Petition to Hide Poll Results

Just curious to find out what you guys think about this. I guess it's technically a rant on showing vote results before you vote but…
"Poll Manipulation" as I am using it is when you have three or more choices and know the figures. Lets say you're voting for the next leader of SRL. Wizzup?, Yoho, and Mage of Begu are the only choices you are given, and want MoB as the leader. You click to see the results, and find that Wizzup and Yoho are tied, and that MoB has no way of winning ( I wonder why ).
At this point, do you vote so your vote actually counts, or would you waste it on MoB?
A better example might be on thread ratings. Maybe its a five star and you think it should be 4. Voting a 4 would give you 4.5, or you could get what you want by voting 3…
Maybe a solution to these random thoughts would just be to display results after the poll expires.

I know on other message boards I go to once you view poll results you lose your ability to vote. So you either vote or sacrifice your vote in order to view results.

Ehm , well I voted yes because it makes the poll legit , but It also depends on what kind of poll are you voting,
Depends if letting the voters see the results affects their decision when voting or not.
What is better is to let the people vote , and after they vote, let them see how the voting is going, but not vice-versa, because it might affect the votes. Because if you hide the results , if people dont agree with the results they may think there was some kind of cheating.

i think this would be good for member applications. Then people wont vote based on other's vote's as much
EDIT: maybe the choice of having it visible?

completely agree, most people go for the guy who's going to win. not much democracy that way. not much you can do about the people. that would be something the forum could do and surely it isn't that hard.

seems like a good idea, not to have the polls results viewable until the poll is closed, that way people can vote, on what they want, rather than going with the majority of votes.

Hide Results! Thanks! I voted yes… I feel the same as you. It makes people feel incluned to vote for higher or lower votes count, which is not a true Democracy.
Think of it this way: Live US President pool results. Each time someone votes, the pool updates in real time. The result would not be based on true though of that person at all..

It would be great for member applications. I'd say yes, but I don't know how possible it is as far as making it actually happen. Also it really comes down to what the admins think about it.

There is actually a choice to hide poll results. Its a tick-box when you're posting.

Have you ever seen spoiler tags that just ask you to maximize them?

Good point. I think you should be able to see poll results only after you've voted, otherwise its not legit at all.
Lols, this forum isnt exactly "legit".

after looking at the results from the poll, i noticed everyone was going towards the 'yes' side, and i wanted to be minority..so NO FTW!
theres a good example..though i probably shouldn't have actually voted 'no'…

they should only be revealed after voting to ensure that the information is correct

What you are saying now is that before you vote you should be able to view the poll results. Right? I can do that, and I am pretty sure everyone can see the results of the poll before they vote… I just click 'view poll results'. Don't you guys have that?

Wizzup, he meant the opposite.
He means that you cast in your vote without seeing the votes of other people.
SB, every poll that I've seen has had the View Poll Results, I think the box is ticked by default…
