So school ends in 2 days for me, and my final project for my CAD class is due then and here's what i have been working on for the past quarter(8 weeks) and i was wondering if you guys had any suggestions/comments on it.. Ignore the floating deck, i already fixed it, i just was too lazy and didnt have the time to re-render my project.. (A high quality render with this many materials can take over 24 hours…)

That is really impressive!
Great work:)
It looks awsome man:D

Sweet. :) I wish some of the materials weren't so fake looking but there's nothing i can really do about that unfortunately..

very good but the shadowing spreads a little to far

2008-06-08 04:13:11
Yes, unfortunately there is nothing i can do about that.. But i was thinking did anyone have any suggestions on the house itself? not just the quality of the picture. :p you can comment on that too though. :)

Prepare to get an A because that is some mighty fine work you've done. Way better than I could've done in a year.

Only two things I saw, the lack of a way off the balcony, and the lighting on the door looks a little TO bright, imo.

Yeah, everything is fixed with the deck, there is stairs and balusters so it isnt floating in my current version, i just havent gotten around to rendering it. Thanks for the nice comments guys!

i like it though dont you think there are too many windows,(just giving advice since your thinking to be a architect) too much windows with no curtains can cause: sun rays*which will Make bills cost more* and people could see through :)
but neat work, nice high ceiling..

This is unbelievable. Just a few stuff outta proposition and shadowing off a tiny bit but gotta look at it to be able to see. id say 9 1/2 outta 10

I don't think there should be a shadow against the red wall on the upper floor from the staircase, but other than that it looks good. Good job :p

what program did you use to make this awesome picture? and wow 24 hour rendering time? max i could imagine is like 2-3 o.O
yeah lighting is a bit off like every one said. but over all you deffenitly know how to make great 3d stuff!

2008-06-09 03:30:20
Do you guys understand that i actually designed this house and it isnt just a rendering that i made in like 3D Studio Max or something? To red eyes: Chief Architect 10. I posted this in the hope that people could give me advice on the design aspect, not the rendering aspect of this house.. Thanks for your advice P1NKY, although i am confused on why you think more sun rays would lead to an increase in bills?? That doesnt make any sense to me.. That would increase natural lighting, therefore decreasing electrical bills. And all it is looking in to is a "living room" type area, where you could chill out and read a book or something..

is the chimney suopsed to have a chunk cut out?
can you biuld me it =]
and i think hermpie means that with out curtains heat can gt out so not good insulation so higher heating bils possibly?
i also noticed the shadow
and the ledge under the window it should be more flat it liks this atm \ it shoul be more like >
itSchRis917
2008-06-09 12:44:02
Lol, no, i fixed the chimney. And that doesn't make any sense whatsoever unless you manage to not close the window.. Which those windows dont even open on the second floor as they are all for decoration and are single paned glass.. And i'll get right on building it for you. :)

Very nice.
I'm gonna try to give some constructive criticism, pretty tough :p
Space.
The windows take up a lot of space. They look great from the outside, but maybe you could work a third floor into the design? Maybe a couple rooms around the sides, then open space directly over the dining room as to keep the open feel.
Energy.
Free energy! Add an entire glass panel to an unused piece of the roof (very peak?), and put a tank of water under it. You can then circulate the water through the house for heat or use it for hot water. Also note that windows transfer heat easily. Especially big ones. Solar power would help offset this problem, and would give your house a 'green' edge.
What can you export the model as? If you can export it as FBX, or other 'open' format, you should export, then render in Maya PLE or equivalent. Or ask someone with a better version to render it for you. It'd look better, and it's a lot quicker. (I could render that in five minutes to half an hour with mental ray, depending on the quality)
EDIT: Funny how many people are evaluating it graphically :)

Smartzkid = God. The only person in this entire thread(sorry if im wrong i dont want to look through all the posts) who actually analyzed the design of the house..
Scraper: I used Chief Architect to design this house, i would like to become an architect, not a GFX major or anything like that.. The rendering is just to show you what the outside of the house looks like..
Sharcoth: what are you talking about with bump maps? Once again, probably something with animation or Photoshop, cause i've done some animation stuff and i remember maps of materials.. And frankly, i look at my house from the outside at night, and there isnt any light shining on it, but once again, i cant edit that in this program, i can however tone down the lights in the house..

wait what…
that will cause Heat so more AC?
thats why in texas quite a bit of restaurants/houses/stores got alot of blinds/curtains cause it causes more AC so more spending on BILLS$$$ :)
hope you got me here

Well, I'm no architect, but from a personal view, I like the large windows, but dislike the openness.
I bet you have a lot of ceiling on the inside with nothing on it? Maybe add a window panel in the ceiling, or insert some ceiling lights. OR THOSE HANGING LIGHTS!

Maybe something like that shape, but not that design, exactly.

That is pretty awesome, I agree about maybe making some small changes to the shadowing but other than that its excellent.

If you are serious about becoming an architect, I suggest that you Get some Autodesk Software. Get a Copy or Architectural Desktop, as it is mainly used for 3D Modeling. It is great because it includes a professional rendering program with it.
I am not posting this because I work for Autodesk, or because it is my favorite 3D Design software company (which it is). I am posting this because all the architects that I know (About 20 from 8 Different Firms) all use Autodesk Software.
omfg thats umbelivably good, but maybe for some extra details maybe a few plants etc in the front garden maybe?

That's a very interesting design, I like the large window especially. Personally I wouldn't leave so much empty space up top, but to each his own!
