Hey dudes,
Just wondering what SCAR + SMART require for CPU power.
I'm running a P4 processor OC'd to 2.9Ghz and I can barely squeeze out 3 SMARTS. (Using Tarajunky's Chickenkiller)
I want to get a new computer for STRAIGHT autoing, but I was wondering if a faster Duo would beat a slower Quad
eg.. the Wolfdale 3 Ghz (x 2) vs q6600 (2.4 Ghz x 4)
Anybody have an idea?

As far as I know SCAR will only use one core at a time, but if you can use 2 smarts per core on a quad-core, it'll probably be better than 3 smarts per core on a dual-core.
But me and my crappy 2GHz single-core can hardly run one >.<

Scar actually has threading capabilities, but it isn't used at all so pretty much it is limited to a single core. That said, I haven't seen a system yet that couldn't run a SMART + SCAR combo.

Take a look at my 6 year old machine that I used until a month ago :p

Mine's 7 years old, but I think he's saying he wants to be able to auto on as many SMARTs as possible at once, for which the quad-core would be better.

I was talking about what bober said.

Sorry for the double post, but I need a bump ;).
How much ram should I have if I plan on running 8-12 SMARTS? (2-3 per core)?
Would 3Gb suffice? (I think I want to stay 32 bit, I hear [maybe falsely] that SCAR doesn't like 64 bit)

i dont see why scar would have issues with 64 bit. i only have 2Gig of ram and i can run 4 smarts at a time. on a 3.20 Single core processor
8-12 is a large number you might wanna think more realistic and go like 6 if you dont wanna destroy your pc within a year

Making your computer do something vs having it sit idle won't do anything to it.
As for the amount of ram needed. SMART uses about 22mb of ram while SCAR uses about 100 MB. So 122 per Smart/Scar instance. 2Gb will be pushing it, so I would suggest at least 4.

Yeah I'm getting a small mobo, so I only have 2 ram slots, I'll probably just stick in 2 x 2Gb sticks and see whats happens.
EDIT: Oh yeah, another reason to stick with 32 bit, is because TinyXP Beast Edition doesn't support 64 bit.

Q6600 is able for me to run at least 12, that is at stock. Only got 2gb of RAM, but still got 15% CPU left, so for me it's a RAM issue. With more RAM, and if you overclock, I'm sure you'll be able to get at least 16.
