Stupid Vista Won't Work!!!

 Okay about 3 days ago, I downloaded SP1 on Vista. While it was trying to install, it got to about 5% on the 2nd step of configuring it, and the computer shut down. i tried rebooting it and got a black error screen that said '!!0x00C1F5!! $txtLog not found' and it shut off. I reboot it again and it has a blue Stop screen that reads 'STOP: 0xC1F5 (0x0000,0x0000,0x0000,0x0000)'
OMFG its the blue screen of death!
The freakin HP Vista laptop has a built in recovery feature that doesnt do shit. I use my recovery disks I made and they don't do shit either. At that point I call Microsoft.(whys their tech support always an indian??) they tell me its not theyre fault that THEY sent me a bad service pack. hey tell me to call Hewlett packard cuz 'it's a hardware failure, and its probably been there all the time!'. bullcrap it happens after i download their thing.
I call HP but they will not talk to me because my warranty expired 2 freakin days ago!!! They tell me i could renew it for a year for $99 or 2 days for $20. no way.
I download about 5 hotfixes, none work. thats when i installed linux on the laptop, but the linux wont find my built in wireless card.
Any advice on anything? ive tried every startup option it has.
I would reformat it but i dont know how to.
hey
i got that error too;)
for me.. it was the antivirus system which caused it..
this is what you need to do.. it will be a lot of work.. but hey:rolleyes:
go to safe mode..
go search..
type: msconfig
now go to services (the things which automatically start up when you put on your pc)
DELETE the acer (i tought it was from acer), antivirus unistall it…
reason:
it won't work with the new service pack;)
it causes problems when loading the service.. and thats why you get the blue screen;)
if that wont work..
try unchecking services.. so they won't load anymore..
thats huge work.. try to find the program(s) which cause this
good luck
hope i helped:)

PVH, that problly would work. problem is, it cant load safe mode or anytin! i start it, it goes to the vista loading thing and STOP!
hmm..
i know..
you need to do this:
ctrl+f8 (i tought)
hold that for like 10 seconds when putting on your pc..
it will come to a window.. select safe mode
and try my solve;)
if that isn;t the right combination.. try searching on google for safe mode
good luck!

yes, i chose safe mode, crashed restarted chose safe mod with networking, crashed and i kept goin down the line
chose WITHOUT network
only then it will work;)
reason:
when you choose network, services will load.. which will cause your pc to shutdown, since you have that error;)

Mm, isn't Vista that virus that Microsoft developed?
If I were you, I would rid my machine of it ASAP.
I can see you've already tried to do that by installing Linux. Very good move.
There's a guide on the Ubuntu Forums on using NDISwrapper to use Windows wireless drivers on Linux. It's a very good guide, and it got me online withing an hour of installing Gutsy.
Google is your friend!
Good luck :)

i would get rid of vista, but my dad loves that OS
and i cant get rid of it seeing i have no disks to uninstall it
@ Jason2gs that won't work..
ist just the service(s) which make it reboot;)
and i know it for 100%, since i had that problem too:p
i hate it..
and yes… vista sucks.. my dad bought it..:(

safe mode wont work, neither restore system. did more research and it seems SP1 wont work with HP computers. Why didnt they have a warning???
From: Jason2gs
Pvh, what won't work?
using linux..since it is in the services… and they load when you start your pc
putnam.. what goes wrong when using safemode?
i mean.. choose without network, nothing extra.. just safe mode..
safemode ONLY
and it should work:p

I hate how i seem to be alone in the pit of vista non-problem havers. ;)
RARG WHY CAN'T I HAVE THE FUN TOO!!!???!!!???
(surprisingly enough, my "refurbished" dell pc has great performance and no issues, it cost me $309, upgraded graphics card to some sweet 8600gt turbo charge thing. It has a button on the back that overclocks the stream processors and gpu 20% :D )

Download XP Pro. Or Ubuntu. Best OS' ever, depending on your needs.
And btw, you don't uninstall an operating system; you 'reformat' your hard drive, which basically clears everything, then you install your new one.

Maybe it's a sign that you should no longer play runescape and do something productive like getting a job

Sigh….When are you people going to learn? Vista isn't compatible with computers.
1. Put XP on your computer.
2. Install Vista in your toaster where it can't hurt anything.
3. Smile.

My dell with vista premium works about 100x better than my compaq with xp and my dad's HP with xp media center.
So i say that when it comes to issues with windows vista…

No, Vista is just full of bugs & errors, for example: I can't install SP1 (am going to do the safe mode thing that pvh said later) on my computer & have had plenty of problems + I can't keep my pc running more than a 1-5 days before it crashes

Actually, I have a different opinion on that… I have had my Vista laptop for about a year now, the first month I was like: "sweet, cool skins and stuff, also the search option is great". The following 8 months I was like: "OMFG, what kind of f****** s*** is this?!?! I just wasted 1 thousand dollars on this crap!" (sorry about the colorful language, but those words fit quite well in how I felt about Vista back then… ;)). Well, after those 9 months though, I actually tried to understand how it works, learning the different tweaks and twists you have to know for certain programms and application. Now guess what? I actually got it to run some ancient software from Windows 98 to run on it, and all other things work perfectly, too. The only things I had to do was turn ALL pre-installed anti-virus and firewall settings, and then go onto save mode (I'm always on as admin, so I didn't have to switch anyway), and install whatever I want. Some programms like Scar for example cannot be installed into the "official" programms folder, because it is protected too serverly, so I just installed it directly under "C://". Now I have every program run automatically with admin priveledges, and it runs great. :D
(the only thing which still annoys me big time is that Vista swallows about 256 RAM, but heck, I have 2GB, so it's not a big deal ^^)

My learning curve lasted about a month. At first i was a little disgruntled. After that first month though I got used to it. And i don't get how people's vista PCs crash all the time. Just install proper drivers n shit and you're fine.
If you don't use ancient hardware you should be fine with vista. SP1 installed without a hitch. Maybe Home Basic or Home Ultimate are filled with bugs or something, but my reg'lar old premium is fine. I leave my PC on sleep when i am not using it and i only reboot if necessary. Like once every 2 weeks. Never a BSOD.
All i can say is:
Turn off User Account ControlIt is crap.
