An Image Of The Future

Over the past year, we've been keeping a rather large secret. We have been working on a complete graphical rework of RuneScape, which is looking truly spectacular. There's no need to take our word for it: look at the images below and see for yourself.

As you know, we currently offer 'High Detail' and 'Low Detail' modes. We plan on adding a new and optional detail mode, bringing you accelerated higher quality graphics. This will be in addition to the existing detail modes, as they will remain unchanged.

As if the improvements below weren't enough, an optional fullscreen version of RuneScape is due at the same time. This will let you play at a resolution of your choice, and it also supports widescreen monitors. We think you'll agree, the future of RuneScape is looking very good indeed….

Here are the images from the news post.

I have to say it's looking pretty good, and full screen will be sweet

good thing its optional. Nothing would need to be changed.

It looks ok, but they really need to work on the actual people's look

This is just, so that runescape could keep up with other better graphical games. After they took out the wildy and added the trade rule, theres no point of paying 5 dollers for a game while others take only 5 dollers more, and look way better.

Hmm, nice update, Jagex. I just hope that this STAYS optional between low graphics and high graphics.

Haha. If they take the low/high qualities away then SRL will need to evolve once more.

I don't think many legit players would like it if the old graphics got taken away because i must admit i prefer the old ones to the new ones shown in them pictures. Im also guessing that if it remains optional that SRL will stay dedicated to the same graphical version of runescape that it works with now?

This is just a ploy by Jagex to get us to run their program. First, they looked on the forum and saw we wouldn't do it. So, to get us to do it, they show us a picure that promises fullscreen.

Okay, to answer a few questions, first off, the current graphics will still be in place as an option, this is not going to affect us…

Secondly, if you compare the images you will realize the only difference is shading and textures every single mesh is exactly the same…

Third, JaGex uses a program called Blender to develop all of their graphics. This is NOT a picture of the actually updated graphics engine creating the picture, this picture is made using Blender's graphics engine, not the new one! This is just to show what they think it will look like…

I use this same program often, this is not the new graphics engine, this is Blender's…

When JaGex was developing RS 2 they would show pictures of the new "graphics engine" comparing the two etc… in some of them they show Runescape as having a sky, which I know was post image processing…

Here is the picture:

By the way, I might actually post something rendered in Blenders graphics engine in a little while. I might quickly make a model of some part of Runescape just to demonstrate what I'm saying.

This means that there'll be a lot more colours and Mini Map and object finding will be difficult, therefore requiring more scripters and more knowledge to be parsed out.

Again I say, we won't need to change anything because this detail will be an addition to the other two.

No. That's why scripting for WoW doesn't exist/is harder.
