Well i've heard of many people getting their usernames changed.
If they can, why can't I,
Like in all reality, how long would a process like this take?

Yes, there are plenty of tutorials about that. Search.
Also. There are no thread about that because probably it'll get flooded. And they are allowed to change they're name. Just PM to an admin.
