Alright, now I know that people like to use the "OMG!!! IMMA KILL MYSELF!!!!" excuse for the ban appeals…but…Jagex calls the cops on you…

Yes, you heard me, they tell the police. I live in the dorms at the college in Butte, Montana. Now this is what happened, this past week I had 3 accounts perm banned, and I was sending out threating ban-appeals like the suicide ones and stuff. Well…you might want to re-think that, because here is what happened…not five minutes ago, the dean of students for the college, and the dorm head administrator came into my room and checked my Ethernet port. Now this was scary in itself, because torrents are not allowed…not the I ever used them…;) Anyway, nor is the router I have set up, but they didn't notice it, so oh well. But now they came in and questioned us (my roommate and I) about the suicide thing and stuff, I pleaded ignorance. Now I'm on my way to the police station, for a video taped interview with the police, and the officer thinks he will have to turn the investigation over to the FBI…yeah…THE FBI!!!!
So just think twice before suicidal threats ;)

Exactly, They were all worried about me killing other people too…So this is what went down:

drove to the police station (my roommate and I)

Got interrogated for like half hour, after I realized the cop knew stuff about the internet and IP's I decided to fess up…

So I told him about these forums, and it was recommended, and it worked for some people. (ever try explaining the purpose of rs to someone…an old cop someone? and then the doctors and physc evaluators? It's tough)

THEN!!! He is like, alright, thanks for confessing, now I have to call the "Crisis" people (who are apparently mental health evaluators for "violence risk" people)

Alright, so the cop escorts me to the hospital (been at the police station for 45 mins) and I get sat in an emergency room…cuz its a hard core emergency right? (btw, I have to pay for all this…)

So the nurse comes in, I have to pee in a cup, and get blood drawn for all kinds of cool drug tests, and of course I get my blood pressure taken.

So then some doctor comes in…I don't even know what he was doing, or what his role is in this, but he wants this whole thing explained to him, (again, explain rs to an old doctor person…) So I assume that he was just there to embarrass me further…

So he leaves, the cop just stands at the door, and I'm just sitting in an emergency room room….and then the Crisis guy finally shows up and the cop leaves.

I get asked all kinds of stupid questions like "Do any flavors make you scared?" and "Do you think your skin is trying to kill you?"

After an hour of that he calls my dad, and my roommate to ask them if I have ever showed and suicidal tendencies, and then comes back in to say I'm a low risk person, and nothing is wrong, and I can go after they take my blood pressure again….which took 20 mins for the nurse to get back…

Then I walked home

Now, the FBI have already been informed (thats how the cop could trace my IP address, he had to get the FBI involved), and since Jagex is located out of country, the FBI like to get involved as well. So now I'm sittin back in my dorm, I might get kicked out of college,I might have to have an interview with the FBI later, I will have to pay for all this, and if the FBI thinks that this was some sort of threat, I may be fined on top of everything….:(:(:(:(

damn, there went my Saturday…

And they wouldn't get the FBI involved because frankly, the FBI doesn't care if you commit suicide or not. The most they would do is have you undergo a psych evaluation, which you claim to have had… and it wouldn't be that hard to type in a couple of lines in Word to create that "Post evaluation follow-up" Not to mention we only to the header and first 2 lines of the page, how do we know that's all there is??

The FBI was involved in order to get a direct trace of the IP…they knew exactly which ethernet port it came from….
And yeah, I guess I could have just typed that up in word, and yes Hobbit, some people have the same name, you can't just google people and find the one I'm talking about in Butte, MT…I'll look it up on the hospitals website to see if they have him or something.

If you have and suggested proof that I post, I would be glad to post it…

Well I went to the Dean of Students office yesterday to "discuss consequences and punishments" for the school. Now I have to go to some student court thing on Thursday at 5. He said that I probably won't get removed from school, but it depends on what the court decides. The court is all made up of college students here, which two advisers. I still have not heard from the police about whether I'm being charged criminally or not.

Anyway…I got back from the "trial" thing here at school. Apparently its officially called the Judicial Board of MT Tech, but who cares. So this whole J-Board, as they call it for short, consists of 3 students, Seniors I think. Anyway again, back to the story, I show up, and they introduce themselves, and then read all the information and stuff. Then they say I can plead my case, after the Dean of Students explains what happened on Saturday. He explains well, so I don't have much to input, then they ask the Dean what he thinks my punishment should be, and I go into the hall/waiting area for them to decide. They decided to go through with the Dean's suggestion. Which was that the doctor bills, and ruining my Saturday was punishment enough…BUT I have to write personal apology letters to EVERYONE involved in the incident…which is A LOT of people…like pretty much everyone that works Information Technology at my college, and the mother college. So thats like 20 people in itself…plus all the police, and shit…WHO WERE JUST DOING THEIR JOBS ANYWAY!!!….geez

Oh well, at least I didn't get kicked out of school…or fined but the school…

BUT….we STILL haven't heard back from the police, and I'm hoping that I don't…

Alrighty, well, I got the letter from the college yesterday saying who all I have to send apology letters too.
Not as bad as they made me think, there is only 8 people on the list:

So all and all….not too bad….except I don't know how much the medical bill is yet…or if the police are pressing charges

And my dad found out I'm not on his insurance…so…I gotta pay for the blood test and urine tests, and the 3 hours or so I spent in the E.R. :S darn

Make sure to ask exactly how you got accused or whatever. Maybe we'll find out how often (if ever) Jagex actually reads the appeals :D

And they said that Jagex contacted the police here, who contacted the ISP, who contacted the school, who traced it to my room. Now we gotta get interviewed, under video surveillance, and then the tapes sent to the FBI…I think…he wasn't sure about the FBI part, and he said he didn't know if he was investigating a crime or not…

Do you know whats going to happen after the interview?

wow that sucks, good luck being interrigated, and don't let them trick you, I was interrigated by a cop once, they had mr and my friend together asking us questions, then he took me in a room without my friend and tried getting me to confess to something, he said that my friend already confessed, which was a lie because I was with my friend the whole time and my friend never said anything, then the cop told me that after asking a few questions. Not saying they always try to trick everyone, but just be careul what you say.

Sounds like that's something to get out of by just going through it, maybe I'm wrong…

I knew your story was true when I remembered when Markus told me that when he appealed with an appeal that was full of all kinds of… "negative appeal content", he got a respond saying that stuff like that isn't allowed and that if he'd continue he'd might have to contact a local lawyer or something like that.

yes suicide is against the law..and you can and will be charged if they stop you.

Suicide is the only thing that isn't illegal to do but illegal to think about, how they gonna charge you if your dead?? lol

but I'm not sure if it's illegal in all states I think it is though, seems like one of those things that's a federal? crime, I think it's federal anyway where it's illegal in all states.

Nothing'll happen, they cant charge you with anything because
1) suicide - your not dead…?
2) attempted suicide - no proof of any actual attempt, and hopefully no actual attempt :)
3) I dont think theres many laws against falsifying a video game ban appeal, cause thats just ridiculous

You should try to fish for some information about how jagex contacted them n stuff, I like that idea:D

I don't know how that can be viewed as a threat. and certain flavors scare suicidal people and they think there skin is gonna kill them?? weird. well i guess i can see the skin killing themself because if you kill yourself you do it to yourslef however you choose and like…I don't know but it's kinda like your skin kills you.

It is only 'wrong' in certain religions… Committing suicide isn't against the law, helping people commit suicide is. Which is why JageX investigates this appeal - the parents might sue JageX if their kid would commit suicide.

It is only 'wrong' in certain religions… Committing suicide isn't against the law, helping people commit suicide is. Which is why JageX investigates this appeal - the parents might sue JageX if their kid would commit suicide.

suicide is actually illegal, but there is no way to charge a dead person. attempted is also illegal, however rarely fetches jail time. it's usualy jus counseling for your problems. And honestly, this could easily be classed as extortion. You said u would carry out an act(suicide) harmful to jagex, unless your demands(account unbanned) were carried out. And yes, someone killing themselves over Runescape would hurt their image, make national news and be an all around bad thing.

niiiiiice. I had a new idea, that was less then a suicide, but more then a "i'm crying". I was thinking about a seizure. It's nothing to joke about, but I've heard that when people hear tragic news, they sometimes have seizures. Sure it might be fishy that 50 people happen to have "seizures" all when they get banned, but it might actually be dumb enough to work. Once you have a seizure, you are prone to more and more each time. Like I said, I'm not using this a joke, but it could be another safer scapegoat.

My dad is a pretty cool guy, so I called him up after I got out, and asked him about health insurance (to pay for the bills….) and he asked me what was up, and I explained it, and he just told me to be more careful with what I say on the internet…

Well I went to the Dean of Students office yesterday to "discuss consequences and punishments" for the school. Now I have to go to some student court thing on Thursday at 5. He said that I probably won't get removed from school, but it depends on what the court decides. The court is all made up of college students here, which two advisers. I still have not heard from the police about whether I'm being charged criminally or not.

Anyway…I got back from the "trial" thing here at school. Apparently its officially called the Judicial Board of MT Tech, but who cares. So this whole J-Board, as they call it for short, consists of 3 students, Seniors I think. Anyway again, back to the story, I show up, and they introduce themselves, and then read all the information and stuff. Then they say I can plead my case, after the Dean of Students explains what happened on Saturday. He explains well, so I don't have much to input, then they ask the Dean what he thinks my punishment should be, and I go into the hall/waiting area for them to decide. They decided to go through with the Dean's suggestion. Which was that the doctor bills, and ruining my Saturday was punishment enough…BUT I have to write personal apology letters to EVERYONE involved in the incident…which is A LOT of people…like pretty much everyone that works Information Technology at my college, and the mother college. So thats like 20 people in itself…plus all the police, and shit…WHO WERE JUST DOING THEIR JOBS ANYWAY!!!….geez

Oh well, at least I didn't get kicked out of school…or fined but the school…

BUT….we STILL haven't heard back from the police, and I'm hoping that I don't…

I have done my share of interrogations with the police and I found out from experience that not saying anything is the best way to go…just tell him you dont know whats going on or whatever because whatever you say doesnt help you at all they just try to twist your stories to make it even worse.

I did something similar except :

A week later, police comes into my room and takes me to some kind of investigation crap.
They ask me stuff : "How long have you felt like this ?" and "How did you intend to proceed ?"

Then I go home.

Next day I go to the hospital, some kind of nice lady asked me to tell her everything.

She said my pulse was incredibly high (of course, kind of scared when you just do an appeal for a [CENSOR] game and get into plenty of law and police stuff.

So I told her how it was…

I had to sleep at the hospital that night in order for them to do some "checks".

I woke up, they asked me if I made any dreams or if I felt needs for illegal stuff. They take a blood test on me.

I went home.


But I didn't have to pay… Yet, your thing seems more serious (FBI ?!)…

Well now my appeals are more like "Sorry, didn't intend to actually do it, it was so tempting." and stuff.

That sucks. I cant believe it, but those kinds of suicide notes/threats should be taken seriously. I had a neighbor who killed himself with a gun last year and it was pred shocking to hear about. He had no threats like that. But, they do want to make sure that if an individual does feel that way, that they check to help that person. I do understand that u know never do that again. Many people said that you probably got investigated because of college. I doubt that was the reason. They wouldn't just see a suicide appeal and be like, let's check if he's from a college and if he is lets call the bronze 5-0.

They probably detect appeals with keywords such as "kill", "bomb", "suicide", so if you tried a highly misspelled suicide appeal they wouldn't find out, but you still would not get unbanned because of the bot's auto deny

They spent thousands of dollars, wasted time and money that A: the police could have used to get someone actually dangerous off the streets B: the doctors could have used to treat someone who actually needed help and C: all other people involved could have actually used to do something useful, not to mention paying the peoples' wages. Whoah… I got a phone call once and they asked if Im 18 years old. I said im not and they said they would call my parents. They really did (i saw the same number in my dad's phone) but my dad didn't talk about it with me. Lol I think it was about watching porn but I don't remember if had sent any suicidal appeals to jagex…

I have sent suicidal appeals to Jagex a couple of times (I was stoned with a friend haha, our suicide accs got banned so he suggested following a rumor he heard.) and I never heard a word about it. I've heard stories (not just the one on this website) about Jagex trolling and calling the police, but it never happened to me, a year later. Have no fear, it was probably a prank call.
