Wow, OK seems a lot has changed

OK, well as you know i've been away for a while, and i need a slight update lol.

I know about admins, mods revs etc. i need more fine details like:

SMART and UCOS(?).
Hooks and Reflections? How do they work?
Latest scripting techniques?
SSRL are now like mods? (Maybe?)

Anything else?

Thanks a lot, appreciated

SMART v2 has some more options than v1. You are able to draw on a transparent canvas over the client and you have the option to 'read' the client (KYAB-style). This is where hooks and reflection comes in, the hooks are the places in the client where you can find the info. Reflection gets you the info, examples are tilewalking and NPC finding. At least, that's what I think it does, I'm sure someone can give a better explanation.

tUcos, total control over scar, is made by c0de to control your characters through a site. SCAR sends/reads info about players so you can reset them online.

SSRL has the option to infract people, 3 infractions is a temporary ban, 6 a perm.

New scripting techniques are pretty much (arrays of) TPointArrays, WizzyPlugin is used a lot.

Anything else?

New cups.
2 SRL clean-ups.
And probably some more, but it has been a while so I post them when something passes my mind :)

Also, no more SMART source? That was included in the dev rev if i remember correctly.

A lot of things have been changed in SRL, if that's what you mean by new scripting techniques, including RadialWalk now using TPAs, FindTalk now using TPAs, login totally revamped, and solved a couple randoms (I think). There's a few more things that I'm forgetting, but that's a good list.
TPAs are used a lot in scripting now because, well, they're fast, usually very accurate, have very good tutorials to learn from (I think :p), and there are very good functions and procedures to manipulate them.
Don't even know if that's what you were asking, but oh well :p

No more source :(

Aw, thats a shame on the source front. Ah well.

Yup, I'm up-to-date on TPointArrayArray (T2DPointArray now?), was using them a while ago i think.

Why the nick changed to TPA's? Any specific reason?

nielsie95

2008-02-23 09:27:02

FindTalk is 0-16ms with them.

It's extremely fast. Masks just aren't fast at all. (It was using masks last, right?)

Glad you're back!:)

There's something I can add,
Fawki is kinda gone. He is focusing on his work now, he wont have time to check the forums, but he will receive daily information from wizzy, if I understood it good:p

Again, I'm glad, very glad that you're back!

Did RAM beg you to come post :p. Both you and him came back in the same week, even if its only temporary. Anyways, what other people have said sums it up other than the new Admins and Mods and Devs.

no, i haven't talked to anyone in like 6 months.

and i just checked the emails of Starblaster100@gmail.com… 109 new scar related emails… great. It takes me a whole day to get back up to speed lol.

WB Starblaster!

And I don't think anybody mentioned this above, but if you haven't checked out runescape lately, there's a lot of bad updates. We can't drop trade anymore, or trade goods to our mains from our autoers (at least we haven't found a way yet) :( the wilderness was also taken out, the duel arena made non members, there's some new game called bounty hunter to replace the wilderness which I've heard really sucks, and there's something called the grand exchange where you put your items up and you can buy/sell stuff even while you're not online.

I think that's about it for big runescape updates that I know about. Oh yeah, there's a new summoning skill for members too.

Anyways, hope your here to stay! :)

wow, OK now i realize why people say Runescape died on this date. They are quite extreme measures from Jagex to stop RWT

Indeed, a lot of big updates that makes RS cheating less attractive..

Btw, what do you mean with "RWT"?

If you meant what does RWT stand for, it's real world trading.

Hey, Starblaster!
I was afraid something awful happened to you…
As far as I know you left without leaving even the smallest message. :p
It seems like most (if not all) of your questions have already been answered.

Welcome back!

Yea, thats what I get for assuming people still have the decency to respect a closed door ;) I have my reasons for not releasing the source, if you can't see them, I'm fine with that. At least knock before entering, however…

I'm not that good with metaphores, i dont know that well what you mean by "respecting a closed door", and "knock before entering".

I made my feelings about the closed sourcing of it very clear since the start,
I'v told you any ideas i had about it, some predictions on how it worked, my failed attempts to work it out, its obvious to anyone that I would try to do something like this if i could.

you can't expect to have control of a program you've written after you've released it.
speaking of decency, how decent is it to hide the source from us, dont try to make out you're doing us a favour with that, its just patronizing, like
"Here is the program SRL, now dont ask any testing or complicated questions, it doesnt matter how it works as long as it works, dont worry your pretty blue heads about it."
"If you saw the source, your head would explode with its massive complicatedness and incredibleness, no no, the source is much safer for my eyes only"

your reasons, are they this?
Benland says he wont release the source because of the secks way he gave scar control of the jvm
^^ knowledge hoarding
it was in the thread about releasing smart without the frame rate slider (seems the thread was deleted)

or perhaps this less believable one
I dont want anyone to make a toryan and disguise it as smart
I also love the way, in the dev section you make a thread about the source, it has a large "maybe i will, maybe i wont" theme, dangling a carrot, politicians do this a lot. you give the people a bit of hope, then lie low for a while and hope that everyone forgets about the source, but their good opinion of your continues on a subconcious level.

maybe I'm just reading too much into it, maybe just I'm paranoid, maybe

Or maybe you are just being an ass. Check the times, I believe I made that thread before I posted here. Respecting a closed door means not opening a door that is closed because you have enough sense to realize that it is closed for a reason, e.g. trying to get the java source out of SMART when it is clear that I don't want you to. You give me far too much credit, If I ever said (seriously) that the source would "make your eyes explode" I'll eat my shoes. I'm not "hiding" the source from you, I'm just not giving it to you. I have the same reason for keeping SMART closed source as Kaitnieks had for keeping SCAR closed source: he did not want someone putting a virus/trojan in scar, compiling it, and selling it as their own. Don't even tell me it won't happen because people have already tried to sell it and that is one of the main reasons its public now. You call it knowledge hoarding, I call it not giving what I am not required to give. If I had a million dollars, I might invite you to do something with me, but I'm not going to give you a hundred dollars to go have a good time. In my opinion, you would rather me not do anything at all (as I usualy do) than release what I do closed source. You say that my post in the dev section is "dangling a carrot" however I clearly said that I will release it either GNU or Apache if i release it at all, and I want to know your opinions on that. Starblaster himself implied that a full open source release is not such a good idea, you didn't say anything. So, am I "dangling a carrot" or do I really want to know what you all want, since I won't be here?

I guess I understand Yak's concerns about being open source…seems to be the big push these days, but I definitely have to say, Let's not make this any easier for people to exploit it…. People have obbed their scripts for a long time now for various reasons, while people have deobbed these same scripts for various reasons, All of the time, people have put their hard work into a project, a script ,a program or other….As mentioned, the technology is there, you can decompile any program (to an extent) and get the source from it….But we have to ask what the motivations are….I understand for you Yak, that more than likely, it will be used for your own learning purposes , but for the majority of the people that do this, they serve to further their own agendas….whether exploiting the technologies for their own personal gains (selling it, installing a trojan, etc.), or just trying to achieve a higher level of fame while marketing it as their own.

As mentioned, people have badgered Kait and Freddy for the source to SCAR for years now, but the majority of people are ecstatics to be happy that someone has put the time and effort into a program, and are allowing us to use it for free…. I fall into this boat…I am happy Ben has made this and other programs and allows us to use it…

IMHO, It seems very selfish to keep pestering him for the code, he is UNDER NO OBLIGATION to provide us with the program in the first place.

My suggestion would be, if you have some ideas, that you think would benefit the SMART program, or any others for that matter, send the author a private message and express yourself that way, rather than whining in an open forum, even here…from where I'm standing, your approach thus far, has only served to anger people.
