is it possible to edit the S.M.A.R.T. script to make it load in low detail?

Normally it will load low detail to begin with. If you are in doubt, then do a search (ctrl+f) in scar for SmartSetup and where it finds it (it might be SmartSetupEx, but just continue with this), if the first boolean/second value inside the brackets is false, then it's low detail .e.g SmartSetup('blah', FALSE, False) means that it is loading it low detail, while if it is SmartSetup('blah', TRUE, False) then it is loading high detail and you need to change the TRUE to a False (though it won't be capitalised, I was just doing that to make sure you knew which one it was).
