I've been trying to figure out the uses for these lately and found some interesting things.
For those who don't know, they are the files stored in the .jagex_cache_32 folder on your computer.
Here is a tut about them-
http://www.villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30959
Normally you can't edit them and can't even view them while RuneScape is running, but I got around this by selecting notepad as the default application to open .dat files with.
Now I am allowed to edit and save these files as what I want even while RS is up using notepad.
I made a script to detect when the files change, so I could see when Jagex updates them. (Below)
The only times it seems it can be updated automatically are when you first start to load a world and when you log in on a character.
But it doesn't update every time…
I can only get the random.dat file to change after I have first changed it myself.
It seems to detect that it was edited and then it gets changed back to 24 random characters.
Also if you change it to more than 24 characters and try to load a world, it will be cleared and have nothing in it.
Then when you log in on an account it will be updated to the normal 24 random characters.
So maybe the length of what is in it is how they know it has been changed?
I edited the random.dat to have 24 characters, and found that it STAYS!
They don't change it back when you load worlds/ log in.
You can just put in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and it will stay.
There are a few other files Jagex stores on your computer too, but they don't seem to be as important as random.dat.
I cleared out all the other files and can't seem to find a way for them to be updated again.
They just stay blank.
The characters generated into random.dat don't seem to follow any pattern at all no matter what i do.
What world, when, what character i use, nothing makes any kind of pattern…
My hope with this is maybe you could take the files from one computer that has always been played legit on and put what is in those into the files of your computer that you auto on and be recognized as a "clean player".
Maybe this is why i seem to get more randoms on my autoer computer than any other computer, and especially WHILE autoing.
So here is the script i made.
If you'd like to help me you can run this and send me what it gives you.
I'd like to find out when the other files get updated, or how to update them.
Also i think i've seen people that get their random.dat filled with a different amount of characters than 24.
If this happens i'd like to know about that too.
I also wonder if everyone has the same files saved.
Here is what i have-
Under the main folder-
.jagex_cache_32 -> main_file_cache.dat2, main_file_cache.idx255, and random.dat
Folder inside main folder-
Loginapplet -> cache-1965029828, cache–444661539, main_file_cache.dat2, and main_file_cache.idx255.
