Cannabis, Your vote/ideas

Well i don't know if anybody saw this on the demonoid forum a while back but it was the most interesting conversation i have read for a while. Just take a minute to vote what you think should happen and your arguments about it.
By the way cannabis is weed for all you who are absent to the drug world.

As of my view, I think it should be decriminalized because there a facts showing it is less harmful than most legal drugs today. It is also a hard drug to get addicted to and is less damaging than cigarettes. There have also been studies that proved it does not ALONE cause cancer. Plus its good as shit!!!

It's legal here, no need to legalize it.
Few things, you can only have a few grams, and having the plants is illegal. Buying the drugs isn't, pretty weird laws

gerauchert

decriminalized in the US…

this is based on several of jhildy's points that I agree with. Studies have shown alcohol to be a more deadly and dangerous substance, however it is still legal. Plus even though it is STILL a dangerous substance, teenagers will less likely be using it in the future because they are ALLOWED to have it…it will become less of a big deal to smoke weed.

I for one have never done it, but I do think it would solve many problems if it were to be decriminalized. I DO not think that it should be legalized in the sense that you are allowed to buy it from stores, gas stations ect. That would only enhance the problem.

Thats my stance on the issue anyway ;)

IMO it should be legalized.. Why?

Because it's not harmful as far as I know, except I think it can cause some damage if you do it too young, and even tobacco is more harmful.. I also think people should be allowed to choose if they want to smoke it or not as people can choose not to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes too and as far as I know they're sort of drugs too..

And cannabis being illegal doesn't effect that much as people can still get it from pretty much any big town or city if they really want to, and the fact that it's illegal just makes the price higher as it's harder to get, and it also causes alot of trouble to the country itself as there's loads of people are in jail because of it and it's not free to keep people there.. And after someone is released for let's say dealing drugs there's a quite high risk the person does it again because criminals don't get jobs too easily and money doesn't grow in trees and it may be quite profitable too, atleast more money than you get from some shit job you're actually taken to, specially if the person doesn't have a too great education.. And that just causes a circle of jail => freedom => jail and so on…

In my opinion the netherlands way would be the best ;)

I don't see those people too scary or harmful, more harmful people are the ones that are addicted to the harder drugs that mess up their head so they can go crazy at you or it forces them to steal because they're so addicted to the shit they need to dig the money from wherever they can.. But weed isn't that addictive, I've heard it's about as addictive as tobacco, and you need to smoke tobacco many times every day for a quite long time to actually get addicted to it.. Random smoking won't get you addicted.

The thing about that is, I'm pretty sure it does destroy your braincells.

There was this girl I liked at college, always really chatty and full of life, then she smoked a sh*t load of green in two years and became really slow. She'd speak like 'helllooooo'.

Was ludacris.

I'm pretty sure it does change people, but it's still fun to smoke from time to time.

Mmm.. I read somewhere that if you smoke it when you're under 16 years old or that if your brains haven't developed enough it does some damage to some brain stuff…

E: There's also this one drunk that lives nearby me that's always walking around "talking" to people.. Just like "hey! grrmmffhhhmmmhmmfffflffllllfff…" XD

Sir R. M8gic1an

2008-02-13 09:36:49

weed does burn/kill your brain cells, but people don't really become 'slow' like some of you said. i know a guy who's been smoking up a lot since he was like 15, he isn't slow, but his brain is so fucked he plays football by himself the whole afternoon. if you throw a ball he'll go and get it, running, with a smile on his face 90% of the time.

and high people are pretty harmless. like sporky said a group of stoned people will eat your whole fridge, no doubt of that, but they would barely ever lift a finger to hit you. even if they tried they'd burst out laughtin.

I think that all brain altering substances should be illegal.

People get so screwed up with all the pills and uppers and downers and sleep aids and crap, and that's just with the legal ones. We don't need more legalized, we need more restricted.

You put a kid on Ritalin when they're 5, then they're trying weed and cigarettes and alcohol when they're 12, then they're on Prozac and anti-depressants when they're in college, then they're on Ambien for the rest of their life trying to get normal.

Screw that. Leave your head alone and be normal.

I will tell you guys something funny.
Here, in The Netherlands, using cannabis is tolerated.
The actual percent of people using cannabis in the United States is alot higher than the cannabis usage in The Netherlands.
Doing 'illegal' stuff is just cool, every teenager boy wants to be illegal and some sort of rebel. Most of the people that live in The Netherlands (or at least here, in Amsterdam :p ) are familiar with weed. Mainly because it is legal, and it the actual 'woot im so cool i'm doing something illegal' -kick is absent.

Yeah, smoking cigars and cigarettes used to be a status symbol. Then it was kind of cool and counter-culture. Now it's pretty well shunned by everyone as unhealthy, expensive, and kind of pointless.

You have to remember that there are wildly different demographics in the Netherlands than there are in the US, so a direct comparison isn't very valid. for example, the US has a younger population than the Netherlands, and marijuana use is much higher in young people. We also have a larger black population, and they use marijuana at a much higher rate as well.

once again you may think your addicted but if you really have no reason to stop then why do it?

Again i have only been toking up since april last year and i guarentee you i could stop 100% but i have yet to notice any hold backs from it. I play sports and my lungs are fine. I get very good grades in school. I am still active and not a burnout.

You just proved yourself wrong, and that it would be mainly positive to leaglize it:

1.
trust me, I've smoked more than i can afford ;)
Leaglizing would lower the prices of weed down to like cigarettes/probably a small amount higher (being taxed & all also).

2.
not worth gettin arrested, and def not worth losin your memory...
If it was legal you wouldn't be getting arrested. 2nd- Don't smoke so much, only different w/ cigaretts is you'd probably only lose an amount that would affect you if you like chain smoked/smoked a lot every day

3.
Skateboardin is better anywayz! (sk8in for 12 years and counting! :p)
A LOT of skateboarders smoke. 75% of the people who skate in my town/ the last town I lived in & skated (fairly large amount) smoked either/or cigarettes & weed. & my bro skates so I know a lot of his friends who smoke.

Pwnt. Netherlands way sounds best.

There was another school shooting here in the US. Normal kid. Great student. Won awards and stuff in college. Then he 'went off his meds' for two weeks and started behaving very erratically. Then we walks on campus with a gun and kills 11 people before killing himself.

Screwing with your head is stupid. They haven't released what 'meds' he was on, but I still think people need to think before taking ANY drug that will alter your mental perceptions of reality. I know too many people that started taking this or that to feel better about themselves or help with depression or help them sleep, and then they end up utterly dependent on all their psycho-active drugs just to try to stay normal.

Look at Brian Wilson. He was a musical genius. He wrote all the famous Beach Boys songs. Then he got depressed and some quack put him on powerful psychotropic drugs to treat it. Now he's practically a vegetable.

these drugs control you cannabis does not pyschoactive drugs do and thats why they are illegal they are hallucageans(sp) see and taking pills or shrooms is a lot easier than shitting it a bucket letting it ferment then huffing the fumes. personally that is disgusting but thats not illegal dont ask me why i brought this up i felt like saying that

Its interesting how the US doesn't legalize it. Its like they are against another substance that is smoked yet… cigarettes and other "herbal leafs" are legal. There is in fact legal herbs that do the exact same thing as what weed does to you. Its almost as if the US makes more money keeping it illegal then what they would if it was legal. Still makes me wonder.

Legalize it… I have personally done 3 research reports and 2 speeches on why marijuana should be legalized in the US. I've read a lot of interesting posts so far…not all…but most.
I'm going to go with decriminalization.

Some things I saw in other post and felt I needed to comment:

ODing on marijuana can happen. One night I smoked so much that when I sat down I passed out within about a minute. To me, I ODed. Other nights when I didn't smoke that much I was pretty much alright…besides the fact that I was flyin high ;). Mind you, this was all from the same 1/8 I bought, so there was no variation…and I'm 99% sure that it wasn't laced with anything.

Marijuana is not as addicting as people think. It is the high that people are addicted to, not the drug itself (in marijuana's case…other drugs, like cocaine and meth and such, cause you to become addicted to the drug). For me, I smoked weed for about 3 months…then one night I was really freakin high and I just felt like I didn't want to do it anymore. So I stopped. Been clean since…which is about 2 months.

The laws are passed by adults. Most adults don't smoke pot. Many adults DID smoke pot at some time in the past, but now choose not to. Thus, I believe that making the drug illegal is the way adults try to keep kids from making the same stupid mistakes they did.

So, inasmuch as keeping it illegals stops young people from making stupid mistakes, it's probably a good thing and should remain in place.

I wonder how many of your parents used Marijuana when they were young and stupid. If they did, do you think they would tell you?

Oh hellz yes dude! I play lax too! What position do you play??

[ontopic] I think the main reason kids smoke pot in the US is BECAUSE it is illegal…being rebellious is part of being a teen, and its fun.

I myself have been around alcohol my whole life, because my parents raised me that way. Alcohol has never been a big deal to me because of it. They dont care if I drink as long as I am safe and dont drive. So drinking isnt a big deal to me and therefore I dont do it that often.

I myself have been around alcohol my whole life, because my parents raised me that way. Alcohol has never been a big deal to me because of it. They dont care if I drink as long as I am safe and dont drive. So drinking isnt a big deal to me and therefore I dont do it that often.

I imagine that pot would be the same way if it were to be decriminalized/legalized.

The few months-year after it became legalized there would be an immense boom of potheads b/c every1 could get it & it would become a popular trend for maybe a yr max :) then it would start to die down.

&: Some1 go against legalizing, this debate is pretty one-sided atm.

I still think it should stay illegal… Just because you want to smoke care free isn't a good reason to legalize it… And the only reason they cant make cigs or alcohol illegal is because alcohol actually had useful purposes way back when, and no one knew cigs were bad back in the day.. now the tobacco and alcohol industries are way too big to just get rid of all of the sudden.. but they're trying… they raise the ages that you can buy em, public drunkeness is illegal, and now they're startin to ban smokin in public places.. I dont really feel like debating, 1 cuz im lazy and hate typing… an 2 cuz I hate debating with people about this… but anywayz, even if they did make bud legal in the states, they would tax the hell out of it.. (spec in NY, NJ area.. cigs are over $6!!) also it would prolly be dirt too… say goodbye to that cally green…

Also if it was legalized, sales/usage of coke, heron, and other hard drugs would go up… drug dealers cant make money with somethin thats legal ;)

i agree i am completely against legalizing it. Decriminalizing it is the best idea to me because for one, the weed would probably suck and they would probably put all kinds of chemicals in it. I also agree that the reason its illegal is it is so easy to grow that it would be impossible to control.

ok, basicaly, i kno sum 1 that jas smoked weed everyday for the past lyk 5-8 months, she has bad memory but thats about it

weed will neva be legalised coz the government cant put tax on it.

i think it should be lgalised tho :)

There is nothing bad about legalizing.. You are not FORCED to use it, just when you want to use it.. People should have there own responsibilities. When you make weed legal, like here, its a "normal" thing.. People don't go in the secret exporting weed. Thats the same what happened here (NL). They made it legal because it would mean there isn't any secret, illegal circuit going on with lots of people getting in trouble, getting into the "dark side" for just a joint..

Besides, even if it kills your brains, who cares? Your not going to be like a junky..

ben600006

if it was legal, it would be seen just the same as smoking, the people that wanted to do it would and the people worried about the health factors or just ppl that dont want to do it wouldnt

lolololol never believe government studies on marijuana. on the wars on marijuana in the 30's or whatever they were called, they did tests on monkeys. Gave them more marijuana smoke then you could smoke in your life time. The main director of the experiment even discredited all of his studies, a few years later.

All I got to say is that it should be legalized , if Alcohol(licor) and Cigarrettes are legal , why not the weed"? the weed hasn't killed anybody , while the legal stuff has been killing people with cancer, and many other sickness, so why are 2 of the most mortal addictions legal and the harmless one illegal? its very stupid…because weed is totally natural , I just support weed , no other drugs tho, since weed is natural , other ones are processed and not natural at all…but anyways.

If you smoke, why kill your lungs if you just got 2?? kill your neurons you got millions of them!!! :p

Ah, if you wanna fuck your brain up thats fine by me.

But if it gets legalized more people sell it, more people smoke it, more kids think its acceptable to smoke it, more kids smoke it, more kida get fucked up, they sell it when there older.. can you see where this is going?

Keep it legalized. It isnt a fucking herb, its a drug. Herbs dont fuck your brain up. Ever seen someone smoking basil and get high as? Noo. I doubt it, drugs are substances that have an effect on the body.

Cannabis does.

Keep it illegal. That way, less people think its acceptable but if you do wanna do it, whatever. I dont care. Fully illegal for me.

why is drinking socially acceptable, and smoking pot is not? pot can be used for a wide range of medical purposes. it can be used to help chemo therapy SAYS THE GOVERNMENT. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Support/marijuana

The lead director in " the war against marijuana in the 1930's discredited his studies a few years later. he gave those monkeys more marijuana smoke then one person can consume in a lifetime. If you wanted to overdose on marijuana it would take something like 600 spliffs. you would quickly pas out way before that.its not as bad as you think. dont listen to everything you hear in school.

And Drinking is socially acceptabel because the government can tax it, they cant tax pot, because it isnt sold in stores, its sold on the streets.

ill bet your friends done more then pot. Ive seen people smoke pot in moderation my whole life, and they are some of the smartest people i know. If you dont think it should be leagalised, i dont think theres any good argument about decriminalizing it, and make it medically legal. People shouldnt have to go to jail with the killers for doing things like growing pot. especially in small amounts.

Yeah, I suppose that people overreact about it, but a Drug is a Drug really.

You could Decrimanalise it, but keep it illegal?

"Make it Medical" - People could easily "Act" ill to get their medical dose of pot.

decriminalize as in not give me 10 years for getting caught with a joint. Yes its a drug, but so arent all prescriptions? marijuana is just as bad for your lungs as smoking 5 cigs is. but, i do think the alot of people need it at the very elast medically and are being denied. People fake their way to get prescription drugs too. do we make all those illegal?

Possible medical uses

Scientists studying marijuana's potential medical uses have found that it may help treat a variety of conditions.

Nausea
One of THC's medical uses best supported by research is the treatment of nausea. It can improve mild to moderate nausea caused by cancer chemotherapy and help reduce nausea and weight loss in people with AIDS.

Younger people may find marijuana more useful as a treatment for nausea than do older people — who may not tolerate its mind-altering side effects as well. The prescription form, dronabinol, also may produce psychological side effects that make it inappropriate for some older people. Doctors generally prescribe several kinds of newer anti-nausea drugs with fewer side effects before resorting to dronabinol.

Glaucoma
This disease — the third-leading cause of blindness in the United States — is marked by increased pressure in the eyeball, which can lead to vision loss.

In the early 1970s, scientists discovered that smoking marijuana reduced pressure in the eyes. Exactly how the cannabinoids in marijuana produce this effect isn't known. Scientists have discovered CB1 receptors in the eyes, which may provide clues for future research on how marijuana affects glaucoma.

Your doctor can prescribe other medications to treat glaucoma, but these can lose their effectiveness over time. Researchers are working to develop medications containing cannabinoids that can be put directly on the eyes — to avoid the mind-altering side effects and other health consequences of smoking the plant.

Pain
People widely used marijuana for pain relief in the 1800s, and several studies have found that cannabinoids have analgesic effects. In fact, THC may work as well in treating cancer pain as codeine, a mild pain reliever. Cannabinoids also appear to enhance the effects of opiate pain medications to provide pain relief at lower dosages.

Researchers currently are developing new medications based on cannabis to treat pain.

Multiple sclerosis
Research results on the effectiveness of cannabinoids in the treatment of the tremors, muscle spasms and pain of multiple sclerosis (MS) — a disease of the nervous system that can cause muscle pain — are mixed. A 2003 study found that cannabinoids significantly reduced pain in people with multiple sclerosis.

Some scientists feel that more research may show cannabinoids useful in treating MS. Marijuana may protect nerves from the kind of damage that occurs during the disease. They also suggest that animal study results, knowledge of CB1 receptors in the brain and users' reports of decreased symptoms after using marijuana support this possibility. However, others advise caution in using marijuana to treat MS, given the modest therapeutic effects cannabinoids have demonstrated so far and the potential of long-term adverse side effects.

Alright I didnt take the time to read most of te post in thsi thread but Ive smoked a butt load of weed in my life done a bunch of hard drugs and have done some weed that should be considered a hard drug and illegal.

Weed alone like what was said on the first post does not cause cancer and and of all the studies that have been done there are two way different conclusions
1. Being that marijuana causes cancer and this is what all anti-drug commercials and the gov't show you. Why? Because this test is fact marijuana can cause cancer. But, what they dont tell you is that all the test subject and all the reviews made and everything the most widely used smoking apparatus is rolling papers. that my friend is what has over 400 carcinogens in it not the weed. They cant get in trouble for not mentioning it either unless asked about what the weed was used to smoke out of. They jsut forget to mention that on tv the web and at school.

2. Weed does not cause cancer. This test also true but in this test they factored in the rolling papers (joints and blunts) and also factored in the butane from the lighter you use to smoke with (average BIC) the safest way to smoke weed is through a water bong. The water acts as a filtering device but not only does it filter out the carcinogens and the aprts of the smoke that dont get you and buzz at all it also filters out the THC the active drug in weed that gets you high. So you must smoke more of it pretty simple and bongs get you messed up anyways so its all good :). The other safe way to smoke weed is through a pipe but not jsut any pipe we'll go from safest to not so safest 1. water pipe (bubblers) 2. steel pipes 3. chillums and one hitters 4. copper pipes ( not such a good idea to smoke out of right after it has been made cause the burner copper does something and also has been linked to cancer causing 5. Aluminum - these are the worst things you could ever smoke out of worse than papers or blunt worst then smoking a pack of smokes in a couple hours. Aluminum Oxide ( if im not mistaken ) is a bi-product of burning aluminum which has been linked and proven to cause Alzheimers (sp? when old people forget stuff alot) and has been linked to cancer as well pluss its really un healthy for your throat and esophagus.

I am totally for legalizing it with restrictions on the THC level cause as most of my fellow stoners out there or soon to be stoners will tell you there is some pretty fricken crazy bud out there and some of its like taking an oxy 80 if anyone ahs every had those if not quick effect your pretty much immobilized and theres some bud out there tahts better than that and some of its laced wich you gotta be careful about. and some is genetically engineered to be fricken amazing. but this all for another discussion where I can if you guys want tell about as much pot ( different types) as I know and with the help of people on here you could probley get a nice information log, for a health projects for school or something, going on.

The reason pot wont be legalized if ever at least not in my life time ( I sure as hell hope Im wrong but I dont think I am ) If the gov't legalized weed and made its supre unhealthy cousin cigarettes Illegal the gov't would loose billions of dolloars. Not because people wouldnt smoke pot, but because people are smart, marijuana is a weed thats why they call it that. It can grow anywhere and anybody can grow it ( the potency is all up to the grower and if he knows what hes doing or not [and the type of plant it is]) So people would by some from a liquor store ( most likely ahve to be a certain age to buy) probley buy it in a pack joints(cancer causing…. I think America is out to kill us all) break these open and chances are youll find a seed plant it walla you have a plant and you jsut saved yourself from buying a a pack of taxed smokes form the gov't so the gov't looses but loads of money and thats what the gov't wants out of you is money they dont really care about you. or if you ahev some seeds saved over from the illegal times you dont even have to buy that first pack. But that IMO is the reason weed will never be legalized at least for a long long time. until we find something to replace cigs and be able to tax the hell outa that

I watched this programme on C4 the other day, and completley changed my outlook on Cannabis. In the Netherlands people know what they are smoking, so they wont get fucked up by it, because they know what it is.

But like, in the UK, its not actually Cannabis, its Skunk, which is harder. And the British growers put little glass beads in the cannabis to make it look stronger under a microscope, which red hot glass in your lungs does some damage.

I say Legalize it now, but keep it confined to resturants and not in public like in the Netherlands.

Those people who put that glass in the weed and (in America) put bleech on it to make it brighter and more colorful are what the media focuses on whenthey want to spread the word about weed being bad. We have skunk here in america as well its in the catogory above mids but not yet dro and nowhere close to hash. but I liek the idea about being legal inside pretty much smoke shops

oliver1205

2008-04-05 15:19:08

if it was leagalised we wouldnt have to worry about glass and bleach being in our weed…

the only way to prevent it is growing yourself, witch will get you a longer jail term.
