Script Rules Clarified.

The SRL Staff has clarified the script rules.
There are no new rules, they are just all declared and made clear on one thread.

Script Rules.
We do NOT:
  • obfuscate our scripts, we do not encrypt them. You are free to do so, but you are not allowed to post a reference to it on SRL.
  • use default stats accounts. This has been discussed before, and it is not allowed.
  • terminate scripts if Stats accounts are not filled in. You post a script, some people will leech it, others will post reports. It's a simple as that. Without SRL-Stats you wouldn't even add this kind of stuff to your script. (No Anti-Leech system)
  • log IP's, or any RuneScape account details.
  • open web pages that contain no use full addition to the script. And unless you can come up with a real good reason, I suggest you don't use it at all. Opening Web Pages that are used for ads, etc. are not allowed.
  • hide any code from the human eye, we do NOT space it to the right. We have nothing to hide.

If you don't follow these rules, you will be corrected, and infraction or other punishments will follow.

The Staff is also aware that some of you might not have been aware of certain rules, and therefore give the scripters some time to adjust their scripts.

Thanks for this i will need to remove a AntiLeach on my willow chopper..

is this ok?

If SrlStatsUser = '' then
//Open SRL STATS PAGE HERE
writeln('You did not use stats , the script will still run but i advise you sign up to stats');

Like just pointing them in the right derection to sign up?

I disagree on this point:

Shouldn't it be the script creators own descision?

I think we should be able to do the kind of thing that nicbaz was talking about.
Good call on the obfuscation, we learned about that from MOB the hard way…

I think we should be allowed to use Anti-Leech.

All of the other rules are great.

Instead of terminating, making a endless loop?

I guess im not gonna release my script after all…..

That's a stupid reason to not release a script. But it is your script…

Love these new rules.

I don't like the rules against anti-leeching but admit they make complete sense. All the other rules are great thanks for the clarification.

I believe it should be the creators desition as well. I have never personally used one (Anti-Leech system), but I think there should be an option.

I agree on all the rules. If you are a diva, and don't feel like releasing a script because people leech it then it's YOUR call.

I can't really understand why, though.

And if you want to post anti-leech-scripts, Sythe might not be the best place either :)

I think these rules are great; SRL is an open and friendly community. Our scripts should be also.

well how about just release to srl members only…
since the anti-leech thingy?

hmm good idea since most srl members got srl id/p.w
we should do that.

TViYH

2008-09-30 17:52:07

SRL doesn't revolve around SRL Members.

It revolves around the SRL Community.

NiCbaZ

p1nky's saying that we will only release our scripts to SRL members section now.

Why don't you get members?

voice i have notice you like to argue alot…. for real stop that. first that ss thread now here :S?

okay and leechers harm us by not telling us bugs/proggies. and its there fault they dont learn how to script, its okay to stay as a leecher at a point. we were all, and idk if you script but its hard work.

TViYH

2008-09-30 19:02:06

No, you released the script. They had to earn the right to get to Junior Members to get the scripts, and now you're taking the right to get scripts at all away?

EDIT: I argue because a lot of the stuff on here is nonsense posted by 8 year old control freaks. This is a scripting community, not a "I'm King, you're a peasant, you get none of my gold," community.

EDIT2: Not only are they control freaks, but they know everything about SRL. All of the procedures, functions, booleans, integers, etc. That's why they created SRL. They also know everything about all dimensions of computer programming.

I think the rules are fine, even though I'd rather not have the anti-leech thing. SRL Stats don't mean much really, so I wouldn't care if people used a script of mine without SRL Stats. However, I would care if they don't post proggies and bugs/suggestions, but there's no way to force that.

But didn't Fakawi say somewhere that this is a non-leecher community?

Then again I think Dankness said something about 'We don't want people to think that their accounts passwords might be stolen since SRL Stats has to connect to the web'.

Hmmm

Whew! Thanks Wizzy! I didn't know about the anti-leech thing. I don't like the idea of it, but, then again, I can't get everything I want!

Honestly about moving scripts too Member section… Its our choice, and there is downsides too it. 1 - It doesn't get used as much. 2 - You don't get nearly as many proggies.

So if Joker (aka pinky) wants to move his script(s) to Member section that's his choice.

Yes Voice, please stop arguing for your standpoint!
Kidding.
I believe Voice is allowed to argue, and furthermore - he is right.
Pinky/Joker. You want people to use your script, post proggies and use SRL Stats.
What difference is there; Anti-leech your scripts so leechers can't use it (No proggies or Stats) or have them free for all (People use it, maybe a few proggies and Stats).
Scripts without anti-leech: Leechers gain, you have a chance to gain.
Scripts with anti-leech: Leechers lose, you lose.

I, for example, never use SRL Stats, but I post proggies.
Now, go ahead and make a choice.

GG having it approved by a mod and finding anyone who cares about SCAR enough to pay for a script there..

Lots.

You remember RSDemon? Aryan? Great bots, but abused heavily by leechers. All good bots/scripts get abused by leechers once they get their hands on them, after that, Jagex starts to notice them, and begins nerfing things down and down.
They will start to improve their detection schemes, due to pressure of the legits. They will stop doing good updates, and will do updates that cause more harm than good. And the good method of getting gp/xp will be patched. Boom, leechers start crying, and noone's happy anymore, including you.

Just to remind, we code hours for 1 script, it takes 30 secs to register and 30 secs to memorize the user and pass. Me silly I forgot the 10 secs to fill in on every script!
