I just bought Visual Basic 6 for Dummies so I cannot wait to learn it!

It seems somewhat similar to Delphi. I decided to go with VB because I love learning new languages and Delphi isn't popular enough.

I'll start reading it soon and post a review!

What do you guys like about VB?

How much did it cost? And is 6 the same as 2008?

I'm pretty sure 6 is 2008. When I was at Books-a-million I texted ChaCha (a text message answers company) and they said that the latest VB is 2008/6. I sure hope so ;)

6 is NOT 2008. in fact, they are very different. 6 is from 1999, VB 2008 is from 2008. in about 2002 the .NET platform was released which is what 2008 is based off of.

If they sold it to you on the premise that 6 is 2008 then you need to get your money back, as that is an outright lie.

(VB 6 was one of the first languages I learned, I tried to go straight to VB.NET but was too new of a programmer and hence found it too hard to do. They are different enough that a book for VB6 won't do a lot for a VB.NET programmer. VB 6 support ended in 2005, so it isn't even supported by microsoft anymore.)

SHIT!

That would explain the 1998 copyright date and saying it was for windows 98 + 95. OMG this is prolly one of the stupidest decisions I've made in a looong time. :duh:

F***ing ChaCha! Lol

I'll try to return it. Why would they have a 9 year old programming book? Thats sooo stupid.

EDIT: I'm going back to C++ :)

2008 is .NET, 6 is just plain old VB.

I love all of them, personally. I like the code snippets, etc.

It's not overrated. It's underrated. Everyone says how terrible it is, when actually it's a very nice programming..err..program. Very simple to use!

I dont like much of it all, Vb , Delphi , its all making a program in another program, if you what to be a real programer you need to learn Machine code ect.. Vb , and Delphi are nice and simple to use but not much skill is required imo, the people who write Delphi ect.. are Top programs ( But freddy is awesome 2 :p).

VB 6.0 is WAY different than VB 2008. Read up on it online and you will find out.
