The most frequent request we have received over the last few months has been to put more PvP back into the game. We want to let you know that this request hasn't gone unheard, and that we've put a lot of research into how we can introduce new PvP mechanisms. The aim is for PvP content that better replaces the old Wilderness, but without reintroducing RWT.

Hopefully, you’re already aware of the imminent Clan Wars release (see the September Behind the Scenes in a couple of weeks for more information), but there are also plans afoot for the most exciting and "old school" PvP update we have ever considered – unique PvP worlds.

As many of our long term players know, in the old RuneScape Classic days you could actually fight players just outside the gates of Lumbridge, before the days of duelling and even before the days of the old Wilderness itself. Players could hunt each other down, chasing them away from favourite resource points and generally "owning" large areas of the map.

So, in 2008, we will be bringing you special 'PvP worlds', where you can fight other players almost anywhere! In addition to all the usual content you might expect to find in RuneScape, they will also include:

Optional sign-up – choose between PvP danger or stick to ordinary play by simply switching worlds.
High danger with items dropped on death.
High rewards for kills. To avoid any RWT issues the reward for a successful PK will be generated by the game, similar to when you kill a monster at the moment. We're creating generous drop tables based on factors like your levels and the impressiveness of the kill.
These drop tables will include "PvP world specific" items like XP-modifying gear, lvl 70+ equipment and new, glorious, short-term but hard hitting gear. These will once again make PKing a viable source of income.
PvP across 99% of the world, including the old Wilderness.
Attack any player within a certain level of your own. Level range depends on the area, similar to the old Wilderness levels.
…And all sorts of other twists on interesting content… Just think of the possibilities when you can PK anywhere!
Naturally, we also have other PvP-orientated content, like Stealing Creation (a resource control game where skillers and PKers work together, creating equipment and beating up the opposition) and Mobilising Armies (a real-time strategy game where you use your hard made bows, swords, etc. to equip your own armies in 4-player battles).

Add all this to a healthy schedule of quests (featuring Arrav and the sequel to Spirit of Summer), holiday events and some unique puzzle content… and the rest of '08 has something for almost everyone.

Finally, we'd like to let you in on a little secret – we're currently working on our highest level, longest, most exciting quest ever. Not necessarily for launch in '08 (it's not something we want to rush, after all), it’s already had more development time than the entirety of "Recipe for Disaster"… but you’ll have to wait to find out more. We're adding secret hints and references all the time about this one, so if you need to know more, just look around! Leave no stone unturned….

Wow, this sounds great. RS is actually starting to become a game somewhat comparable to WoW and everything (Notice the starting to :p). I wish I still had my old main :( Hopefully my plan of making a great autoing army that I can trade for a good main will work lol.

dude i bet that its gunna tun out like crap, remember fists of guthix before it came out? It had a huge hype because people thought that they we re going to bring back pking, and they made the worst mini-game ive ever played, so i dunno fingers crossed, but I'm expecting a dud. Especially if you can fight anywhere, how the hell are you going to get food? and if Jagex isn't making it so you drop your equipment, but instead they give you drops, depending on the impressiveness of the kill, like i dunno doesn't seem to be that awesome to me.

New PVP > BH.
Don't complain! Compared to Bounty Hunter this is going to be EPIC.
Honestly, there can't be anything WORSE than Bounty Hunter.

I read this today at work on the RS site and thought that it sounded pretty neat, just like the old days. But I am curious, it says that you lose your equipment, but the pker can not pick it up it sounds like, and instead they get some pretty neat items (though I do not understand the xp-boosting items, perhaps just fighting stats??), that sound right? And I am curious as to how they will implement the level restrictions through out the RS world.

Also these PvP only items will remain on PvP servers correct?

JaGex is still JaGex, and this update might turn out to be worse than the QuickChat update (*facepalms*), but don't be too pessimistic either, ANYTHING is better than BH.

Like Fist of Guthix has the Combat Robes, Berserker shields which need to be recharged to be at its max potential.
I think they gonna add new stuff as drop that you will be able to use to greatly boost your stats but are not permanent, maybe the items are good for 5 uses or something like that.

Sounds like a BIG MINI-GAME with it's own world imo.

No real world trading lol. People wud still have to use Bounty Hunter to trade

I told everyone that pking was going to come back only in a different way… but everyone told me it was long gone… :)

Think about this,even if the updated sucked(which i doubt it will because sounds amazing) Bounty hunter will be emptier,more people playing the new updated and less people focusing in bounty hunter,perfect time for a few mill trade :D

I just thought of something… if the drops are determined by the computer now. You can just kill a second player over and over and over and over and over and over and get lots of monies :) just use a proxy or unsigned or a second computer or something :p

I thought of that too. get your low lvl autoer to kill your high lvl main (With nothing on of course)(Because the drop depend on the lvl they said) then u have lots of cash on the autoer.

odds are it'll have something like bounty hunter with you have x cash you get x drop. So if you kill someone with no cash and no gear odds are you won't be getting much.

Anyway. JaGex always says they're going to update stuff to keep people playing, while they don't do anything about it. Lets look back and remember, when was BH replacements promised? About a year ago, if not more. Or less. And are they there? Noope.

They can't prevent RWT from coming back this way though.

I wonder if this Pvp thing does happen, will you be able to transfer items by using two accounts? One with the stuff and the other pks it. Sorta like BH but maybe this will be safer.

Also, does anyone know how the old RSC PvP worked? Was it like you tried to pk someone and you chased them half across the map, and basically nowhere to run?

no because when you drop items the other person cant pick them up
you just get special items i think there will be a way to use this to an advantage

Wow, two days ago i was talking to a few people ingame about pking, one was a fairly new player and had never pked in his life, the other just started pking when jagex changed the wildy.. and anyway i thought up the idea of this, 2-4 words dedicated to pure pking, almost everywhere you go you can kill and get killed by other people, i went on the forums and it turns out this has been suggested quite a lot, and now they're actually doing it, feel's like a dream come true.. Hopefully this will actually be rewarding, and my zerker pure will be put to good use… =D

The drops are determined by computer, depending on how impressive a kill is, so if you kill a unarmed lv100 you get less stuff than a lv80 with full veracs i.e.

Oh, and with the old times I mean RS pre-wildy :p

The real problem with bounty hunter was the lack of sufficient space. It will be amazing if Jagex really makes entire worlds where you can play the game normally while also fighting players and controlling territory.

bh was useless i pked full rune and then was stuck in there for 180 secs with like 10 lobs and what a suprise i died losing like 350k worth of items.Even on my lvl 87 range acc its almost impossible to actually get a pk in bh it sucks so bad so thank fuck pkin is comin back :):):):):):):)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys ive finally came back from after this update and I have to say that I think alot of people will be lured into the game again and then it will do good business and I believe jagex will take their eyes off rwt because they have to constantly update the game due to the number of players.

so like will there be wildy lvls like he old wildy or can a lvl 90 attack a person with a lvl 3 account lol?

Its like the wildy lvls, depending on where you are… Some places are more dangerous than others.

Only some pvp worlds. But there you can fight over 99% of the world. Read the newsletter man.

if you think about it, all this means is that they're giving us more ways to come up with creative ideas for RWT or trading between autoers.

hmm but couldn't you just own your main with a big hit with your pure, and then get a bunch of money onto it? There has to be a way you can't do that… Something tells me this might be as bad as bh… But I hope not, I heart a good PvP

People are saying that you still won't be able to RTW, but in essence, you won't need to. If the game generates items, then you could have as much as you want, as long as the items are tradeable.

I don't think you guys understand what is actually going to happen. Either that, or none of you read the whole description, and only the title of the thread. You will be able to bring items that you own into the Pking world, but items that you have Pked in the world, you are not allowed to bring back to the normal world. This is their idea of preventing the Real World Trading issues that they're STILL having. No one really wants to pk to gain a bunch of rune items in their bank that cannot be sold, or used… people want to pk so they earn money. It's obvious what they're doing, you just have to scope out the obvious, or wait and see.

In my opinion, this is going to be worse than bounty hunter because at least in that, the earnings and people you killed, you were able to actually SELL and use that GP for other related things. Think about it, JaGeX wouldn't remove PKing, and completely bring it back, having whole worlds for this. It's irrational.
