Soft Clay method:

Clay= 92-97 gp
You can purchase clay on the grand exchange, or use one of the handy auto scripts to mine yourself some clay. Now here's the boring part which makes this method a little tedious, thats why if you are good with scripting i suggest you make a script for this and perhaps share it. You need buckets of water to combine the clay to make soft clay. Right clicking the clay will allow you to make "X" amount of soft clay saving you from having to click one at a time.

Now with your soft clay head up to the Grand exchange.

Soft Clay= 170-187gp

Thats almost doubling your money!!

Lets look at an example.

100k investment to buy your clay

Thats apx. 1000 clay
Once you combine your buckets of water and turn it into soft clay and sell it
for 187 gp each.

your new worth will be 187k!

Note: This method is the method I use when I need arrows for ranging, need a quick batch of food for training, etc… You can become rich off this, but you will be combining a lot of buckets of water. As long as have 100k you can make a quick 87k profit for arrows, food, and whatever it is you may need for your auto-er.

Another method that is similar to the above, but not quite as profitable is Mith bars. I've tried this method and the it doesn't give as much profit as the above, but if you're looking for smithing xp, as well as a little cash then this works great.

Buy the coal and Mith or mine it.
Coal= 180gp
Mith= 150-190

Mith bar=1184 gp

You will need 5 coal per mith bar so that adds up to
coal x 5=900 gp + the one mithe ore = 1050 gp.

thats about 100 gp profit per ore.
Like i said its not as beneficial as the clay method but it can give you good smithing xp, I used it with Irokies Al-kharid smelter, and it worked wonders!

I hope you found this tutorial helpful and hope it funds you're autoing needs as well as mine.

Most people want the coal and mith as xp, but in my case i just need the cash $$. If i want xp in mining or smithing auto :P

I've also found merchanting to become a dead aspect of the game. I used to make tons of gp within a few hours, but with that feature practicaly gone its impractical to merchant anymore. If you want a skill that makes alot of money i would focus on fishing and use an auto fisher.

hey if you want a better method of money than the clay I would suggest if ur member mining pure ess. You can get great SRL junior member ess scripts out there and if your high mining lvl you get so fast I made 100k in about an hour with an ess miner ..

Wouldn't it be more profitable to mine ess and with 99 runecrafting turn it into air runes? Or if your a member nats?

Yes, mith bars take 4 coal, not 5. And soft clay can be used for construction and for crafting, but I think the primary use of it is for members to make Tele tabs. People can essentially infused a teleport spell into the clay to make a tablet, so that you only need to take 1 item with you to teleport instead of taking a whole set of teleportation runes.

It would take a while to fill all the buckets w/ water and use them on clay.. I just buy Vials from the G/E and fill them with water.

wouldn't be smarter to buy iron and 2 times coal to smelt and earn 160+gp per bar, and its faster to make cos your making 8 bars per cycle instead of 5 bars with mith?

such as? the only ways ive come accross are, teletab making, clay softning and logs to plank running. Or are there better ways? Ive made 8m clay softning using hermpies clay softner, but it is slow

Yes, nice idea… I did something simular in huge amouts… I bought 1000 plain pizzas, 1000 anchivies, combined them and sold them… I didn't get as much profit as you did, but I traind cooking alot with it… :p

Awesome clay idea, I've been pondering ways to make money for my new account and i'll give this a try.

What I have been doing though is collecting hides. Cows are easily killed and the hide sells rather well.

Iam curently working on a clay miner and banker in the varock bank nearest the grand exchnage all my other scripts I can do becouse MY srl wont work it keeps giving me hints and all togethure the hints make it so I odnt even use srl!

(~also working on a clay sofener and grand exchange seller alls you need is 14 empty buckets!~)

you could easily pay a newer person on free world to fill the buckets full of water for a small amount of money….its alot to him tho….but im lazy lol

The best side of this method is, in my oppinion, that anyone can use it, because it doesn't have any level requirements.

hmm…….. I've seen alot of these posts with clay and soft clay and i've never really tried any of them besides planking oaks. Maybe i'll make more cash.

this is probably the best way to make money for your "noobs" so that you can buy other stuff for skills… i did clay for 3 hours and had 600k when i was mining my own clay, its just amazing!

or mine it: with nature runes and superheat magic
nature rune=240
coal+mith(190)+nature: 610
you gain: 1184-610: 574gp for every mith bar …

its a good idea but why not just use an essence miner and leave ur comp on all night

Wow that clay is friggin awesome!! I made a new guy.. banked everything.. mined 20 clay.. used my bucket in the bank.. wet it all. sold.. made like a few k.. bought more clay.. wet it.. repeated this like 4 more times also buying like 200 buckets and filling in edgeville since the bank is really close to the well. but now my lvl 3 is standing on about 100k or so in clay and 30k in cash. Thank you so much. best idea i've seen

Use Bank Notes….


There is no way this can make you even close to 200-500k an hour.

I've tested the clay one and in one hour I made 1k soft clay. Thats like 70-80k profit.

Also, you haven't been manually mining the clay have you? I mined mine manually and earned about 220 in one hour. Stressful to convert to soft-clay though.

If you open your bank window, at the bottom of the bank window there are 4 icons. One of them is the option to withdraw things in bank notes.

Preferably you use a script to mine and soften the clay.

im gonna try out the clay idea right now, it sounds really good.

Great but people will need a high smithing lvl. So I suggest to start with 100K and buy 100 Copper / 100 Tin ore. and smelt it in KA -> sell bronze bars.
U will earn money and get exp.

Actually it is not that hard to sell at all.
I sold 2k clay the other day and it sold literally in 5 secs.

This is an extremely slow method… It's not too good. You're better off smithing the bars into plates and then high alching them.

It's a great idea, especially for low levels. However, I've found in practice that it takes far too long and is extremely boring.

just like hobohotel33 said, fishing is probably the best way to make money, since pking came out, raw and cooked fish prices went higher then before.

For me, i think fishing sharks are awesome, but its just so boring. Too bad there is no shark fisher.

The soft clay idea is great. I think mithril ore went up alot though.

mithril has gone up on the g.e. so its more profitable now then when you wrote the guide, great guide too

Very nice idea but it takes a bit long to sell those clays and if the price drops you will be only making minus :(

i tried to use the clay method but it is seriously sloww…. like omg its like crazy
i think wcing yews make much more then making soft clays unless there is an auto for it.
btw if u are really gonna use the clay method go to falador west bank…(i think the one not close to the mining guild) and get 14 buckets… first of all get 14 buckets and normal clay and go to the water pump next to the barber shop. fill up the water, use it on your clay and fill it up again.
this way you can make 28 soft clays per trip. it is just a little trip i figured out hope you will enjoy it:)

Nice, Shared Many times though. Soft Clay and Regular clay make good money for new accounts. DOnt suggest it for high levels

I tried it today, started with 30k, tried with 200 gp at the start, i earned 300 and something, then i bought clay for around 10k then i had 45k, after that i saw it was good, then i bought clay for all 45k transformed it all to soft clay, now i have 77k and the claw was sold instantly :D


45k clay is around 400 clay and took me exactly 30 minutes
and i am only lvl 25 btw.

I think a planker would go off its nutter since if ur leveling construction you have money and if you have money you dont mind spending it so i reakon planks would go nutter.

And for those of you wondering how quick it is to make 1k of clay, I put a calculater on my script and it goes from 700-900 an hour, so no where near the profit people think :p. But my script has frequent sleeping as it is very effective against randoms.

one of my friends did the mith bar one when he heard about it, unfortunatly he didnt check the current g.e prices and ended up spending about 3 mil on ores, to find out that he actually lost money because of the prices… he was pretty mad lol

kbot has a clay script, but the prices must be updated, it is extremely inaccurate lol, bumer. not quite as much profit now i dont think.
