I need a good programming language to learn.

I want to make self-dependent applications.
Any recommendations.

C++, Delphi, Java, and lolcode are probably your best bets :)

I'd go with Java.

Self dependent? As in, executables?

Java can't give you an executable, but it would be a useful language to learn. Reason being, Java is used a lot of everyday applications.

Another good language to learn would be C++, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart :)

Perl is pretty easy, and it's support for sockets and pattern matching is fantastic. Generally it's run through an interpreter, but it can produce executables with perlcc. However, it's a bit tricky.

If you want to get more into web applications, PHP is extremely useful.

Can't think of anything else at the moment. Good luck!

Since Java seems to be recommended ill have to try it.

Then I think I would learn PHP after this.
