Concerning Star...

Well, my opinion of Star has, and always will be, one of utmost respect. As such, I'd like to post my defense of him.

Fakawi, in this thread, you asked for an explanation. You've probably seen it, but I'd say the following link has most of the answers.

http://www.villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34714

I think it's pretty simple. Star got fed up with a number of problems in our community, and out of frustration and lack of anything else he could do, set about changing things the hard way. No, it wasn't a very wise decision, but hopefully his sacrifice won't have been in vain. I strongly urge you to evaluate his suggestions, make a timeline for changes, whatever you need to do. The scary part is this: every single one of his points is at least partially valid! Things need to change! We need to adapt! I could go into specifics, but he's already done a pretty good job of it.

Admins & mods - again, I urge you to please make some changes. Whether it's appointing new staff, writing new homepage & 'ethics', or just reverting the tutorial island until it's 'finished', this community won't stand if it doesn't have direction. In the recent months, Jagex has dealt hard blows to all of RS cheating, causing many to quit. We now find our community dangerously unstable. But there is hope. Right now, just coming out of an all time low for RS cheating is a great opportunity to mold the community into an even stronger, more closely knit force with a solid sense of direction. For the first time in a long time, you have a chance to bring change to SRL that will elevate our community to never before seen heights! Yet, I fear if we do not take advantage of the current situation, SRL will crumble into oblivion. (At least we'll have a chapter in the Lil Black Book of RS Cheating, should someone ever rewrite it :))

I'll post a thread tomorrow for brainstorming ideas; please don't post ideas here. Lets try to keep this thread focused on Star.

Ya, the thread in the members forum was a big fluke. Star did bring up several good points. All though it would have been better if he had been more mature about it instead of cussing everyone out. You said to stay focused on Star, but what are we supposed to talk about?

Not really sure..

This was more of a PM to the admins w/ the convenience of sharing my opinion with everyone else at the same time than a discussion. :p

Like Bob said… think if he was mature about it instead of flaming everyone maybe his points would be taken more serious.

From my point of view, it looked like a large venting pool for him to let off steam… not exactly the best way to go at it imo.

I understand some of his points. But I do know this, its hard to shape a potted clay when its already been fired (hardened).

It would have been better if he came up with the points.

Star was a mod, admin, dev. If he had a problem with ANYTHING, he had the power to change it.

Why is he bashing Hobbit, when Hobbit is the only mod that has shown any initiative to try to make the forums a better place?

Star sits on his butt, and then when Hobbit tries to make improvements, he logs onto another username and bashes him. What a child he is.

Star has nothing to complain about, as far as I'm concerned. I don't remember him being overruled by other Devs or Admins on any of the 'problems' he points out. He never showed an interest in changing any of it himself, or any interest at all until now. I think the Dev team gets along great, and we don't keep each other on a short leash. Sure, if someone accidentally breaks SRL with a change, we will correct it and have a discussion about how it needs to be, but there's no heavy handed crap going on behind the scenes like on many forums.

AFAIK Star did not bring up any such points in staff section. Only when daniel.blaze surfaces did they come out.

Star and I have never gotten along. I do not know why but he has always been very rude to me so I, in defense, also become rude to him. He has been very hurtful to me over the past few years. I think Stars arterial motive was to get pay back because he was upset I became admin. So he started bashing me and making my life hell, probably until i had enough and left. It almost worked. I think this because the day I became admin, Daniel.Blaze popped up and immediately flamed me.

We'll only know if he tells (one of) us.

Sorry. Missed this one. Do you really think SRL is unstructured? I disagree. Is there instability? Disagree too. Are SRL and the forum becoming complex? Yes I Agree on that point. But I didnt think Star made really good suggestions. We dont prune, we dont ban, we keep those things the way they are. Star has lost my respect. What a child he was, indeed tara, well said.

Smartz, if you'd hand out some suggestions concerning new ethics I will try to implement those…or maybe discuss first? 0_o

But, alas as Dankness has vanished of the earth's surface, I am unable to mod anything PHP related. I can do admin changes, luckily Wizz, Fly and me are god around here, but I cant do anything mayor like restructuring. I tried contacting Dank to take over hosting, but no luck so far…

Starblaster I like you, But if your serious don't make it a game. ;)
I'm going to agree with starblaster though, I think it's wrong you guys reject Kyab and when SMART comes around everyone is like oh ok we can use this… no big deal. now everyone is just scripting this reflection in SCAR.

A few things i want to point out.
- Everyone has different opinions, I don't think we should just go on the devs and the admins opinions. This includes punishments… for example i think there should have been a poll on starblaster's punishment. So everyone can state there opinions ect.

- We need to stick with who we are and change what we got. If we don't support reflection because it's like "hacking" then we need stick with that.

- You can't Always get what you want, but if you try, You get what you need. people might not agree with one another but you guys should make things satisfying for each other whether it may not be exactly what you want.

Anyway, I just think you guys shouldn't be dictators and be more with the people (Democracy).

alright enough said… Just remember there is always enough room for change.

My honest opinion, I think it was a bad Game of chess for Starblaster100. But i think he should be granted his admin status once more.
I think he just didn't play the game right. If he's stating an opinion all he wants is to be heard and maybe everything might change to satisfy him.
If he really hated SRL, he would have left with no opinion.

No, giving us shit to think about is the perfect crime…

This includes punishments…

* Red rep button
* De-admin ("SRL Developer / Ex-Admin" status maybe…)

This is just my own personal opinion, but as I see it reflection has been forced on us by SMART supporting it. Benland calls the shots with SMART, and he wants it in there, so be it. We can't put the genie back in the bottle, and SMART is still extremely useful without reflection, so confronting Benland wouldn't be productive. And, of course, the Dev team is divided on supporting reflection, so we would never agree on confronting him in the first place.

I don't want it officially supported, but I don't feel so strongly about it that I'm going to throw a fit if someone else on the forums develops and uses that SMART functionality.

I tried out KYAB once upon a time, and it wasn't for me. But its failure wasn't our fault over here at SRL. Frankly, I don't understand why so many people are bent out of shape over it. And I certainly wouldn't stoop to creating a new account to flame the forums over allowing SMART reflection to be developed unofficially. That betrays trust in a way that can't be repaired.

We are living epic times. I just realized that Daniel.Blaze was a pretty contributing member at KYAB, StarBlaster secretly liked KYAB and maybe even a bit Solar, and scripted for it…

Wow, you sort of missed the picture. ;)
Starblaster was not complaining about our KYAB/SMART deal, in fact, he was against KYAB, and in favour of SMART.
What Starblaster did, was giving an account access to ALL the section on SRL, including the Administrators Section, Developers Section (which is not accessible to all Administrators) and some other forums. This is wrong.
It also happened that that specific account (Daniel.Blaze) started insulting half of SRL, and was generally very offensive. The account also shared several IP's with Starblaster. If it really was Starblaster or not, we might never find out. At least, not until Starblaster visits SRL again. He hasn't visited since a few days before we actually de-adminned him, so he might not even know. What Starblaster did was utterly wrong, give an account permission to view all the forums, and not informing other Administrators/Moderators.

This makes me sad. I've always looked up to SB.

However, this illustrates a point. Just because one has risen through the ranks of SCAR scripters does not make you a nice person.

a.k.a (Admin != Good person necessarily). Yakman has made this point to me many times. People often think: (these are Yakman's own words :p).

"OMG an admin! I must worship!".

When I showed up here, at SRL, the admins/mods/devs were my heroes. WT, Wizzy, Flyboy, Pyro, SB, phantombmx, all those guys. Now, I assumed that these guys were all good people, and as far as I know they still are.

Hell, my DREAM, the one thing I wanted, was dev or mod. (I still would love that ;))

I would have done anything to get that. I would've taken anything they said to heart, SB once told me a function of mine was good. It made my day. Admins to the everyman, or at least to me, were GODS.

Therefore they had a Godlike rep to uphold. And when you're just a normal person… that responsibility can get heavy. You have many, many people using your scripts, looking up to you, saying "I wanna be that guy. Hes so awesome." That can get stressful if you have some things to say but don't want to wreck your image.

MY POINT: We're only human guys. I've messed up, you've messed up, we'll all mess up again and again.

We all have our own stuff going on, SB was hit by a car and God knows what else is going on with him. I have sever depression, anger and social anxiety, I just strike out at places different than SRL, I could have done something like this. Obviously it wouldn't be such a big deal but you get my general idea.

I'm not excusing the flaming, the double accounts, I'm just saying somethings gotta give in a guy.

R.I.P Another RS Cheating hero. :(

its a different story at IRC, you dont get flooded by admierers there

when moparisthebest started getting flooded on msn, he stopped using it and just went on his IRC channel.
