MMO vs Macro

It seems Jagex (Like all other MMORPG companies) is taking an aggressive stance towards macroers.

I'm wondering how SRL Members are coping with the increased difficulty of making a macro to automate repetitive tasks? For example - the Ore Change which makes most veins look like the original "Clay" veins. The color is hard to detect, even when playing legitimately.

Not to mention the addition of more and more random events (Does anyone remember fatigue :p) which seem to pop up every 30 minutes.

Even the Runescape community seems to be adopting a harsh attitude towards autoers. I've had a couple of people whine at me (my 9 year old brother actually - I help with with various things) for cutting down trees too fast. At a single mention of the ore color change - I get people bitching about autoers. Obviously this makes it difficult for autoresponders.

In the other thread: http://www.villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30023, it seems Jagex is planning to release a "VAC" like program which collects data about your computer. Judging from WoW and Valve games - these things are extremely effective, and the only effective way to counter them is to run RS on a virtual machine.

Do you see this as a beautiful challenge or a threat to SCAR and SRL? Sometimes it can be a real pain when companies implement this type of thing.

beautiful challenge

im not a srl member but i will talk anyway ;)

i think its a beautiful challenge to use scripters,

the things you talked about….

-Viens in rocks , the color is different that the rest of the rock so no biggy
-Randoms comming more, good random detection from our wonderful srl devs does the easy randoms and lots of people are working hard at the hard ones…

no biggy justs make its more of a challenge to script ……..

The reason (the main one for most) people at this community continue to script throughout Jagex's hostility towards macroing and all the effort that they put against us is summed up by our fearless leader:

He enabled us to play the game with a different approach. A approach Jackex calls "cheating", and "against the rules", but for us it is an intelectual challenge: outsmarting the system, solving each trap they set out for us. Consider us Masterthieves. We do not use any illegal methods. We do not infringe any copyright, we do not use our knowledge about the java code, we do not break any laws. We merely play "against the rules". We cheat. Thats what we are good at, thats what we do.

WT-Fakawi.

No matter what happens we will find a way to auto against jagex. Unless of course they assassinate fakawi, in which case there will be a rl war against them :D

Really? Jagex is thinking about something similar to VAC? Where did you find this information at?

Now that would be a challenge.

He is talking about the computer specs scanner which is possibly a VAC. World of warcraft uses a Warden program scanning your RAM and CPU which requires at least a rootkit to bypass.

No matter what, we'll just own them :p
And we can always use unsigned client. With unsigned they got almost no access to our computers, as the applet runs in sandbox mode.

Gl @ jagex trying to "sell" their load of crap as a "100% browser based" etc. once they release some 100mb security system that needs to be installed before running RS :p .. And then we'd need some bypasses :D

VAC (Valve Anti Cheat) would then be called JAM (Jagex Anti Macro) :D
FUN!

Eww, JAM

Jagex would lose quite a bit of members

A program that you can use to run programs. It lets you execute a program and let your anti-virus catch a virus/etc… without damaging your computa.

Actually, kingarabian, sandboxie is just a program that lets you run things in sandbox mode. "Sandbox" didn't come from that program. Running things in a sandbox is (I hope I manage to say this right) running something, but restricting its accessibility to certain things.

Restricting access to everything. The only thing it can do is play around in it's little "box".

Given that jagex use java does that mean we need to be on the lookout for a JAM.jar?

I'll get my coat…

That is a good way too put it. Thanks I didn't really understand what you guys meant by sandbox.

Yep - it'll work good for Runescape, considering it doesn't require much RAM or CPU power to function. Any attempt by Jagex to 'JAM' their system, will be a failure.
