Leechers

Lately, Ive Noticed That There are many, many SRL Members that have < 5 posts, and many many SRL members do not contribute to SRL… they just leech… I see about 100 SRL Member Scripts… Thats WAYY LESS Scripts than members… To me it seems that many SRL Members Leech Scripts, and dont write any of there own.

I think that An Administrator Should start revoking the SRL Member Privilages From those Leeching SRL Members who have 4-5 posts, and havent contributed at all to SRL.

What Do You Think?

I agree about the 5 post thing, but theres a grey area with the number of scripts. SRL's primary purpose is more about the include, rather than the scripts. IMHO contributing can mean (including and not limited to):

Releasing scripts
Releasing procs/functions
Sharing ideas
Testing and helping (even taking screen shots can help)
Expanding our knowledge on autoing and scripting

Basically a lot of things can be contributing, and it's pretty much common sense. My point is you can't really go by number of scripts.

Also, maybe ways to make contributing easier would help. Like a forum with projects people can join when they don't have any of their own to contribute.

Gah. Even some devs dont have scripts there. Although i do agree with you somewhat its harder then it sounds.

I also agree.
You dont have to script to be srl member though.
I just want to see them at leatHELPING THE COMMUNITY and makeing good helpful posts i agree 100%. Many people are use their 5 posts to learn a small bit of scar. Useing 10 minutes of their life to make a ghetto script. And become srl members and just leeching what weve worked so hard on!

=)

Well, if the only requirements to become a member are to make a "ghetto script," then leechers simply have to make an autobuyer that is a worthless peice of crap that no one will ever use. I think that to get in you should have to incorporate atleast the main ideas of SRL, if this community is about SRL, and SRL's big difference from other includes is it's Multi-Character functionality then to become you should have to be able to make a script that utilizes multiple characters and has fully functional anti-randoms.

AND. By fully functional I mean they are implemented correctly, there's not just anti-randoms checks thrown in randomly, I mean the person needs to know how to put anti-randoms in so that the script will function correctly. The reason there's not a lot of scripters is because all these can just slip in without really understanding how to script and so they just use other people's scripts and don't find need to work on their own skills anymore then they already have, so we have all these members who can make autobuyers, but don't know how to make a REAL script.

Raise the scripting standards to get in, or focus on more SRL oriented script requirements and encourage people to get help about scripting.

…..you know what you can do?

STOP VOTING FOR LOSERS!
its a democratic system here, so if you want the members section to stay semi-elite, feel free to vote no and post why

if their script is bad and people say they are going to continue to learn scar and improve their scripting skills once they get into members, you should probably have a reason to believe them in order to vote yes

I just joined 2 days ago… every single application that has been made since i joined i voted no on.

It's hard to define what sort of standard should be allowed in and what shouldn't. I'd bet a good number of the better scripters started out with a seemingly-rubbish application, then improved.
And once someone gets in, no matter how talented they are, they can just sit on their thumbs.
And if you want to force people to be active, then that requires defining what active is and so on.
While you have a great point, I really can't see what could be done.
Well, if you want to standardize the app consideration process somewhat, that'd help. If you want to say that you have to post once every so often, okay. (Mind you, people like me take breaks because of schoolwork all the time.) But in the end, nothing stops people from sitting and twiddling their thumbs, doing the minimum needed to stay in. You can only hope enough don't opt for that route.

It's amazing how some people just join then automatically sign up to be a SRL member. They don't even post a freaking script! Well I just seen somebody do something like that in the Applications so meh..

Perhaps Every SRL member have their status revoked, and We should all send in new apps wiht a more strict application process….

i agree, its too easy to become a SRL member

when i applied to be a member, not only did i post about 4 scripts, one of which was Ice Magicks, also an unfinished one that is released now. But i also wrote a paragraph about how im not a leecher and gave examples.(eg. a few progress reports on goblin scheduler and guildminer) i also posted a procedure which i wanted to add to SRL

i think it should take more than a autominer which the guy barely understands to get in
how about a new catagory. "Why are you not a leecher?"

i always thought these applications were like a job interveiw, now it looks like they are a walk in the park.

this thread has inspired me, im going to vote on every application i see ;)

Back in the early days at villavu becoming a SRL Member was a matter of attitude and respect. Show me the right attitude and I will give you the respect.
For the SRL community, this has prooven to be the right approach. Today, SRL is by far the most descent RS-cheating hangout in the world. This has little to do with the scripting skills of the avg. teenager, but has everything to do with its attitude and behaviour. Even through ascii, you can clearly read the intentions of the speaker.
And about the infamous leechers: Haven't we all been leechers? Isnt worlds population mostly made out of leechers? Leeching is not neccesarily a bad thing, it is the beginning of scripting. Besides, with an avg 20% activity (and rising), we are far more active then most other forums.
We will proceed with this approach. When you reply to a Appliance, use your common sense and let your heart speak at the same time.

And trust the admins in their judgements.

@Fawki's Second Paragraph: Yea lots people are leechers. And thats cool for them. We are just saying we shoudlnt accept leechers to srl member. to leech out scripts. We have all BEEN leacers but we arent anymore and thas why we are in the srl member section. They must break though and "penetrate" if you will =p the lecchynes and be beorn into a beautiful srl member

BYAA!
EDIT:
I think that all SRL members should be monitored by other SRL member and people should be able to that that
"hey ooberleetman isnt being a very good SRL member and he is very leecy please revoke his SRL membership"
Myabey add an option next to rep(if thats possible) or have some kind of noob gauge people can use to show how nooby or leecy someone else is.=)

Well I am sorry, I just recently got into the School of Pharmacy and since that my personal time is non-existent but I still put as much time as i can into Runescape as it is a great way to relax for me, so if there does come a standardization of requirements, people like me are screwed.

im a srl member with 14 psts but i only post when i see i need to. I don't leech cause
1. i dont auto on runescape ( just test my scripts)
2. i dont like leeching.

EDIT FAWK: use proper english please. Take the time to read what you write please.

I agree with Fakawi, I leeched scripts (not from here) for about a year…..now i'm a SRL member, dont be so quick to judge leechers……

weibs

2006-10-27 16:54:15

Yeah, I leached for about a month, but that's how I got interested in Scar and it was kind of like the first step to scripting. I think the democratic voting system is perfect for its purpose, if you want to keep leechers out, then vote no to them. If everyone, or most people, do that, then there will be no problem.

inferno

2006-10-27 17:06:00

I leeched from june 05 to september 05, I could never get any scripts to work though. :P

With the applications, if they sound like they could contribute to the community I vote for them as they have put the time and effort into writing a decent application. If they post without following the guidelines, put up a half assed log in script etc, they are not the kind of people I would like to see in the members section.

Fakawi's English Is Fine. just a couple typos…
I mean… I dont even think that fakawi is a native english speaker because he's not from an english - speaking country…
Of Course… All European Countries Speak English Nowadays…
Any How i think its fine, and i do have a 4.2 GPA and all…. ;p

Soupy 'Edit FAWK:' means edit by WT-Fakawi. If you look at the bottom of the post it says last edited by Fakawi. So that was Fakawi saying the other guy has bad english, not the other way around. I figured that out without a 4.2 GPA
