Welcome To another Excellent Tut By Me Strikerx25.

Today I'm going to teach you how to change a file type to anything for example:

You have a .iso file and you want to change it to a .exe file but don't want to downloading anything.

Here We go

Step One: Create A new file in your documents and settings named whatever you want it to be and put the file you want changed (only one file at a time).

Step Two: Go to Start and click run when run comes up type CMD and a black window should appear .

Step Three: Type (or copy and paste) cd C:\Documents and Settings\(whatever you named the new file)

Step Four: To find you have got the right file type [dir] (without brackets) and a list should come up of all the files in the folder. If its not correct repeat steps 3-4

Step Five: Type or Copy and paste rename *.* *.zip Note: Change .zip to whatever you want the file type to be.

Open the folder and BAM it should be whatever file extension you changed it to :)

If anyone is having Problems Post here and i'll add images

Thanks For Reading.

Nice! Finally found a tut on changing extentions. I never managed to change .mp3 extentions which were actually RAR. Thanks so much!

You could also, go to Tools –> Folder Options –> View, and make sure that the box that says Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked, then you can just rename any extension to what you like :D!

Just so that you are all aware. this is not changing filetypes but just renaming file extensions.. There is a big difference.

Isn't that basically just renaming the file? I don't think that actually does anything bro

Not really. File extensions are different from the actual file type, as certain applications may read an mp3 file as gibberish even though it's actually an RAR file. Of course you can rename an mp3, to a wav and play it, but that depends on the music software you're using. Because it can recognize it's type and play it like that.
