I'll hold my vote for now, not sure

Did he ask you why he wasn't ssrl? He asked me..

23-3-2008 19:48:16 Hy71194 nielsie Can you tell me, because I can't access the SSRL section of the forum, is there still reason to beleave I cheated the SRL Stats? :P
23-3-2008 19:48:35 nielsie Hy71194 hm?
23-3-2008 19:50:22 Hy71194 nielsie IDK, me and Zypher were talking today (he never told me he was SSRL, I was just guessing, ya know?) and I was wondering why i wasn't one, and he though that people proably think I cheated my SRL Stats for my caver.
23-3-2008 19:51:04 nielsie Hy71194 do you think you should be one?
23-3-2008 19:52:01 Hy71194 nielsie Well yes, I feel I have put enough work into SRL to deserve it, but I am certainly not gonna ask you, because it is against the rules to do such a thing, and I am not greedy like that.
23-3-2008 19:52:16 nielsie Hy71194 ok
23-3-2008 19:59:36 Hy71194 nielsie So whats up?

Hmm not sure. Neutral vote for now.

Zephyr didn't say that in any kind of "leak mode" as far as I know him, but also as far as I know we aren't allowed to tell people we are SSRL, even outside the forums. I even kept it secret from my grandma when she came and looked where am I surfing - I just started to scroll up and down rapidly and tell her to go away :D

I'll join the club and be neutral for now.

Also, I don't think script popularity should affect anything.

I don't want to offend Harry nor piss anyone else off, - even it's not that SSRL would be only judged by their scripting, I would give him a yes in an SRL Member application, which I consider far away from SSRL poll.

If you look at his code for example in the caver, he seems to use what is the least needed to make a working code for the thing, I don't see any things there that he's gotten a lamp over his head about, it's just a dtm there, a findcolortolerance here, etc if you know what I mean?

In an SRL Member Application, going by the requirements is the thing, but scripting, talking about it at an SSRL poll, can't be just above the SRL Member requirements.

Maybe I'm wrong, but for now that's my opinion - leaning towards a no.

He has contributed a lot, been here as long as me, but I cannot say now that "yea let's give him a chance" etc, what chance? That could be said in an SRL Member app, because there he'd be applying for a better learning environment, but SSRL section isn't a new learning environment, though maybe you may become more familiar with people, but other than that it's the Super-tut section.

Now I'm asking myself why did I write that much even it wasn't an argument @ anything lol.

Also I hope I don't have the wrong idea about SSRL Membership, if so, I hope someone comes and changes it.

Merlijn, (Hope you don't mind if I call you this on priviate message; if you mind let me know and I'll stop :p )

How do I allow my avatar to allow bigger sizes? :/ I wanna make my avvy be the http://www.srl-forums.com/forum/images/avatars/Lurker.png but the remote file is too large :garfield:
Must I earn it? ;)

Thanks,

Yeh, the larger avatars come with a certain rank… :)

May I guess SSRL?

Just to get things straight, do you still feel I cheated the stats for my caver? Cause IMO that is the stupidest thing to do ever. Run it every once in a while, you will see it works flawless (h)

Thanks,
~ Harry

Nope, I don't think that? To be honest I don't care about SRL-Stats. ;)

Oh. Ok :p Well who cares about it in the SSRL section? Lots of rumors are going around …

Really? I've heard none.

I'll stay neutral for now…

I say no.

I don't like his attitude, he spams, he asked people (including me) why he isn't SSRL and somehow I get the feeling he would be the reason some stuff gets leaked. Not saying he would leak it but it happened before that someone somehow got his pass…

Ejjman

A good attitude/nice personality. AKA, opposite personality of YoHoJo (j/k lol )

-JAD in thread 'What to look for in an SSRL member'

I said no because his attitude isn't very good towards people. The way he says stuff in people's face about them is not professional in anyway, and then later ALWAYS using the excuse I was just kidding then the infamous :p sign. No way for me.

When I saw this thread, those two things came up to my mind. He's rather spamish ans as Bob said, his scripts aint that good (not that that's the only thing we're looking for for an SSRL member).

Well, interesting…

I Never knew he ask's everyone why he's not SSRL..

Well, i would agree he may not be so advanced.
But his scripts seem to work good and he puts effort towards things (like letting everyone know he should be SSRL) jk :p

I would say he is worthy with a few adjustments.

JAD

2008-03-26 19:19:58

Maturity isn't being serious all the time, but knowing when to be.

IMO, Hy isn't mature. He thinks by asking if the stats thing is why he's not in SSRL brings up in peoples minds "Hey, maybe he should be SSRL", but it only makes him seem foolish because most of us, or at least me, have already considered him for it already and it doesn't need to be brought up by him for us to poll for him.

IMO his stats with the almighty "fight caves runner" has made him a little too cocky and arrogant, kind of like Pentti with his MCMAB or whatever. He seems a little too impressed with himself.

No from me.

BTW n3ss3s, you're asking if you're voting right, you seem to be thinking in the same perspective as the rest of us. If you want, you can check out the req's sticky I made, but it doesn't seem like you have to.

I vote yes. I may be the only one, and it sounds highly unlikely coming from me (seeing as I hate the guy) but I think he loves srl, and has advanced a lot scripting-wise. His attitude is getting a lot better, and although his scripts are simple, they seem to be fairly flawless. Isn't that what counts in a script? I believe he's more of a simplest scripter. I think he's earned a right to be here amongst us.

On a side note, he clearly couldn't have cheated on his srl stats (because the stats were steadily flowing in on a daily basis and he has a dialup connection which is dis-connected 90% of the day), although somebody else may have cheated on his behalf.

I vote yes.

Anyways, I voted no. I think he has the skills to but not quite the maturity, though I believe he is close. I'm a strong believer in that quote but I still don't believe he is quite there yet.

But this really is a useless post as it has already pretty much been decided….

2008-03-29 16:20:55

I know Harry as a friend, and he seems sincere enough. He has never asked me why he isn't SSRL because he doesn't know I am one, so in some form he isn't runnin' around begging and whining to everybody he sees.

I saw somebody annoyed about him saying something and then adding "Just kidding". What's wrong with that? If "Just kidding" wasn't invented, where the hell would I have been? Correct, the inner circle of hell!

And is being an advanced scripter so important? My scripts are advanced simplicity. Read the basic SCAR-tutorials and one about DTM's, and bam you could make a script like me. Maybe being advanced is precisely to know when and what is most efficient. As you see, his "simplicity" runs for 100 hours or more. So maybe he is simple… But his script works for longer than most, if not all, others.

I won't vote yes for him just yet, but neither would I block him from entering at any given point. I think he would benefit from a PM regarding the subject, telling him what SSRL really is all about, and that he shouldn't ask for it, sent from an admin, mod, dev - You know.

@N3ss3s+JAD: Thinking like the rest isn't what I would call "good" thinking. A group would be useless if all were exactly alike, right?

Feel free to hate and/or criticize my post.

Then he will know that he was even being considered. And that defeats the purpose. Part of the test is NOT whining about getting in, so by telling him would be like whispering him an answer to the exam.

Personally, I think we (you/I?) should tell him why he is not an SSRL-Member.
It would not be whispering, but pointing him in the right direction.
Kids need to be pointed in the right direction. :garfield:

Good point, Hobbit. Maybe it should be done in a more subtle way, like when he gets onto the subject you silently slip a notice in, about what it takes.

Or we can do as Wizzy says and refurbish the lovely saying "What daddy says is always right".

Either way, I think he needs to know. Like the incident with R0b0t some time ago, when he got a PM.

If he is sent a PM aimed at setting him straight, it means he will one day get in, which will nullify the no-asking-for-ssrl rule, which defeats most of the purpose of ssrl?
