People are not getting socially disconnected, the form of sociality is changing.
I completely agree. And so do my parents, which is why they don't yell at me for being on the computer at all hours, they know that I'm doing my version of hanging out with my friends. Even if they're people I've never actually met :P
HOWEVER, if you take the question as simply observing a more "traditional" view of sociality, then my answer is "sort-of". While I know many people, myself included, who are not wholly (yes, that is actually how you spell it) comfortable being physically around new people (due to the fact that I'm not that good at reading body language and facial expressions. My friends joke that I have autism, though I don't exhibit the other signs for it). And I know plenty of people who are uncomfortable around EVERYONE. But then again, I know plenty of people who are incredibly outgoing.
This may be normal, I do not know, since I am neither that old, an expert on the subject, or anyone particularly interested in said subject. The reason I say "sort-of" instead of no, to the question, is because of the changes I've observed. When I was younger, almost everyone who I know now who is like me socially (myself included) were incredibly outgoing and very socially active. Heck, I practically lived at my friends' houses instead of my own. But we've now become what I mentioned above.
So I say "sort-of", as I can see how people would interpret my experiences (and their own) one way or the other.
If I didn't make sense with this, please let me know. I don't usually answer questions such as this in writing on-line, I'm much more comfortable with this kind of discussion face to face, despite my usual reservations. As such my answer would probably be much more eloquent speaking than writing.
