No Ventrillo is an VoIP program. Just download the mIrc one..

Alright, well, I got a nooby Irc problem…I'm using xChat btw

So, I tried to register my nick "Brain" and it says it's already registered, but I don't remember doing that ever. So I try to "log-in" using my full list of passwords, and it rejects every pass I throw at it, hmmm

And while changing my default name to it, it never says that someone else owns the account, nor do I have to log into it to be able to use it…

Sorry if this is super stupid or something, I'm not sure I even need to do it, I just kinda want to :p

EDIT: I realize I guess I coulda just asked for help in the irc channel…but no one is active now, and I wanted to get this in writing before I went to bed ;)

Yeah, that would explain it, I guess I thought that SRL were the only ones using it, but since it's based on the whole server.

Wow, it's actually an irc. I'll be on once I get internets. I've actually been waiting for this (sorry, I know it's old, but it's new to me).

I've never been in one of these, I'll try setting it up for me tomorrow after school. :p

I registered through PJIRC and everything. But when you do, to register your nick you also need your email. /msg NickServ register <password> <email>. Just thought I would let you know.

Yea that is what I used to have but then my 30 day free trial ran out and I don't want to pay $20 for it. SO i just used mIRC, i am just happy that i got on!

Usually it is.
Unless you're on the wrong server… it happened to me once.

If you get 404 error, 403 Forbidden, "Image Corrupt", reload the image; that happens when you load right as the bot parses the image ;)

U forgot Chatzilla. It's an IRC addon for Firefox, and it's really great. Not too advanced, can't connect to all channels, but it has File-transfer and skins as well.

Wish there was a way to get on this at school.. I'm pretty sure my school blocks the port(s) it needs.

If you school blocks port 6667 then you can try Mibbit which works on port 80 which most schools don't block

Newer versions of xCHAT have Rizon preprogrammed. I will update anyways though.

The register command takes two parameters: your desired password and then an email address used to verify the account. You need to input both of those.

I think most people use mIRC, XChat, or irssi to chat.

I must be doing something wrong with mIRC then… I'll try reinstalling it.

Perhaps we could add some about irssi. Since it is probably the best client for *NIX based operating systems.

irssi is the best, mostly because it doesn't require silly GTK+ to be installed. Does have a steeper learning curve, but it doesn't take long to learn how to switch windows/get used to using it.

Since I am bored, easy ways to get irssi running and connected:

– Windows:
1) Download http://irssi.org/files/irssi-win32-0.8.12.exe
2) Run exe, extract to an easy safe location.
3) Double click the irssi.bat file

– Ubuntu/Debian variants:
1) sudo apt-get install irssi
2) `irssi' in terminal (minus the `'s of course)

– Gentoo:
1) sudo emerge irssi
2) irssi

– Mac
1) MacPorts users on Mac OS X may use "sudo port install irssi" to compile the irssi package.
2) irssi

– After installing, first connect to network:
1) /connect irc.rizon.net
1a) If you can't connect using #1 method, try /connect -ssl irc.rizon.net 9999
2) /msg NickServ register PASSWORD [email]email@address.com[/email]
3) /join #SRL

– Reconnecting to network:
1) /connect irc.rizon.net
1a) If you can't connect using #1 method, try /connect -ssl irc.rizon.net 9999
2) /msg NickServ IDENTIFY PASSWORD
3) /join #SRL


– Useful commands/stuff to remember:
At bottom of screen, you will see numbers.
1) [Act: <numbers>] - displays active rooms you are joined. If a number is red on the list, it either means you were "hilighted" in a room, or have gotten a private message. Type /win NUMBER to go to that room.
1a) If it was a private message, and you're done, type "/q"; this will close the window, or you can /win go #SRL to return back to #SRL.
2) Don't take IRC seriously. People are abusive at times. Just try to have a good time.

You don't need a mIRC script for that, silly.

when the network selection window arises at startup go to the server you want (add if neccessary) click edit and then there should be an option about connecting automatically at startup, check this.

In the same edit window you can specify channels to auto join and specify your password if you want to be auto identified.

Note to specify several channels you seperate them with commas (note: no spaces), ie. #srl,#simba,#etc

I wanna say your talking about the '/Nick Yourname' Part? If so I would try just typing /msg NickServ REGISTER password email, than you should just have to confirm it.
