But don't blame me for anything that could happen…
I have had this done to one of my profiles that has 2k friends for months now and it seems pretty safe.

Update:
New sample profile all people can view! (Not set to private)
Fixed some things i had left out.

To edit a table, such as your top friends, you will have to set the real table to hidden.
Then you make another one that has the same coding, which will allow you to edit what is in it.
So you can make your friend count whatever number you want.
Or even say "I have no friends"

Here is what i did to change my friend count-
To hide your top friends table put this code anywhere:

But before you do that you need to look at the coding that makes your top friends table.
Right click on you profile and click "View Source"
You will have to find where it is (use Ctrl + f and search for something that is located in you friends table to see where it is)
Copy that area of coding that makes up your top friends and paste it in your about me section.
It will begin with <table… blah blah…. and end with </table>, telling it that it is a table.

You have to take out the beginning and ending of this section before you paste it into your about me.
If you don't do this, the hide code will just hide this table too.

Once you take out those two parts, it doesn't know it is a table anymore!
So it can't get hidden.

Just fill in a number where it says how many friends you have.
You can also change other people's names on your top friends.
For example you could change someone's name to "I worship (insert your name here)"

This works with your comments and everything else too.
You can change what people have commented to you and how many comments you have, even make a fake comment with some practice.

This is an easier way to do it, but it will only be visible to you. (good for tricking a friend at your house)
Right click again and hit "View Srource"
Click save as.
Save it as WhateverYouWant.Html
(I think if you are not using firefox you have to check "all files" and "unicode"
before saving)
When you open up this file, it looks exactly like the page you were on.
Now you can right click on the file and click edit.
Use ctrl + f again to find any text you want to change, change it, then save it.

This can be done on messages from people to change what the message says.
I got a message form my friend's girlfriend and i made it say that she is with like 12 other guys. Then i showed it to him for april fools =)

Ohh i forgot to mention i ran into that problem, but only when trying to mess with the top friends table.
I would try to use the hide code, and it would hide the real one AND the one i had made.
So i had to take out some of the ending part of the code.
Just experiment around until it isn't hidden.
I know why this happens but i can't explain the problem because i don't know much about html.

I know you aren't allowed to have code that covers up MySpace adverts.

if its the hidey-code, could you post? since you've already done it and know why it happens.

No you take out part of the end of the new table that you make. (the one you get from "view source")
I'm going to redo this and post what it was i had to do.
I forgot all about that part.

I updated my first post.
It should work now because i followed it on another profile as if i didn't know how to do it and it worked for me.

EDIT: if i change my top friends, will it work?, cuz all of that stuff is like…hard coded in.

The down side to this is that the table you made isn't real.
So the functions that load that table every time your profile is viewed won't do what they are supposed to do.
This means if someone changes their name or something on your top friends, it won't show up changed.

And if you want to change your top friends, you will have to get the code over again and re paste it.

This worked great its so fun messing with names.. i tried to change the picture bit it didnt work, is it possible to do it at all?

Just do that to any elements you don't want, and then maybe create a few tables using the "position: absolute; left [xx]px; top: [xx]px;" thing :)
