Yes as disturbing as it sounds one of JaGex content developers thinks buying gold and items is like prostitution.

From the article on Wired's Blog Network Website:

"RuneScape content producer, Imre Jele, likens the purchase of virtual items and gold to prostitution"

Here is the link hope it disturbs you and makes you laugh as much as I did.

This is the article.

If you want to know… The title is what caught my attention, I had no idea that I was going to find this lmao…

the guys picture made him look pretty gay… Maybe that's why he hates prostitution, because no guy will get with him and he doesn't like girls. I still think its really wierd how he relates the two.

Prostitution is the oldest form of business ever. And prostitution isn't completely illegal either… its just "disliked" as you can imagine. So even if he is comparing real world trading to prostitution, it'll never be stopped and as I said with prostitution its not "completely illegal either… its just 'disliked'". I continue to do RWT its easy money for someone like me that plays WoW and is online a lot.

Did you know the first millionaire from doing RWT is a 19 year old girl?

JAGEX ANNOUNCES! NEW SKILL: PROSTITUTION

Why does anyone opt to purchase a glowing, virtual sword? Because the grind to acquire the sword legally simply doesn't appeal to them.

Uh, yea… duh…

Why do people buy lots and lots of gp off the internets? Because they cant be asked to take the time to get it themselves…

"I think instead of real-world trading, games have to be designed in a way that they provide enough fun while you are getting somewhere; if I am incapable of providing you with enough fun while you collect that 1000 gold for a steed, then the game is not good enough," he says.

Hence… make it better… and bring back trades… and the wilderness… AND GET RID OFF RANDOM EVENTS! NON-MACROERS IN THE FISHING GUILD DONT WANT FUCKING SANDWICHES!!!

Honest to god, its their own asses their covering up with all these updates. No-one has a worse gaming experience because of RWT'ers… mainly because they dont stick out like a sore thumb like some macros do…

They changed the trades because they didnt want these virtual items to become intangible assets (items which you can own, but not touch, like stocks for a company). If rs items had a market value, then they could get sued if items were lost because of them (e.g. when they roll back the servers).

Actually, I agree with him. Not as much his analogy, but more what he's trying say and his solution to it. He's saying that earning those GPs should be more 'fun' instead of boring, repetitive work, like most games are today. Making games more fun and attention grabbing would encourage people to play to get their GPs, and they wouldn't want to buy it since they would miss out on all the fun stuff.
