[Discussion]Reporting other Autoers - Right or Wrong?

Well, this is a question I've been asking myself recently.
I have botted in the World of Warcraft scene for quite a while now, and the general rule there, no matter what you do, is "never report other botters". However, I don't know what the case is here. So, I want your opinions :P
What do you think about the subject?
My personal view: If I notice someone is autoing, I will report them UNLESS I know they are autoing from my own experiences, or if they actually do something to disguise the fact that they are autoing. In that case, I usually try talking to them until they reply, and then speak to them about it :)
However, Mr. Level 3 Default Character Chopping Yews has a banhammer coming his way, as in communities like this, those are the things that bring our downfall.
So, post your opinion, and if there is a rule for reporting people then please tell me about it.
Edit: Made it sound like I reported everyone I see, that is not the case.

Personally, I never report them.

I don't report them, even if they're default clothes level 3.
Always seemed selfish…"Ill report you for botting, but I'll carry on botting myself".

Exactly. If I were botting as a level 3 default then I think it'd be selfish. However, when members of the botting scene try and keep theirselves hidden so scripts don't get detected as easily and such, people like that really annoy me.
The only thing I always ignore and acknowledge at the same time though, is that by reporting them, JAGeX could always look into the actions they were performing, and if they were using some form of SRL-Members script then that could be fixed. Again, this is unlikely if the script is good enough, but still..
That's my opinion. Also, incoming post edit. I phrased it wrong.

I report the people that deserve to be reported. Like people that are VERY obviously using a bot, or are lvl 3 running around botting.
But if I see someone using the same script as me (easily found if you don't change the auto-responder responses) I usually leave them alone.

Well a little while back during the RSdemon days we had a "bot catcher" script that most of us used to report all of them.
If I see a default level 3 then yes I'm going to report them. Plain and simple, you should NOT be autoing like that.
MineOrChop
2008-10-29 19:14:12
The ones I ALWAYS report despite my reply up there, are level 3 defs, with a username like "aws8uihdfjsfs2". Quite clearly they do not respect the art of botting in the sense that SRL members and users do.
Fair?

For a moment there I thought that I was the only one who ever reported anyone, don't wanna build up hate in a community like this :<

I'll be perfectly honest here; I really don't see why people do that.
EDIT: Create default chars, not report others ^^'

If they were a lvl 3 P.O.S. Char that they make just for money nothing else with a name like cake491732 or Dad7163ha or something like that… i'll report them but if they're a higher lvl trying to lvl something they may not have much time to do i'd say let them auto. Skillers for me depend aslong as they're nice not jerks if you can actually talk to them, and then one day see them auto i would let him be, but for those who only want money money money no i'd report.

When's the last time you all have seen a Lvl 3 default clothes botter with a random name? >_< Ever since the RWT updates in like January I've never seen one.
I report all of them that I see, UNLESS I only see it because I auto myself :)

I never really see any yew bots anymore. Or anything like that, btw.
However, I do generally report people for macroing if they are suspicious, and if they don't respond to questions I ask.

If i wouldn't be lazy report them! Why? They fail at making a stealth script they fail using SRL good if they don't use SRL, they Fail.
This will learn them next time to make it more flawless and stealth :)

If you are obviously botting, I report. Most of the time, I can tell who's botting and who's not. If they are (pretty well) invisible to the normal player, I ignore them as well =)

I report level three's cos I dont see the point.
Level 3's simply highlight how much autoing goes on and makes it harded on the ones who know how NOT to get caught.

I report if I can tell ;).
Like almost everyone else here I have kept with the etiquette of reporting all of the level 3 defaults from the old school days with RSD. Why would anybody have default clothes and bot I have no clue. I mean there is even a randomize appearance button now on the character creator.

But, if they WEREN'T careful enough to do so, report them.

I believe that "script kiddies" should definitly be reported.
What are script kiddies? They tend to be little kids (or morons :)) that run around, leach scripts, and simply abuse them. Quite simply, by doing such, they disrespect the community and effort that has been put into the scripts. Also, the sooner they are banned, the less data Jagex will have to pull off of them about.
Who falls into this category? The people that make it obvious that they are botting. Now, I'm not talking about the ones that I can spot out, but rather the botters that an everyday player could spot out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a script kiddie basically someone who considers themself to be a hacker but can't create their own tools to do things with..?
Secondly, you have a really good point there. :)
TViYH
2008-11-06 07:10:05
Yes, to your first point.
They can't create their own scripts (or they don't want to learn), and leech it. Then they abuse it by not setting up their player's combat correctly.

I'll always report a bot, regardless. If you script is bad enough that I can tell you are autoing then you haven't worked hard enough.
Besides that, the less bots there are, the higher the price I get on my goods. I don't know if it is morally the right thing to do, but it economically the right thing to do :D.

This shows that they did not take the time to properly set up an army, and deserves to be banned(I mean c'mon, how hard is it to press "random" when you create your character?:)). That is just my point of view. Auto right or get banned.

Sometimes it is okay to report other autoers, if all they do is auto from 3 because they should play Runescape by them selves and get their own levels up.
