Option 1: Domain Name - Not free
What you can do is purchase any domain name from a website (godaddy.com, for example) minus the hosting they usually try to offer you with the domain. Then, I will set your domain name up with my hosting (free).

This way, you are only paying for the domain name every month (like $9.99 for a .com domain, other extensions are much cheaper, .org for example) rather than the domain + host.

With this you will go to http://YourName.com (or whatever extension you bought) and it will work just like a regular website; only that I am your host. Nowhere on your website will it show that you are being hosted by mgatesphoto.com. You will have your own FTP and whatever else you need or want.

Only requirement for this is the ability to change nameservers for your domain. Make sure you read up from who you are buying the domain from to see if you are allowed to change nameservers. If you are, then I can host you. If not, then I can't.

~~~If you can find one of those free domain names (like .tk, but you can't change nameservers for .tk unless they've changed that?) then I can host you under that too. I think cjb.net is free…YourName.cjb.net would be like a regular domain, no payment involved.

Option 2: Subdomain - Free
I can create a subdomain for you under my website's name.
YourName.mgatesphoto.com

With a subdomain, you can access your website with either mgatesphoto.com/YourName or YourName.mgatesphoto.com

Be sure to send me a PM with your domain's name! So if your domain is http://lol.com, then tell me. When you send me the PM I will reply with the general info plus the nameserver that you have to change your domain settings to. If you don't know how to change your settings, PM me saying so and I can help you.
Make sure you backup all your old files. You will have to reupload them after you switch your hosting.

No, I just put it on my real HD… works a lot better. TrueCrypt it and be happy.

No offense buddy, but this sounds like yet another overselling deal that will end up with terrible uptime…

I'm hosted at the same company as SRL, Knownhost (http://knownhost.com). They're very expensive compared to stuff like hostgator and such, but compared to decent hosting companies they've got really good prices, great uptime and perfect support (questions answered withing 10 minutes)… I recently upgraded to one of their VPS plans with premium bandwidth, and it's great.

Looks can be deceiving. I've been with LunarPages for over 2 years, they're great. Customer service - excellent. Great downtime, 800kb/s which is good for my ISP. Fast server, great uptime. Never goes down.

it may be easyer but it isnt as advanced
i have FlasFXP scene edition and i use it everytime i use a FTP

For creating mysql databases and whatnot, unfortunately you would have to go through me for that. I've asked LunarPages and they said there can only be one cpanel for one domain, cannot give cpanels for subdomains. But, if you can find a way to create a cpanel for your subdomain, let me know. I don't see an option to create users in my cpanel admin.

For now, send me a PM with what you want your database name to be, user and password for the db too. I've created a forum db for Hy71194, and his forums working fine =]. So it can be done, downside is you have to PM me whenever you want a db made or whatever.

Edit: Swift, I'v been using SSh Secure file transfer client. Works well. IMO one of pointlesses FTP clients is SmartFTP…slow, and lot of unneeded stuff attached to it..

Edit: And yeah, there is CSS, I don't know why it didn't worked at 1st time, I uploaded all files at once..looked through browser there is no css effect, wrote you a letter, refreshed page again… it worked =/

Site name, IP, (Can be mgatesphoto.com or 74.50.6.170 is fine too), user & pass, and thats it, press Apply, then connect…so you can up and download files to your web server account, ext time just hit F4 and press connect.

Actually LunarPages don't oversell - check out BlueHost if you want to see some serious overselling (unlimited disk space and bandwidth anyone :rolleyes: ? ). KnownHost looks pretty nice, but they overprice their servers like hell..

Heh, just because they haven't oversold so far doesn't mean they won't :)
And Knownhost might be fairly expensive, their service is flawless… I don't ever have to worry about a thing, if I request it, they will install software, change settings, they even rebuilt PHP once for me…

I usually start by giving people 1 gig space, more as they need it. Bandwidth I have plenty, 25gigs of it i think for now.

Everyone has been upgraded to 1000mb space, if you had less to begin with. Most people are barely using 100 mb anyhow but here you go. If you need more im more than happy to give it.
