"Official" Rules for Scripts.

Wizzup?

I get sick of people adding 'default stats accounts' or 'obfuscating' their scripts.
This is all not allowed, but because there is no 'official' rule set, people just ignore these rules.

Script Rules:
  • We do NOT obfuscate our scripts, we do not encrypt them. You are free to do so, but you are not allowed to post any reference to it on SRL.
  • We do NOT use default stats accounts. This has been discussed before, and it is not allowed.
  • We do NOT terminate scripts if Stats accounts are not filled in. You post a script, people will leech it. It's a simple as that. Without SRL-Stats you wouldn't even add this kind of stuff to your script. (No Anti-Leech system)
  • We do NOT log IP's, or any RuneScape account details.
  • We do NOT open web pages that contain no use full addition to the script. And unless you can come up with a real good reason, I suggest you don't use it at all. Opening Web Pages that are used for ads, etc. are not allowed.
  • We do NOT hide any code from the human eye, we do NOT space it to the right. We have nothing to hide.

Any additions, comments. Post.

Make an exception for advertising in signatures?

Anyways, sounds good to me. I fucking hate all of those noobs who have to obfuscate their scripts. Haven't seen any SSRL+ obfuscating their scripts, and I think I'm on the safe side when I say that all SSRL's know shit about scripting.

Good, can we make these part of the official rules and infract people for them?

Yes. Nielsie and I are going to make a new rule set for the entire forum soon, hopefully.

Well in _one_ of my scripts I have the TerminateScript thing w/o a SRL id. But its not obfuscated or hidden. Its very easy to find and remove. And I've stopped working on it anyways.

Will I get in trouble for that?

Just take it out so no one has to deal with it.

Yeah but I'm not updating the script anymore… I'll just post how to remove it. Because my plans are to let the thread die at some point.

I think these rules are good.
I hate obfuscated scripts… Its such a waste of knowledge.

Edit: When did we have a problem with logged IPs?

Yeah, lol. I just think its a cool idea (for script creators and users) to accurately record how much each script gets used, thats all

How about a rule about hiding certain lines by pushing them off the SCAR's main window screen :| (Mostly used in scripts that steal passwords)

It's not the same as obfuscating, so I think it deserves it's own rule :P

Plus, if you push them far enough with tab, no one is likely to ever find them.

Wizzup, add to the sticky that if the script does any actions that don't really fit in the picture, possibly asking for a permission to connect somewhere else than SRL stats, the .scar should be opened in notepad, then you will be able to see the tabbed code.

The user who made the script will get banned, instead.

Also, scripts that have "auto updating" features or "download news" or something, should be first checked by admins, or a certain group of people (new rank/team pl0x?), and then those versions will be posted, because in 99% of those "please allow script to connect because it's auto-update feature, or version checker" it turned out that script had code to send sensitive data to the 3rd party…

Hmm…. Yes… I don't know if this is feasible though, an auto update could auto update itself to contain harmful features, so once we've verified the script, it just updates itself to contain harmful features… I don't think we can easily do anything about this.

Ok just ban all decent scripts of SRL straight-away.

n3ss3s

2008-09-19 09:08:39

Hehe, people could just remove auto updating from scripts, the old fashion (attachment the new version) wasn't so bad…

What if the auto updating pointed to an SRL Script Approval Team controlled website?

have these been implemented anymore? Because i haven't seen them before although i had heard of some of them.

If it hasn't been posted up, i could work on it, (possibly with hobbit?), make a sticky / announcement in the scripting sections, maybe that infraction for scripts would be a good idea.

I suggest we give like a month's time for people to change their crrent scripts which do not obey all the rules, and in the mean time SSRL can give out some warnings (if we get the infraction thingy) to those scripts which do not obey the rules.

I would however consider connecting to a website to pst a proggie to be a good use. About auto updating… i don't really find it necessary. Maybe discuss auto - updating / checking for updates a bit more.

I thought pretty much everyone kept to this rules.
If not, kindly redirect them to this thread. If they refuse to change, just hand out a nice infraction and temporarily remove the script, perhaps.

New infraction level added :)

Also Wizzup?, this is an SSRL thread… I thin RM is right, I don't think this every went public… More just hearsay probably.

I think we should make a thread/announcement so that it is ironclad.

I am about to make the post, i'll make the "deadline" for enforcing these rules to be on the 20 of February (bit more than two weeks). We've lived this far without these rules being enforced, i don-t think that time will kill us, and that'll give time for all th scripters to see it and get round to modifying their scripts.

One question. Posting progress reports, is it acceptable?

You said that leeching is normal, just wondering what our policy will be on proggies as it is a big turndown when we don't get any proggies but know the script has been used lately.

edit: http://www.srl-forums.com/forum/announcement.php?f=109

made one in JM and one in SRL Members scripts, didn't know how to do it simultaniously on both without making it on the whole forums :p

I though these were implemented ages ago. I've been telling people that terminating the script if no SRL Stats are added was against the rules for the last couple of months.

Narcle

2009-02-03 09:56:25

I'm seeing default stats way more. The terminate script isn't as predominant so instead they put in default stats…

The Claw

2009-02-03 10:21:11

Wizzup made a post saying they were banned, if I recall correctly, but there was no official post made about the things we decided here. Yet another thing we've discussed but forgot, like the buying and selling forum

n3ss3s

Posting progress reports is ALLOWED, because there are three options -

  1. A person who either did, or didn't, will post "nice" or something similar. People who do this to gain the Jr Member rank we will infract for 3 points.
  2. A person who ran the script has something to say about it, an improvement or a bug report.
  3. A person who tried it has a progress report.

The last two are acceptable, the whole point of macroing other than freeing you from doing the tasks yourself, is that you don't have to be there while whatever the script is doing is happening. It's hard to give a bug report when you don't know what's happening, so when you wake up in the morning and the script had some kind of failsafes, you will find yourself logged out of RuneScape and a ready to be posted progress report :)

sorry, my bad. I actually meant posting them to an outside website, through the script. not the person actually physically doing it.

edit: fixed the bullet points on the one in Rules forum.
