Heya, and welcome to my thread about runescape economy and what the history of runescape can tell us about whats going to happen to runescape economy.

Now that probably sounds retarded and your wondering why this n00b is posting this but hey I think I'm right so I'll try my best to explain to you what my theory is on runescapes economy…

Ok, so I was sitting in history class actually paying attention and noticed that we were on the subject of economy. I opened up my notebook and quickly wrote down the lecture XP I about died lol but at lunch today I read the notes and realized that runescape is just like the earth.. and that it's economy is in recession just like america is. So in the notes my teacher had wrote that economy is like a cycle and a cycle always repeats itself. which means that Runescape is either in the depression stage of the cycle or runescape is in the recession stage. So sometime in the next 2-4months runescape players will start to notice that the economy is shifting and more valuable items are being seen a lot in the world of runescape. Now with that said Runescapes main objective is to work on summoning, PvP Mini games, and Some other none important stuff. But in the article were they mentioned the PvP Mini Games, they have a cool little hint about items go read it. This is the end to the Depression/Recession in runescape I believe.

If you liked this REP++ lol if you didnt REP– Lol I dont mind :P

Plus this probably sounds really stupid because I suck at writing :/ lol

Peace.

Actually, that's not the case. RS has a constant increase in money so it's in a constant state of slow inflation (very slow though and only with mainstream items). If RS increased the amount of items you could buy via shops or had a more draining use of money (such as decay times for armour and weapons) then it wouldn't be that case, but as there's a lot more money available, people spend most of theirs by shifting it to other people, so nothing is lost. Of course, the influx of newly made items does reduce this inflation, but as accounts also lay dormant after buying stuff, it really doesn't affect it too much. The only items except from this are obviously consumables, but due to their increased demand, theirs an increased production, so it still does more or less even out and follow the slow inflation rule.
This is all works out well, except every year or so there's a point of depression because of updates or large amounts high level producers leaving the game, thus decreasing the amount of new items which raises them and people have less money to spend as they have to buy the items they want at a higher price. Then, as demand reduces due to the fact that people don't have as much money to spend, prices start to decrease until they are the same as before the slow inflation. So, as you see, RS's economey is actually very different to ours in that the times vary greatly with very slow inflation and a quick depression. Ofcourse, this is all theoretical as well, but I find it useful for my hundreds of secret merchanting accounts, err, I mean friends accounts.. That works…

Mixster very well put :)

GE I think was a good thing if you sold all your stuff high right before the installation of it..

But GE is pretty dumb lol…

The GE is like Communism. Prices are basically set besides the slight inflation that occurs over time. It is basically good for the poor and bad for the rich. It made to help new players mostly and people who are too lazy wait around for the highesst bidder. :p

Nice theory. I believe the g.e is destroying the prices of things. Remember when prices could move freely, and people had a wide array of prices they could buy lobs for.. say pking..? If a person wanted 100 lobs fast, they would pay 250+.. but now youc ant without moving over the gay exchange limit.. =[

True that, the whole economy has fallen I think, even though *us* autoers didn't help the game in the eyes of runescape, I think it balanced it because we were one of the main sources for wood, or ores, or fish.. just my thought

If you don't notice, the US economy also has the same problem (money coming from nowhere), which is attributed to the goverment printing money.

You all make it sound like the GE is Stalin! It does define price, but isn't that a good thing? There should be a generally-accepted value, so people stop changing prices around, claiming that's the new RS price.

I kind of like the idea of autoers evening out the economy. ;)
