only annoying bit is that it only has scripts that people add, and it needs categories.

and for the password thing. leeking a password there is no different from someone leeking their own pasword here. Stop complaining about how a perfectly good idea is bad, and start trying to suggest how to make it better.

If I were to take that route, I think the easiest thing to do would to get srl members to register via my user database using their srl forum names. They would then use that username/password to access the members scripts. Then I could just validate the account by checking to see if they're actually an "SRL Member". That's sort of a timely solution but it would work. I'm personally not worried about leaching or anything like that, I liked the thought of the scripts being accessible to anyone. But I definitely understand where you coming from.

Regardless of leakage, I think its a nice looking project :)

    But leaking is a problem…

Thats a really good idea. Maybe it could get embedded into the actual site somehow, with a little bit of teaming up with the admins =P

You should give it a login and have it access the SRL-forums user database, and determine which scripts you are allowed to access, though you may have to get permission and info from some higher-ups to do so.

the problem with having "srl members" sign up there is that some friggin' leecher will try to sign up as some members username… thus giving them access to all scripts… i go with lordsaturn, where you hook up with the database at srl so that that ^ doesn't happen.

Ya I think that would be the best thing to do, right now I'm ripping it apart trying to get to do something so simple. Im sure there's a " instead of a ' somewhere around here.

Wats with one one space inbtween each line ? that needs to be fixed i think, also the scary Sytax highlighting would be nice :O

That has something to do with the way flash imports it from php, that's also the reason for the text being cut off in the dynamic text box. Some of the special characters used in the scripts are making it cut off. Once I get that working it will be using the scar syntax. Until then I've came up with an alternative.

this is just what srl needs. i've always wanted a easier to use script finder

    Dan Cardin

    2008-11-07 16:26:11

Hmmm…ive had an idea. If you were to make it automatically get the scripts from srl, then wouldn't it only getbscripts that the user can access regardless, since srl requires you to be logged on. So then it should only show you the scripts that you'd be able access on the site anyway.

You could also just give them the link to the forums.

you could just post different versions in the different sections…members+ get members scripts and below, jr members jr member scripts and below, so on..

If you're talking to me, I do give the link to the forums once you upload a script.

That would be a pretty easy solution, I might do that.
