Need C++ compiler

JAD

Can anybody link me to a good (and free) C++ compiler? I've found some sites by googling it, but they were all either trial versions and/or had extremely complex downloading instructions (I'm directionally declined, seriously :p).

So if anybody could link me to one and possibly (?) link me to the direct download for windows, that'd be amazing.

Muchos Gracias.

See, I go to here and i don't know which one to click. I know I'm stupid but I just need a little direction more than the links :p

Thanks very much though.

Edit: and do you think turboexplorer is one of the better compilers for a C++ noob?

Dev-C++ is quite alright. :)

i find vc++ to be quite easy. Though i do use turbo delphi which is the same as c++ just for delphi. So i like both of them. Never tried dev c++ though

and for turbo delphi-kind of a little hasslish to register, but oh well

I use Dev-C++, and I suggest you get it.

DEV C++ ftw. It's simple to use and does a great job compiling.

the compile dev-cpp uses is mingw, which is the windows version of GCC

MingW

normally you use it on the command line, but dev-cpp has a nice GUI around it

Yea, I used it a few times to compile some crap. Commandline ftw :)

Borland C++ Builder, good commercial IDE :)

I recommend Code::Blocks.

I'd also recommend setting alight that Windows crapola.

Theres some tuts I've found that use it… And a book I have.

But I use the microshit's VC++ 2008, but I think Jason's win.

nothing beats g++ and vim… :D

Compiler = program that converts source code to machine language.
IDE = programing tool that aids in the creation of source code.

Compiler != IDE
Dev-C++ == IDE
g++ == compiler

Visual studios is one of the best IDEs available, Microsoft offers the express edition for your pleasure. For windows programming I would recommend that.

Dev-C++ is a good IDE but has fallen into a state of no development (pretty much dead). But should get the job done.

Vim is very useful once you learn how to use it.

g++ is probably the best free compiler around. Dev-C++ uses an older version of it to do its compiling. If you want a windows version of it, you need to get the MingW libraries as well.

Have to agree. Although I dont use C++, I do a bit of C#, and having all the express editions I know that none of them lack in any detail.

Although, saying that, I have also used Dev-C++, and although it is out of development, it is still a fully working and extremely efficient compiler.

Download both, there both free ;)
