You guys are the worst hypocrites ever! First there was the whole KYAB bashing because "we don't use our knowledge of Java". Now all this?!?!? You noobs are using reflection now after Ben and I made the first reflection subsytem for SCAR over a year ago?

Quite interesting how this worked out. Where are the flame wars now? The arguments? Seems quite accepted…

A bunch of ignorant idiots ridicule the concept of the usage of Java in order to read otherwise irretrievable information (KYAB) from the client purely because it goes against the "SRL philosophy".

Reflection has mainly been released because BenLand100 wanted to do so. He included it in Smart 3 1/3, and we did not want to bug BenLand100 further and ask him to totally remove it from Smart once again.
Furthermore, Smart is a plugin, unlike BenLand100's old program, KYAB.

Was waiting for this post to appear… Even though I never got into the "kyab" discussions.

But far as I know, the SRL Devs Have had very little involvement in the new reflection stuff, with a couple exceptions, like Benland of course. Majority has been SRL-Members that want to use reflection.

As far as I recall, the threads that got locked on this subject is because you were one of the guys who could not keep his offensive mouth shut when he had to, and went way too far in his posts.
Also, I have noticed that you never hesitate to bring up the Reflection and KYAB topics whenever you can, even in random script threads.

Pick up where? All the reflection that is made for Smart has been made by BenLand100, some SRL Developers, and the SRL Members who are now nicely maintaining the Reflection stuff. Nothing from KYAB whatsoever used. If you don't mind me saying so, the Walking routines in KYAB.scar weren't all that effective and stable…

I don't think he's saying the opposite. I don't think any of us say so. It's also not SRL's reflection, it is SMART's.

But may I ask why you are so involved in this discussion (in a negative way)? What do you want to achieve? Make your point.

Personally, I like reflection. I just don't use it in my scripts.

It might not be the most original idea yet, but it's effective, and does things that KYAB struggled with.

Wow, this is a pretty intense topic. I came here/started coming to cheating communities, right after KYAB died. I dont really know a whole lot about it, not even what it stands for :p, but chill Solar. What, do you want them to include you in the credit for making, no sorry, thinking about this for SRL? Chill… Every time I see a post form you, it's about KYAB.

You guys must admit that Solarwind has good points though. It seems that usually whatever most of the devs/admins agree with, most of the members agree with, and vice versa.

He I'm just giving my opinion on things, I think RSBot has more opportunities for me because java is a tad bit more up to date and KYAB well.. I was there a bit of the time and I was part of it's community and I didn't like the fact that a couple of admins and SRL mods were immature and didn't accept KYAB because Solarwind was head of the project.
And HEY! I'm not totally against SRL I mean I find it's community gret, much better than RSBot's or IBot's.However, because I'm not scripting for the geepees or stupid lvs and more to LEARN I decided to leave the scar scripting and go try java instead. nuff said'

I closed KYAB because I did not have the time to develop it because of school. If I do not get over a 93% overall average, I'm stuck with the rest of the idiots and can't chose the courses in university that I want. So you see, that's pretty tight. 93% average isn't easy. Not where I live. In fact, only two students from my entire school got above a 93% last year. Puts it into perspective. But I do know now everything that needs to be known on how to remake KYAB again, but lack the time. Too bad, isn't it? I don't do anything related to RS anymore either, just hang around the forums for fun.

And those of you who do not know me, please keep your professional annotations to yourselves.

@Admins, put a sock in it, I'm not trying to cause any fights. If certain forum members can't keep a discussion nice and cool, I think they would be the immature ones.

I didn't like the fact of some other program I had to run next to SCAR, plus it was just simply not (in my opinion) very well made, using sockets to pass data… But eventually a few KYAB sub-forums were made on SRL. You are either sadly mistaken or mislead, or both. I started the project. Clear? I asked BenLand for help on reflection when I was still a noob. He did most of the updater, but not the bot itself. I did that part. Then I made my own updater.

Now that we're clear on this, continue discussing. Also we had to use sockets because scar had no better way of doing IPC. Sad, really.

That's probably why KYAB died off, SMART and Reflection are available to anyone who visits SRL (Including leechers). But with KYAB one had to either get access to the forums here or sign up on the private ones. It was more than likely that KYAB would have taken off if it hadn't been hidden from the public. But seriously, Could it have been better than SMART or Reflection, IMO I very much doubt it.

And for the record, I like Reflection but I hate smart. It seems cumbersome to me. To have 3 Scars and 3 Smart's just to run 3 Bots.

In my opinion Solar has the right to be pissed.

He and Ben put a lot of effort into KYAB, but somewhy it divided the KYAB users and those who don't use KYAB. When Ben left the project, KYAB was totally pushed into side and people thought that they either have to leave SRL and just use KYAB, or be at SRL thinking, that they are somehow 'safe'.


There were KYAB sections at SRL, but they got removed soon. Posting a KYAB script into the scripts section just meant another thread getting closed, and everything was 'KYAB belongs to the KYAB forums.', which is right in terms of keeping forums organized, but maybe wrong in some other points of view. One can wonder what caused this, but it can't be changed anymore.

Atleast the part of the frontpage's statement,

we do not use our knowledge about the java code

should be changed.


The SRL include itself doesn't use reflection, but a big part of the community does, so 'The SRL include does not use reflection, but users can use SMART to, if they wish to.' would be correct.


Also, hating reflection. What does that mean? Does a reflection 'hater' hate that walking to a tile is just one line?

Think of it like this, after thinking through it couple of times I find it very true -

You aren't using reflection, and have built up a WalkToVarrock procedure to walk from Lumbridge to Varrock. When you call it in your mainloop, you just do WalkToVarrock. This is the point where you compare it to how easy it would be with reflection, but, you're wrong. You actually did a lot less than SmartGetFieldInt, with it's support procedures do. That's how I think.

Now, if you want to, you can say that you used RadialWalk, which nowadays also has lots of coding behind it, no offense to creators of the old one.

Solar, it's better that you chose to spend the time to school than a bot, and I hope you'll get over 93 average :)

Times change - Jagex essentially killed autoing for profit with armies by removing free-trading, so as autoing shifts towards autoing on a single character/main instead of multiple, scripts need to be much more reliable. Its fine running a slightly buggy script on an army of 6 overnight, as when one character fails theres always another to replace it. This isnt the case when running only 1 character, scripts NEED to be 100% flawless, and SMART with reflection caters for this. Of course its possible to have flawless walking without reflection, and you can continue to strive for this if you like, but reflection makes it much more accessible for the standard scripter - which makes it very useful, in times like these.

Furthermore, KYAB came out at a time when java bots (RSDemon among others) were running rampart and destroying RS, just like aryan did all those years ago. And because KYAB was also java, purely through association there were alot of people immediately agaisnt it, even though it didnt really contribute to the autoing problem that much. So basically people were already predisposed agaisnt KYAB from the very start, plus there was your attitude, solar, which didnt help things along

I'd just like to put a few points out here. solar, KYAB died because, as you said, you had no time and no one else at the forum knew how to do anything. It died because of so many empty promises.

As for reflection, Ben has had it in SMART for 3 months or so(I can't remember). As for the people wondering why, it's pretty much what Wizzup said. Ben doesn't ask, he does. As far as I know, the original idea of SMART came from Ben when he was "high"(not "drug-high" but just hyper…) and he made it, I believe showed it to Fakawi and released. SMART has been around for over 6 months. Towards a year I believe but I can't remember times at all. It was first released in Dev section. And it gradually made it's way down the line to Junior Member section. Then Ben put reflection in SMART. Just like that. But he purposely didn't do any hooks or do anything towards reflection, he wanted it all to be developed by the people who used it. And then he released it. Again starting up high, and trickling down. All of you wondering why it did come down is because as I said Ben does. He was openly talking about reflection in SMART in the IRC well before it was released. Some people knew, I for one. After it was released, it would be rather impossible to take it out and expect everyone to stop using it. It has also been fueled by many people developing reflection much more then when it was first released. For instance, if we declared right now. No more reflection. We would do exactly what solar did. Hive off, start a new forum, and keep going.

And solar, I think the reason that you got kicked out of here is not because the admins/devs didn't want reflection. I think it's because they didn't want you(note, I am not siding with this opinion, I find it rather immature). Most people around here dislike you(Starblaster for sure ;)) and when BenLand withdrew support from KYAB, they decided not to keep it around.

Finally, cheating advances. As Jagex develops their game. We need to develop new techniques to better progress our community that is aimed at getting everyone their precious stash of gold pixels(yes, many people script for fun, but mainly people join the forum to get gold). I am in no way saying color is obsolete. We have techniques that can find objects just as well as reflection(and it is funner as well, in my opinion :)). But some people want that extra security blanket. They want to be sure.

I'm just kinda bleh. I'll develop reflection so that people who want to use it can, because in these days, advanced techniques are not only recommended, but nearly essential as we strive to make more advanced scripts. Not trying to bash, but seriously who wants to make a nature crafter with color that is ~100% accurate.

And yes, it IS hypocrite, I'll be the last one to deny that, that's why I don't use it myself. I'm not against it however.

1. Still the same ol' ben. He initially wrote the functional part of the system, but after his updater broke (as most updaters do and even he needs to admit that), I had to write my own. So essentially, we both wrote it. This was (unfortunately) around the time that I started getting busy with school/exams so I was unable to continue my work.

2. I appreciate the humble apologies and sympathy I'm getting, but let me be clear that I did not come here seeking apologies or your regrets. I do not need it. None of you need to apologize to anyone here. We're just having a chat. It's also been a while since I have posted here. I miss my little red dot.

P.S.: Always take ben's words with a pinch of salt. He's sly and concise, but he's accurate no more no less.

Example: "I made the parts that worked"

I made - past tense (signifies that he initially wrote a certain part).
the parts - note the plural on parts (the bot consisted of several functions, he's saying he wrote not one, but a few; I agree)
that worked - technically, the entire bot was functional and "worked". This statement is technically inaccurate because he claims he wrote the parts that worked, meaning the entire bot. Incorrect. But I believe what he means is that he wrote the parts that were crucial and composed the core system. That is true (initially, note past tense). I then replaced it with my own work. So the message that he's trying to embed in his phrase is misleading. I started and I ended KYAB and did the majority of man-hours of work in between.

Also note: KYAB was still up and running after ben left. If I didn't write it, I would know nothing of it and couldn't have kept it up to date now could I? ;)

Yes KYAB practically invented the walk to point function and there is little difference between "smart" reflection and KYAB. Reflection is simply a Java API (application interface) to read and manipulate objects in Java classes/memory. That's all it is. We just use reflection to our advantage. Since runecape is written in Java, we can use Java's own refelction API to "read" values from the runescape game. For example, we read certain variables which tell us our X, Y coordinates and do some math to calculate where we have to click to go to any spot on the entire map. That's how it works.

Yes, I realize it wasn't cool how solar was sort of thrown out of SRL causing KYAB to die and now Ben adding it to SMART and all, but it happened like a year ago so it's kind of old news. I see that old KYAB people (I was too, just not too active) defend it and other people are sort of againts it.

I'm neutral about reflection though.. But it's not like the whole forums have "REFLECTION IS HERE!" written all over them.

You criticize him on the basis that he:
1. is overweight
2. has no friends
3. can not run

KYAB worked for about a month before it broke and Solar didn't have the skills or abilities to ever fix it so he put together a half-ass salvaged version left over from what BenLand gave him and the hooks that couldn't get messed up very easily.

He continuously lied to everyone claiming that KYAB still worked perfectly fine or was going to be fixed very soon to keep his dieing community running as long as possible in hope that BenLand would return to the project and save his ass or someone new would come along and solve all of his problems for him.

It's hard to know exactly why Solarwind has come here to bitch about what "SRL has done" with SMART and such, but my guess is either Solar wants some recognition for "coming up with this idea" or he just likes to complain and bitch as much as possible, or maybe it's completely different and has to do with personal feuds between Solar and SRL that should have been handled indifferently. Anyone defending Solarwind and KYAB is probably doing so for the same reasons as listed above.

Last summer you had a pretty good idea and starting something great but it ended up failing because you couldn't handle what you started for many reasons the main one being your personality and the second being you failure to ever truly fix KYAB after more than enough chances as I and many suggested to you over a period of 5-8 months.

Hahahaha, KYAB was not supported because Solar couldn't maintain it so anyone who wanted to use it would just be wasting their time with a broken piece of crap and a shitty support team.

SMART on the other hand is actually very useful and maintained well so we can actually depend and spend our time using it in our scripts and projects with out having to worry so much.

I don't understand why Solar made this thread, you had your chance your project was rejected not because it uses the same methods SMART uses but because it was never maintained well and wasn't very useful.

I hope you see you're all basically just complaining because you seek recognition and respect from everyone even though you don't really deserve it.

Perhaps if you fixed, maintined, and KYAB was useful, yet still rejected here from most people you would have *some* room to complain, but that is simply not the case…

If you want to look at it another way, power is only an illusion. Ben is an admin of this forum. So what? In real life what power does he have over me? What advantage? Intelligence similarily so. Some people think president bush is a smart guy. Little do they know that he's just a puppet. The lesson here, icefire, is that you can't see the whole picture if you don't open your eyes wide enough.

Bite me. If all you want to do is cause trouble, go somewhere else. Since reflection's use in client hacking was and always has been my idea, I think I have the right to do whatever I please with it. Furthermore, it should be painfully apparent that wherever you go you cause a controversy, which is possibly why SMART succeeded where KYAB failed. KYAB wasn't rejected because of what it did, KYAB was rejected because of bullshit like this, wake up and smell the roses, there is one major difference between KYAB and SMART, and it has nothing to do with code. At the moment, I have no sympathy for you since you are whining about "your" KYAB being rejected and SMART being accepted, and making the point that SRL is a bunch of hypocrites is simply pointless because KYAB and SMART are not the same thing.
