Hello all,
I'm working on a scar project as you can see form the thread title and I realised I just can't do this all by myself, as I have no knowledge in certain stuff.
I'm looking for around 5 SCAR scripters( I need someone to help with the conenction the server) and 1 Java Programmer.
Currently i'm working on a map editor, which is near to being complete.
Edit: I've attached my current source of what I've done so far. Yes I know, it's one buggy and laggy script, memory leaks and out of range errors everywhere:eek:
If you manage to fix something please post how you did it ;)*hint hint*

As in you need a server for it to connect to?
I might be able to help, do you have any ideas how it will be like ?

I was thinking more as to build the base engine first before we get into developemnt of the game play features.
@Hy71194: No, I need someone to help me code the conenction for a multi-client server as I'm not that good at SCAR's connection.

You would need a PHP coder for that? Or do you want to let scar connect to all the other players of the game?
As about the engine, I made a mario.. But I guess it kinda depends on the game what kind of engine you would like.. Like where is the camera..

I was thinking Clients-?->Server(Also made in SCAR) -via Java->SQL
EDIT: 2D view, I'll be doing it RPG-ish.
EDIT2: and by 2d I mean from the top, Pokemon type of view.

Ofcourse were going to use sockets, so we will need some pluginzors to open connections..

The server would be a bit hard to write, it'll need to be in something like C or whatever, something not intepreted and with threading support, and use sockets.
I don't think PHP is an option, a query every 50ms? It'll kill your server in notime, not to mention all the useless data you transmit. Some active communication protocol works better then. Plugin is recommend so you can create another thread which listens for the incoming server messages, and to not hang the game when we send a message.

Or use SCAR's OpenConnection?

As you say Wizzup, when I figure that out =/
Rpgmaker is a very limited tool .
Please add me on msn: evilkukka@gmail.com whoever wants to help.
I'm open to any suggestions for client server communication.

If you plan on using 32x32 graphics, I got a whole load of character & land sprited from back in the day of making MMORPG's (The character sprites even have animation for walking :)).
Anyway, will check out the code quickly and see if I can spot any improvements.
Edit: My eyes, they burn!
main.scar - add the dot - . - to the second include (you missed it out) and I think you forgot to include general in it.
mapedit.scar - I keep getting access violation problems and I think it's because of the procedures you try to run while the form is open and should maybe close the form and run them outside (will play with it for a bit). Also, may be an idea to make a 'map setup' form, so it's easier to see what the general overview of it and it will also allow you to change things and explain what each setting does.
Anyway, it's looking like a good start with lots of complicated code that I'm too tired to go through at the moment but will probably checkout tomorrow.
Lastly, for anyone else who dares, you have to unzip into your scar uncludes folder (but not into SRL) otherwsie none of the files will work as they will look into the includes folder and fail miserably.

main.scar is not really something I was working on. Just started doing something but closed it to work on the map editor.
As for mapedit.scar, I don't know what to do to get it running :s when i get the access violation it always takes me to map.scar on where I use the SafeDrawBitmap.
Yeah I should make a form for the map settings, but not right now.

Managed to get the mapeditor form kind of working. You forgot to do the SafeShowFormModal etc. So it had errors. Here's the code you need to write over your current safe form:
procedure SafeForm;
var
v: TVariantArray;
begin
setarraylength(V, 0);
ThreadSafeCall('frm1',v);
end;
procedure ShowFormModal;
begin
MapEdit.ShowModal;
end;
procedure SafeShowFormModal;
var
v: TVariantArray;
begin
setarraylength(V, 0);
ThreadSafeCall('ShowFormModal', v);
end;
then add
SafeShowFormModal;
underneath SafeForm in the main loop and lastly change
'MapEdit.Visible' to false and it should run without any errors.
Edit: I keep getting 'Out of Range' errors when saving or loading maps and I think it's because you use maps[map] but you haven't set maps anywhere, so maps still has a length of 0 as you delcared it as a dynamic array and haven't modified the length anywhere in the procedure or function. To fix it I think you need a loadAllMaps procedure or function that is then called in all of them, but I'm not sure and I wouldn't trust a word I said :)

There's LoadMaps; to load all the maps.
And i made a function called CreateBlankMap; which I think i called it before the form loads, which sets the array, and sets the variables in the memory.

If you wanted help, I think it would be best to start from scratch as most of your code is quite complex to some extent and I find it near impossible to read most of it. Also, it may be worth making the map editor in Delphi instead of Scar as it does make it a lot easier (I started to make one a while back and I got it to make a basic map with no attributes or layers though). If you didn't mind starting again, I would be happy to help, but I think it would probably be best to get the main game done before the map editor as that is a quite complex thing to do and the game itself would be much easier to make a beta version of.

The trick is to do it in scar ;). When scar cannot do it, we got the help off plugins :)

But the problem with Scar is that the built-in form maker isn't quite as easy to use as most Delphi IDE's so making it in Delphi would make it so much easier. Of course you could make it in Scar, but it would require so much extra scripting and makes so many errors (when you go wrong) it makes it pretty hard.
Edit: I thought the idea was to make the Game run in Scar - I'm talking about just the map editor outside of Scar and in Delphi.

To be honest, I never really used scar his form editor :rolleyes:. Some people indeed make DFM's in delphi and then port them to scar.
On the other hand an map editor isn't much of a GUI :p.
