So I've heard about the hole ending of the world in 2012 deal, but I never really knew how they thought it was going to end. So I found some info and thought i'd post it here. There's another thread about this, but there isn't really any info on it.

Tell me what YOU think. :)

1. Mayan Calendar


The first mob to predict 2012 as the end of the world were the Mayans.

Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they've got the end of the world right as well.

2. Sun Storms


Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012

3. The Atom Smasher

Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball.

4. The Bible says…

If having scientists warning us about the end of the world isn't bad enough,religious folks are getting in on the act aswell. Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good an Evil, has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings.

5. Super Volcano


Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple - it's sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.

6. The Physicists

This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.

7. Slip-Slop-Slap-BANG!

We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun's radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.

Haha I personally don't think anyone has to worry about anything. I think that it's all just built off of one prediction. There have been so many predictions for the world to end it's not even funny. I don't think anyone has to worry about this one either. Although, I do think it's very intresting. ;)

As for the Poles moving places ever 750,000 years…If that really happened then all the water, Life, bacteria would have died and we would not be here today.

The mayans didn't literally mean the END of the world, but the end of an era.

Well, where here. And there is proof of the poles switching. It's said that there's only a chance that the earths magnetism would disappear and allow all the UV in. They found that the pole has actually switched several times since the forming of the earth, and it's all found by the magma making up the oceans floor.

The predictions for the end of the world to come at the turn of the millenium (the year 2000) and on 6-6-06 were only formed because of special numbers. Time was most likely created by humans, and for the world to end right on the start of the 2000th year is extremely unlikely. Same with 6-6-06, just because it's the supposed 'devil's' number doesn't mean it is has anything to do with the end of the world. But now, here, ancient people who were able to figure out nearly exactly the length of a lunar year with limited resources are suggesting that the world will end then, I think I can almost believe them…

We were all "supposed" to die on June 6th, 2006 (6/6/06). Guess what. It was bogus.

I also don't believe Global Warming is legitimate, either. The Earth has been in continuous cycles of heating and cooling since the creation. I don't believe this theory, but based on the big bang theory Earth was created as the Sun is now. The Earth was a sulfur sky-filled planet with lakes of boiling lava.

But, I disagree with all the theories, as I believe in Creationism.

I think you were confusing the Mayans with the Aztecs ;) The Aztecs were blood thirsty and bloody, however the Mayans were some-what peaceful and had high intelligence, especially in mathematics and astronomy ;) The Aztecs took many buildings from the Mayans, and the great city of what they called Tenochtitlan was actually adapted from a previous Mayan city. The Aztecs took this city for granted, as their tribal god (Huitzilipchlit (I think that's how it's spelt)) told them to end here for their 100 year long journey. They took statues, that looked like their god and so they made it into their god.

About this Dooms-Day in 2012, i'd say that scientists make up the date from various Holy Books, as they display 2012 as the end-of-the-world day. So, i'd say that it's just a guess, as they suspect it would be close to the present year.

Well, that's my opinion. Now to allow my hands to rest after 5 minutes of typing :p

Which leads into the theroy that these 'gods' where interstellal traverlers, who bestwoed great knolodge and tools to these people. Look at every ancient civalization, there gods all share similaritys and have the same basic desciprtions. So, these are the beings that are predicted to return in 2012, either bringing with them a new golden age, similair to which they brought when they first came…or death, destruction and frosty chocolate milkshakes.

I would not put much stock in to all the hub bub does anyone remember Y2K when all technological devices were supposed to become obsolete never happened besides the fact that several end of days prediction coincide with my birth day when I turn 21 means nothing I swear lol.

Y2K was a calculated prediction that for some reason no one could really pinpoint an outcome.

Everything about the Y2K could have possibly happened, infact alot of systems got screwed over, and if we hadnt had been prepared for Y2K then perhaps some sort of disaster could have happened.

Y2K would have caused errors but even still…if i was making a nuke, the kinda failsafe i would put in wouldnt involve it launching off its own accord…i would be more inclined to have it shut down.

Still the point stands however that Y2K did not do what people were afraid of. I know most people where I lived took no precautions against the supposed affects and nothing happened to us

fear is just stupid people confronting the unknown. Most people dont even know what Y2K is. They where told alot of scary stories about explosions and death and they went around blasting that the world was ending cause computers where going to blow up and kill us.


The smarter of us either took precautions or did nothing. cause the threat was minimal at best.


Now with the 2012 'doomsday' theroy. Those ancient races where more smarter than we are today im betting. And those predictions where most likely written down by the smartest of the smart.

Although Nostradamus's predictions could be looked at in almost any form and found to be correct most TV 'psychics' use it today they call it a cold reading John Edwards was a great example of this he never said anything definite it was always I am picking up something about Peter does this mean anything to any one? alright then I am also sensing some random month and the person felt a connection from their own memories.

The Twin towers burning down was predicted, but in a way that it could hav been 100 different things. The predictions are done in such a way that makes them near impossible to comprehend until they happen. There not warnings..something else entierly.

But i believe the prediction on the 2012, if one of the few that actualy say a date.

I just don't know the way I see it the religious nuts are just that crazy the Mayans and Incans both stopped because of their religions most of the other predictions come from a time of great sorrow and people needed something to say hey the world isn't going to end today and well the math people I would like to see them explain their findings

I don't believe Nostradamus's predictions. I could even take many collections of words and blow them up in any random order. Somewhere, it's going to make something that is completely random. Most people just took it the wrong way. What is with the world today?

You forgot to add that Britain if hosting the Olympics. If anything were a signal of the world ending it would the country that revolutionised much of the world in the last era failing at every sport on its home country, thus ending in nuking every other country etc. to get atleast 1 medal in the next games, thus causing a nuclear war that will literally wipe out the entire human population as well as nearly all other living species immediately and the remaining most likely dying from radiation poisoning over the few years after. And the wafflecopter is said to be coming in to town to battle Chuck Norris which will end the universe as both sides have a probability of 1 to win and 0 to lose, thus making it impossible for either side to lose, the universe will implode as a space-time rift is started at the place of contact. This event is also scheduled to appear at the 2012 games.

I probably wouldn't believe any of this if it weren't for almost every ancient religion having pretty much the same stories and everything.

If you think about it, most things in the Bible could point to extra-terrestrials. God in Heaven above? Sounds an awful lot like it could mean aliens. After all, we we're supposedly created by god. In my opinion, creating a species wouldn't be that far fetched for aliens. Or more likely, conducting some huge experiment on the development of a modified version of themselves. And then to add to all that, the description of Hell sounds an awful lot like a prison to me.

Anyways, I think the possibilities are more along the lines of something to do with this.

There Are Many Theories that will happen on 2012, December 23.

one of them is Planet X. The Oldest Civilization (that we know of) is called the Sumerian's. These people Lived About 4, 000 b.c. Anyway.. they were very clever and advanced. One of the most amazing things about the Sumerian's was they had our solar system mapped out. They actually knew the sizes and the distances of which every planet in our solar system is. Which is very interesting because they had nothing such as the telescope.

Well unfortunately, these same people claimed to say there was another mysterious planet. The Planet X ( Nibiru ) which actually orbits around the earth every 3, 600 years. it orbits something like

Sumerian's had claimed there was a advanced civilization the visited them from another planet.

I can almost garentee that the state I live in has more nukes by it self than Iran has in the entire country. If North Korea was helping them build their tunnels and North Korea just exploded their first nuke this last year then don't yu think that it would be improbable that Iran has more nukes than they do besides the fact (I know some of you are going to try and argue this next point from me but whatever I do not care do not PM or flame me) the UN closely moniters all sales of items required to make a enriched uranium that is required for use in a nuke. They moniter all shipments of such materials but they do nothing about them (There my saving grace for bringing up the UN) I live in Wyoming the nuke center of the world so to speak. During the cold war over three hundred missles were installed inside my COUNTY lines let alone the state. Speaking of the cold war America out produced every single country in the world for making nukes and we still have almost our entire stockpile. So do some more homework before you say Iran has the most nukes in the world.

Now the planet X theory here is the biggest problem say we used the largest sized astroid in the solar system it is about 900km across to give you an idea what thats like the state of texas is about 1200 or 1400km I do not remember at the moment again more perspective if all the known objects of non planet or moon classes were put into one solid objet they would be around 1500km across or less than half earths moon however you want to look at it. Now to the edge of the astroid belt is about 2.7 times the distance from the earth to the sun so this astoriod would have to be traveling at about well lets see the earth is on average 92 million miles away from the sun so 2.7 * 92,000,000 = 248,400,000 So a mile is about 1.609 km meaning the fringe of the astroid belt is 399,675,600km away from the sun or 251,647,600km away from earth meaning that the 900km across astroid would have to travel at 29,370.6349kmph now that is the speed it would take for the astroid to reach earth in one year. Now lets say that this planet x is the size of lets say pluto just to be on the fair side now from the sun to the edgoe of the solar system because of our earths sun the edge of the solor system is about two light years away now because light travels at about 1,079,252,848.8kmph so two light years equal 18,494,076,803,328km so in order for planet x to reach earth in five years it needs to travel at about 432913282.85kmph and then it needs to slow down to a speed that it will be able to enter into earths orbit. and this all depends on if planet x is on a direct course for the exact position where earth will be in five years so I think the probability is very slim that planet x is a reality.

Those two were the easiest and I wanted to get rid of them off the board for potential doomsday endings I guess is the best word. But give me a couple days and I will prove the others false except for the comet eventually destroying earth thing for that all they need to do is read my part about the planet x that will prove about how in 2012 we will not be destroyed by a comet or astroid. but thank you I think for your comment.

For now though I am going to try and convince you that the polar shift why it will affect the magnetic field around Earth it will not dissapate leaving us to whatever havok the solar system wishes to throw at us.

The reason we have a magnetic field anyway at least one strong enough to repel solar winds is because the earth has a spinning iron core surronding a solid iron core these are called the inner and outer cores obviously but becuase the one is constantly rotating it creates emmense friction against the solid core. Now this part you can do for your self the easyiest way to do it is get a simple hand grinder and make yourself an iron wheel to attatch to it (One quik point I would like to make though is there is also enough nickel in the earths crust to be magnetic and for those of you who do not know yes nickel in its raw form is magnetic and in fact if anough was gathered you could pull a car along the ground really really fast.) Now just take a good sized piece of iron and turn your grider on and firmlyh hold your peice of iron to the iron whell I would definetly suggest atleast some weldersw gloves because this will get hot real fast when all said and done and you have grinded your little heart out both pieces will have become magnetic enough to the point where they will be able to hald about 2 pounds now this doesnt sound like much but think about the massive amount of iron in our earths core now that make alot of pull the reason why the north and south poles have the strongest magnetic releases is becuase the earth is not round like we want to believe but slightly squished sort of like and egg but not quite that much. Now the poles are just about the thinest point where a almost stagnant point in the circulation of iron occurs this means that the magnetic force is not being spun away but up and out. So a polar shift while messing with the enviorment for about 200 years will do nothing sever to our magnetic 'coating'

I believe the ancient civilizations were more intelligent than we are now; with time, humans have grown lazy. Within the past 50 years, we have been developing technology to do our work for us, and we advance it continuously. I personally think that by not doing the work ourselves causes us to miss certain points, which is why the ancient civilizations were capable of these significant calculations and predictions. They actually did their work and excersized their brain power. (Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not calling people "stupid". I'm simply stating that we are taking advantage of the technology that we have available to us today.) Therefore, the ancient civilizations had much stronger minds than modern-day people (Personal opinion; disagree if you want, I don't care.) I personally have not heard of any new math being developed within the past 10-15 years but yet, there are all of these unsolvable theories, etc. 50 years ago and beyond the great scientists invented the math to solve these "problems". Now days it seems as if we're searching for ways around these situations.

The prediction of a "catastrophe" within our world in 2012 may be correct. However, I do not think of this to be a true catastrophe. It is true, magnetic poles have a tendency to change. The Sun's changes something like every 11 or 22 years (not positive). I'm not the most intellectual with this, but I do know that the magnetic cycle has something to do with object size, etc. so the sun's poles will change much more than the Earth's. Honestly, scientists don't know what will happen when the Earth's poles change, nor when it will happen. For all scientists know the pole change could start tomorrow because there is no documentation of the last Pole Change. These predictions of the pole change and when it will happen are most likely based off of research between different stars and doing a ratio-based estimation.

The "Planet X" thing is bull. It has been proven that we cannot detect nearby objects very easily, nor can we detect distant objects easily. The last major "possible" impactor that passed by the earth was in 2006. Guess what: we did not even know it existed until within a month of its passing… It passed within the moon's orbit. So… What makes scientists believe that they can detect something four years away? There are so many other things effecting it that they can't accurately detect these objects.

As for another catastrophe that could destroy our worlds, that could be the Sun, however based on scientific research of our Sun and other Suns, our Sun is nowhere near time to go Supernova(big explosion). Our Sun, last I heard, is somewhere around the middle of its lifetime. They estimate the Sun to be what, 4 billion years old? (I'm not exact because I'm not interested in doing the quick research to get the exact numbers.:google: ) That means that we have another 4 billion years to go before our sun goes boom!.
